NCAA Tournament - Trimming Down The Elite Eight - Sunday Edition

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

With half the Final Four field now set, we have two more games to get through yet -

Going now on TBS, Virginia and Syracuse are going at it - the Cavaliers are up 11-8 with about 11:30 to go in the first half.

Later on TBS - approximately 8:49 PM unless something happens in the current game, you'll get Notre Dame and North Carolina.

Virginia is for apathy. At least that's what the basketball team seemed to think as they played lazy and uninterested as their lead slowly melted away into a deficit. I've never seen such uninspired play in a close tourney game before. Some teams just don't deserve to win.

absolutely brilliant way to protect a huge lead by having your 2nd best defensive player in Shayok anchored to the bench.

That was coaching malpractice.

And yes, exactly, it wasn't Sparty, it's UVA - massive fucking chokers.

I don't even care about them one way or the other and I'm fucking enraged by that crap.

Just disgraceful.

for being a comatose muppet while that all was going on.

Shayok should transfer after that nonsense - would love to have him here!

Well, they kinda were garbage.  Syracuse had a joke of a bracket and only needed to pull off one upset to make the Final Four, which they did with enormous help.  I expect them to get clobbered by UNC.

A 10 seed winning its region is only more evidence that the NCAA Tournament, though exciting, is a terrible way to pick a national champion.

I think his point is not the drama of the tournament itself but that the concept of a single elimination tournament is inherently flawed because the best team can have one bad game and be eliminated despite far more evidence that they were indeed one of the best 4, 8, etc.

It's not quite hockey plinko, but there's a reason the pros have 7 game series.

But they played under the same format as everyone else...can't fault them for persevering through that and finding ways to win every game. If UNC wins it all this year, would the format be more truthful since they are probably the best and most talented team this year?

There's a reason Hollis wanted MSU to be in Virginia's bracket. They remind me of some of those earlier Wisconsin teams that won with Bennett/bo Ryan's "system" ironically with Bennett's kid and lose to teams who turn their athletes loose on them
