My take: M isn't leaving the B1G without OSU going to the same place with them

Submitted by badjuju81 on November 17th, 2023 at 11:26 AM

I think the value to the B1G and for the networks (the real power here = $$$) for both M & OSU is in the rivalry, so if either leaves without the other going to the same place, they both lose value in their new situation.  OSU has been running the B1G for decades, so they aren't going anywhere.  So M isn't going anywhere.

What do others on this forum think about my reasoning?

No, it doesn't.  I hypothesized both programs' value would be less without the annual rivalry game.  Both would still have great value, of course.  The post with the viewership data didn't include past M vs OSU games.  My recollection from posts last year is the two most watched college football games EVER were the last 2 editions of The Game.

The whole idea of a forum is for people to share ideas relative to a common interest.  I'm in several forums related to various pursuits, including hobbies, clubs, my neighborhood, my church, etc.  This is the ONLY one where people are criticized for sharing their ideas.

Its because this OP isn't worth a whole thread discussion in itself. Its part of the 90ish other "let's leave the B1G" threads. This is a response or thought that can go in another thread about the same. I fail to grasp why for some posters this is a difficult concept: New and noteworthy = thread topic. Noteworthy, well researched and developed = diary. The rest belongs in the thread created about the topic. This comment - the OP - is nothing new. It's not a particularly noteworthy thought, and it's definitely not well sourced or discussed.

"This comment - the OP - is nothing new."

> I haven't seen anyone else postulate the same idea.

"It's not a particularly noteworthy thought"

"and it's definitely not well sourced or discussed."

> There is no source, just an idea.  And I posted asking what folks thought, so starting a discussion.

The value isnt in the rivalry per se. Its that both teams are massive draws week in and week out. If Michigan leaves, Ohio State isnt sticking around to let Purdue and Minnesota make money off their back. Neither is the Pac4

Nah, fuck Ohio State. Rivalries are good when there is a mutual respect. That no longer exists.

The rivalry needs to die. As we have seen rivalries are no longer sacred cows in college football.

Michigan’s best team is being undermined by the actions of Ohio State. Harbaugh is most likely going to resign and head towards the NFL at the end of year.

Fuck Ohio State, the Big Ten, and anyone who supports either.

The only place ohio should follow M is on the head coach suspension list for their stolen signs given to other team and their alleged Day and bros off field crap

It only is if the team you cheer for shoots itself in the foot constantly. Best chance at a national championship in 25 years and its going to implode it seems. UofM waiting weeks to get into the counter PR campaign or to even deal with it has made it hard to even try to defend the university. They were under a PR campaign to destroy them and they just sat there hoping it went away. Just sad

I don't know how practical it is, but I would love to play Notre Dame every year. I always thought ND games were fun. I think it would be a while before we had talent parity with the big boys in the SEC, but competing there could be fun at times. I'd really to see us do something different. I'm just bored with Spartans with chips on their shoulders and Buckeyes with cannabis on their helmets. These games aren't fun anymore. I like playing Penn State and Minnesota, though that's not entirely about football. I'm pretty much indifferent to the rest.

But it's not my money I'm playing with, so 🤷‍♀️
