Love this guy! Kind of reminds me of myself during the RR & Hole years, however I never put a camera in front of my face for the whole world to see!

Hole years is a pretty apt typo.

Actually, he took the loss pretty well...surprisingly
September 1st, 2023 at 12:46 AM ^
He had some good points, 1st year coach vs 7th year coach. To be honest I haven’t seen Nebraska’s D play with that much heart sink Bo was there. Four turnovers and you lose by a field goal. However on that flip side, it’s Minnesota, I think Minnesota will struggle to score on a lot of teams this year due to the QB and O-Lone.
September 1st, 2023 at 7:59 AM ^
The O-Line clearly misses Chuck Filiaga.
September 1st, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
I was disappointed we did get (or cooled on) Chuck Filiaga. He had a fantastic story and turned out to be pretty darn good.
September 1st, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
You tryin to bait me into this? I am tempted, I must say...
September 1st, 2023 at 11:16 AM ^
He was good, but he was stuck behind two monsters in Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter. He was never going to get the playing time he needed. It's for the best he got his opportunity elsewhere. Not fair to keep a guy like that on the team when he's got no chance of playing.
September 1st, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
Regarding how Minnesota looks in year 7 under Fleck...I believe Minnesota had a lot of turnover from last season through graduation. Minnesota will probably never be a program like Michigan (so happy I can place them in this category again), OSU, Alabama, Georgia, etc. They will not have 4 and 5 stars three deep at every position just waiting to get on the field. They will not have the best player from another power 5 program as a backup.
Unless you have a lot of guys returning who are experienced, you don't know for sure what you have in the first game of the season so they are often fairly ugly games, especially on offense. This is how it is for most teams in college football.
We'll know more about Minnesota after they play their cream puff games to rep things with their O-line. If the O-line struggles in those game, it will be a long season for them.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:07 AM ^
He's got that half-resigned, half-comical disposition that I had when Threet and Sheridan were running an offense designed for anyone but Threet and Sheridan.
September 1st, 2023 at 7:16 AM ^
Too soon. That issue remains a huge sore spot - RR promised that he'd morph his offense to the players he had. Lying summbitch...

the most nebraska way to lose
September 1st, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
Is there any other way for them to lose anymore?
September 1st, 2023 at 12:49 AM ^
All-in-all, a very reasoned take.
I think Husker fans are generally a good bunch of folks, this guy included, and probably would be a fun thing to sit down and have a beer with the majority of them.

This was my experience in Lincoln for an away game. Encountered one asshole and everyone else was very cool and welcoming

Same. One absolute dick who blamed me for getting poked in the eye… by him.
Everyone else was hospitable.
September 1st, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
Same here, except the one asshole was me. Let me explain. I went with a buddy to a game at Lincoln when Nebraska was hosting MSU. My buddy went to State. I had no rooting interest, just went for the experience. Nebraska fans were one of the nicest I ever encountered. At some point my buddy goes to the bathroom. A while later I spot him a ways down the aisle coming back to our seats. He's the only one wearing green in a sea of red. So naturally I start to heckle him. Really letting him have it trying to get the crowd to join along: "You suck, MSU sucks, your mom sucks! Sit down, asshole! Boo!" Not a peep from anyone. The Nebraska fans who weren't aware we were buddies, and even some who were, were aghast--shocked and embarrassed that a visiting guest would be treated so poorly in their stadium. Eventually, my buddy came back and handed me a drink he got for me. Nice guy.

Cool story, bro'.
September 1st, 2023 at 5:57 AM ^
I went to game there back in college. Stoned road trip. They were actually one of the most un OSU fan bases ever. We wore Michigan gear to their stadium back in the 90s and were treated well, which was unexpected.

Who was Nebraska playing in the game you attended there? Michigan didn't play Nebraska in the '90s.
September 2nd, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
He said that he was stoned. I wonder what stadium he was actually in. I'd assume one whose home colors included red.
September 1st, 2023 at 7:21 AM ^
I've had a beer with lots of them while on work trips to Omaha many times. They are genuinely nice people and always willing to talk football and baseball (CWS), and will do so congenially and objectively.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
My brother and I went to the 1st game Nebraska played at the big house as a B1G member. Michigan won big. After the game my brother and I sat around with a group of Nebraska fans and drank beer until they kicked us off the golf course. Extremely nice and cordial group of individuals

Naw, man, this guy is Johnny Winter's Nebraska cousin, he should keep the hair. He's also a good dude. We can relate to him if you were around from 2008-14.

Nebraska is still dangerous team.
Mostly dangerous to themselves.
But they also have a huge happy-mean DL named Huttmacher wearing a donut for a jersey number. He almost destroyed the Gopher QB's knee on one play.
I don't want any Cornshuckers making a hat out of Michigan's QB or RBs this year.
September 1st, 2023 at 5:58 AM ^
Their best player is roaming our sidelines now.
September 1st, 2023 at 6:34 AM ^
It was Nebraska that injured Denard's elbow.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:03 AM ^
Both teams looked awful. If that's who Minnesota and Nebraska are going to be, it's really hard to find a competitive game in Michigan's schedule before week 10.
There most likely isn't a team in the West to "fear", but even the "they could be solid" B1G West teams aren't on Michigan's schedule this year (Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois).
September 1st, 2023 at 9:33 AM ^
My take on that game is was underwhelming on offense for both teams. If they keep doing run option plays for the NE QB, Sims, he won't last long. The MN offense is really missing Tanner Morgan at QB and Ibriham (Sp) at RB.
We'll see well IA, Wisc and IL will do. Cade will be the key for the Hawkeyes and can IL repeat what they did last season.

Matt Rhule will need some time to wash the Scott Frost stank off this team. Check in with them mid-season.

A lot of "stank" remaining, almost a year after Frostie melted away:

I like how angry he got about the Minnesota fan turning around and saying thanks for coming. Midwest at its finest.
September 1st, 2023 at 7:19 AM ^
Born in Nebraska, grade school in Missouri, high school in Michigan, I STILL wonder where the Midwest is. Many folks in the East consider Michigan to be the Midwest, while many folks further west (in NE & MO & KS & SD) consider MI to be the East.
Anyway, wherever I am on the geographical spectrum, I know I've felt the same as Corn-Silk Head (thanks, Blue Balls Afire, above). Angry about a tough loss, I think ANYTHING any opposing fan says is snark.
Aggressive, passive-aggressive, agressive-passive, passive: whatever an opposing fan says doesn't matter, it pisses me off more after a loss. Other than that, I'm a sweetheart of a guy.

Champions of the West. It wasn't THAT long ago that California was San Francisco and a bunch of citrus groves and, except for those Chicago ruffians, the majority of the U.S. population was clustered in the Atlantic cities a la the New Yorker cartoon.
To your point, "Midwest" should really be broken down into Great Lakes, Central Plains, maybe Central Mississippi Region because they're all distinct geographically etc. However, my friends at Michigan from New York would often remark on how nice and polite Michigan people are, so maybe that is a shared trait.
