National Championship Game Open Thread
Well, it'll probably be a short thread, since everyone has already said they're not watching tonight. But for those that are, it's the end of college football on the field for awhile. Gameday on. Pregame in about half an hour. It'll keep us busy till the Two and a Half Men Open thread starts later tonight.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
Even though I said I might watch some of this game, I can't help but wonder if the "Antiques Roadshow Open Thread" for the PBS nuts like myself wouldn't get quite a bit more action.
No, I will tune in for a while anyway, I bet - I admit to that. It's football. I'll discover the value of the old stuff in my house tomorrow.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:36 PM ^
GOD THIS GAME SUCKS.
January 9th, 2012 at 11:35 PM ^
most unentertained game ever! but on the other side, Michigan scores, they're better than LSU.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:42 PM ^
MING DYNSATY!?!?! Unfucking believable. That grandma had no idea what she had, I could have sworn that vase was a low 3 star pick up for sure. Damn rivals south american bias.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:23 PM ^
I'll watch it, but it is going to be an SEC slurp fest like you've never heard. I know we lost to USC and Ohio lost to Florida, but at that time we were the number 1 and number 2 teams in America, so I don't get the whole rematch thing now when we didn't have one in 2006.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:24 PM ^
That's today?
January 9th, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
i thought Allstate Suger bowl = Allstate national championship
January 9th, 2012 at 7:24 PM ^
Erin Andrews said that the average ticket price is $1,800. That is absurd. How do people evern afford to attend these games?
January 9th, 2012 at 7:29 PM ^
That's actually pretty cheap. If I remember correctly during the first matchup there were students able to turn their $10 dollar ticket into $10,000+ because of the ridiculous demand.

Granted that was for certain tickets but still I think the average was pretty high too.

is how she hooked up with Aaron Rodgers, Bret Bielema, and those eyes she was giving Brady Hoke after the UTL win.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:41 PM ^
Erin Andrews: I love Brady Hoke.

January 9th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
huh? Where did this one come from?
January 9th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
Wha? When? How have I never heard this before if it happened?
January 9th, 2012 at 8:15 PM ^
That's the average scalper price. The fans probably paid X+~120 where X=Mandatory Donation for the priviledge of clicking on the buy ticket link.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:24 PM ^
- It's the last college football game for about 8 months
- It's a game between two amazing teams
- Both teams will be putting the most effort possible into this game
- Me not watching will prove absolutely nothing and make absolutely no difference
- It's the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
So yes, I'm watching.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:59 PM ^
It is still Mythical National Championship.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:25 PM ^
I'd be willing to bet at least half the people who said they aren't watching that game tonight will have it on. They're probably putting together the nachos right now.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
January 9th, 2012 at 7:31 PM ^
I will watch it for 3 reasons:

Last college football game for a while.

I hate Saban and want him to be crushed.

I love good defenses and good defensive battles.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:15 PM ^
Not to detract from their accomplishments because I think both defenses are good but there's something to be said for the lack of offensive ability by either team. Most SEC offenses aren't that good either. Some people last time saw a "defensive battle". Alabama can't move the ball through a wet paper bag. AJ McCarron is awful. You stop Richardson, you stop them.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:21 PM ^
They're #12 and #17 respectively in scoring offense. Obviously some of that ranking is because they're allowing about 20ppg between them, but that's not exactly bad.
The SEC teams are really good, whether you like it or not. There's a reason they have a really strong showing every bowl season, regardless of why you think they are good.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:38 PM ^
I generally agree about defensive battles, but this is crazy. It's not even close to entertaining when neither team can BEGIN to move the ball.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:32 PM ^
ended Tuesday as far as I'm concerned
January 9th, 2012 at 7:34 PM ^
Sure it will be an SEC slurpfest... Howeva
We have relevant interest here:
1 - A Michigan Man coaching
2 - Scouting an opponent for next year
January 9th, 2012 at 7:37 PM ^
January 9th, 2012 at 7:38 PM ^
I want every Bama player with NFL aspiration to be satisfied with there college careers and move along.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:40 PM ^
If the game is still on around 11 when I'm done playing, I might watch some of it. I hate both teams just as much as I hate Ohio and shitty coffee.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:40 PM ^
Why are people not watching? Just because your team's not in it or what? It's the national championship between two very good teams, I see no reason why a real football fan wouldn't want to watch this game.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:46 PM ^
but it just doesn't interest me. No interest in watching a rematch. And it's not really a national championship. It's the BCS championship, which means it was decided using politics and opinion. Irritates me to even think about watching it.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:11 PM ^
If it really didn't interest you, why are you here?
January 9th, 2012 at 7:47 PM ^
I'll be watching the shit out of this game.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:35 PM ^
With any luck, there won't be any shit left for me to watch out of it
January 9th, 2012 at 8:47 PM ^
January 9th, 2012 at 10:29 PM ^
I dislike both teams. I dislike the reason for this game. I dislike the BCS.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
Geaux Tigers.
Rooting for the Mad Hatter and his Michigan roots. Also, hoping to see Saban's robot-like visage crumble when Les beats him yet again.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:48 PM ^
Go Les beat Satan.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
I said I wouldn't watch it, but I think my love of college football will overtake my hate of the SEC slurpfest by ESPN. I won't get any more college football until the end of August so I need my fix.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:51 PM ^
Watching for three reasons:
1) Girlfriend went to Alabama
2) Live and teach in New Orleans
3) FOOOOTBAAALLLL
January 9th, 2012 at 8:01 PM ^
I think you mean FOOOOOTBAAAWWWWW.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:51 PM ^
I'm watching it because it is the last college football game of the year, but most importantly i hope that this game is a pathetic as it was the first time they played(link). The stats don't lie.
Keep in mind the team that wins this game will probably have to win it the way Michigan did against VT.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
I'm rooting for the offenses....
January 9th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
I'm rooting for the kickers!
On a side note, how many times do you think we will here"honey badger" tonight?
I say 157 times. Who's got an over/under?
January 9th, 2012 at 8:01 PM ^
the line is 157: please bet over or under.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
Under
January 9th, 2012 at 8:07 PM ^
I will start counting once the pregame show ends and brent/kirk take it for action. This also includes the post game show.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
Is a cure for narcolepsy.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
To root against Satan anytime you can. Go Les.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:01 PM ^
why the BCS championship is on a Monday. Do they not want people to watch? Maybe keep ticket prices gone? At least it connects to a weekend, but seriously, Tuesday is probably the only worse day
January 9th, 2012 at 8:04 PM ^
what wrong with monday? did you ever hear of something called monday night football? the hoops title game is monday as well. I'd guess monday is the best night of the week for this in terms of ratings.
