I am concerned about this. If it's true that Weis needed a BCS appearance to keep his job (which may not be), then this just got a lot tougher. The fat man's gotta stick around.

They can point to "only" having future NFL players at QB, TE, and one WR. Of course Charlie needs two for his "advantage" to work when he faces those tasty cupcakes on his schedule.
I hope he can stick it out. I'd hate to see Brian Kelly at ND.

that his injury (which is unfortunate) happened while playing those "gritty" Spartans, and not those "dirty" Wolverines.
The MSM would probably love to spin it against RR and Michigan somehow.

Man, that's disappointing and you hate to see that kind of talent wasted. Nobody should ever want to see a player (especially of his caliber) get injured and be forced to watch on the sidelines for 3/4 the season. Granted, we all hate ND, but it's still unfortunate for them. Hopefully they have the depth to replace him and finish the season strong so that our win over them doesn't seem useless.

Obviously, this isn't good for ND's chances down the road, but it makes me quake a little bit too. Had Floyd kept up the ridiculous pace he was on he probably would've finished the year as one of, if not the best, receivers in the country. Had this happened I would have been stunned had he not sauntered off to the NFL. Now, though, he almost has to come back, which means we have to play him again. Thus, ugh.

I would never want to see a player injured, but I personally want to see ND have a terrible rest of the season because I hate them very much.
Granted, if ND does well, it makes Michigan's win "look" better. But what does that really mean? A higher ranking in the polls? National respect? Bottom line is that the number of our conference wins plus the NUMBER of our non-conference wins is what is going to determine what/if any bowl we are in and the amount of respect we will get this year.
The only other argument in favor of ND doing well is that we want Weis to stay around. Although I do not totally disagree with this, I have to wonder who they would get right now that would be that much better? Urban Meyer...doubtful. John Gruden...please let that happen! I guess I want Weis to stay around too, but not if it means rooting for ND to make a BSC bowl every year. Keep in mind that if ND makes a BCS bowl it could potentially take a spot away from another at-large team (maybe us at one point).
Personally, I want to see ND do horribly. I do not want them in a BCS bowl. I was hoping they would lose yeasterday. I repeat that I WOULD NEVER WISH FOR FLOYD TO BE HURT, but it makes ND a lot worse so I am a little happy about that.

There is a non-trivial chance that if ND fires Weis this year, Brian Kelly will be their next coach. Kelly won multiple D-II national championships at GVSU, won the MAC at CMU and is 25-6 in 2+ years at Cincinnati. I want no part of him in South Bend. He may be another Urban Meyer.
We dodged a bullet when MSU hired Dantonio (who went 18-17 at Cincy, incidentally) instead of Kelly. I don't want to have to worry about the prospect of Kelly at a rival again.

We have to play ND every year for another 20 years. You don't want them to be great again? You don't want the rivalry to be great again? I just don't get this point of view. Everyone bitches and moans that M never plays a home and home with anyone worth a shit. Well, ND is our home and home, at least for the next 20 years. They get top notch talent every year, but their coaching has held them back for the last decade or so. All they need is a good coach and they should be a top 25 team every year. M v ND was one of the great rivalries in college football and a huge game every year because both teams were consistently great. That's what I want, even if it means we have to face a tough competition.

I'm not joking at all. I wouldn't want to face Urban Meyer every year and I wouldn't want to face Kelly at ND every year, either. I'm not down with the whole "you have to beat the best to be the best" reasoning. I've got no problem playing a good-but-not-great ND.

Spare me the internet tough-guy crap. I want a schedule that makes sense given BCS considerations. I don't want to go through another stretch like 1987-94, when we went eight consecutive years without making it through our OOC schedule unscathed. (And we won five Big Ten titles over that time; it's not like we weren't good enough.)
I'm fine with playing UConn.

My viewpoint: M plays 12 to 13 games a year. All year long I follow this team for 12 or 13 days. I want all 12 or 13 of those games to be great. I hate blowouts and "lesser" opponents. I follow this team for days like 9/13/09. And as M gets better, I hope their opponents get better, so every game is a great game. That's all.

Sparty to win. I just can't root for ND no matter what. I don't want to see Floyd get hurt, but I also don't want to hear the "Jimmah for Heisman" talk either.
No BCS for ND and no Heisman for Clausen.
I hope USC gets it together before they come to South Bend.
Pitt will be tough for ND as well.

USC, Pitt and Washington will give ND all they can eat...er, handle. If they get really banged up (going deep a lot will get your QB hit a lot and your receivers run out), Stanford might be able to snip them at the end of the season, but that remains to be seen.

My favorite comment from Weis in this article is:
"Floyd might be available for a bowl game "if we chose to go in that direction," Weis said."
Now he's probably talking about playing Floyd, but any chance he is somehow talking about a bowl game and that his astounding level of genius will find a way to make it more prestigious to not go to a bowl game?

Besides college football losing one of it's best receivers, people are deluding themselves if they think this doesn't diminish Michigan's win against them. They are a different team with Floyd. That's a solid O-line and it's difficult to pressure Clausen with Floyd and Tate on the field at the same time.
Teams from here on out aren't playing anything near the offensive machine that Michigan faced and the comparisons (which are a large part of the polls) WILL be there. With Floyd, ND loses maybe once more this year to USC and it's not like USC hasn't proven they're human. Without Floyd, ND looked pretty average against Sparty and Clausen can now be pressured much more easily by Purdue, Washington, Pittsburgh and Stanford.
In summary, the loss of Floyd potentially diminishes our win from one over a 11-1 top 5 team to a 9-3 top 25 team.
By the way, I wonder how much slack the same people that actually WANT Brian Kelly at ND are cutting for Rodriguez? Michigan already has everyone perennially gunning for them plus Penn State and OSU on their schedule. It took a late game drive to beat ND with Weis at the helm. Why do we "need" ND to have Brian Kelly there? Personally, I'm content to let Weis handicap ND a few more years while Coach Rod rebuilds our program.
