National Broadcast vs Michigan Broadcast?

Submitted by Michuganer on January 8th, 2024 at 3:47 PM

I'm curious what the board thinks. Last week I watched the game while listening to the Michigan radio broadcast. I'm debating whether to do that again or just watch and listen to the national broadcast. What are your thoughts? Also, GO BLUE!!!!!!

I only have basic cable, so no ESPN. For whatever reason, xfinity had the option to watch the ESPN video feed with the local radio announcers for both semi-final match-ups for free. I liked it, plus it saved me from having to pay for Sling or YouTubeTV or whatever. I'll try to hunt that down again, otherwise I'll probably re-up my Sling account for a $20 preview month.

One note: that local radio feed did not have any post game stuff. So if you're interested in things like post-game interviews or trophy presentation, I don't think this will cut it.

I'll add that obviously price is an individual determination, but I have YTTV and give it 11/10. I work in sports professionally and it's just about the best service I've found for all the leagues I need to watch/care about, and it works seamlessly on phone, TV, etc.

For those who have watched the TV broadcast while listening to radio, how well do they sink up? There has to be some delay of one vs. the other. That would drive me nuts.

Doesn't ESPN app have a broadcast where the local radio is synced up with the broadcast feed?  I may go with that and just cast to my TV.  I think it only requires an ESPN subscription, not ESPN+ but I could be wrong.

That said, as much as I love the local guys, I also like the big game feel of having the main announcers calling it so might go back and forth.

It's definitely a sickos type way of watching games but lately I've found myself watching the DraftKings live odds on my phone. It's ahead of the broadcast so you know when great/terrible stuff happens. I'm not saying it's a *good* way to watch, but it's a ride.

Edit: I've done this while also having the game on TV. I'm not doing this in a dark room, lol.

I was going to watch the ESPN Rose Bowl broadcast with Karsch and Jansen audio but they using only a portion of the screen for the game with a bunch of crap in margins.  Wasn't worth shrinking the video so I stuck with Fowler and Herbs.
