MSU loses to Purdue POSBANG

This should move them all the way down to 25.

Let’s bring back Friday Posbangs!

There was more than one present under the tree:

1) Sparty slowly dissipating a 16 point lead in the second half, while a marginally competent Purdue bumbles its way to make it close in the last 4 minutes

2) Sparty going double digit minutes without a field goal

3) As noted above, Purdue scores 6 points in the last 10 seconds to win and suck the life out of Sparty.

...and my favorite present...

4) watch Izzo unravel over the course of the second half. His team played like shit and nothing he did could change it.

This basketball season is the inverse of the football season. I love it.

Sparty nooooo!

Up 3 with 11 seconds left, they commit a stupid foul. Purdue hits 2 free throws. Then they turn it over on the inbounds, then foul again. Purdue hits one, then misses. Purdue’s giant stickboy grabs the rebound, then there is a jump ball. Possession arrow to Purdue, down one. Beautiful inbounds play, Trevion hits a short jumper with 4 seconds left. Sparty misses a runner at the buzzer. Glorious.

Love to see it, but wow, those out of bounds calls where the defender slaps it out of the offensive player's hand but it technically touches the offensive player last are bullshit

After watching Rutgers and Purdue struggle to score at Breslin this week, I’m starting to wonder if MSU might actually be good on defense. Fortunately, they still suck on offense.

I have no doubt about that. Their only answer to him scoring is to double hard immediately. If we make a reasonable percentage of 3s, we should win comfortably.

I do want to see Chaundee get more minutes against them to shut down Henry. Their only hope of making it a ballgame is if he goes off.

We should win by 20 at home and by 8-10 at Breslin.

I was thinking that too, I think they do a good job of staying in front of people, but I also think both Rutgers and Purdue played uncharacteristically horribly in these two games. Large parts of both games I feel I watched Rutgers/Purdue not making attempts to get into sets, wasting 12-15 seconds of multiple shot clocks just moving the ball between 3 guys on the wing, holding it for a half second and faking an entry pass, then passing back to the point. At least 3 different times we saw Purdue take the ball and reset with 15 seconds on the shot clock, and 14 seconds later they are throwing up a prayer because they never moved the ball. I think Michigan State will have trouble with teams like Michigan who have the ability to play through the post as well as attack the lane in various ways, at different speeds and angles. The reason Michigan is so fun to watch this season is because up to now they have been great at playing through the post, attacking close outs, and are a threat with most guys from 3. Everyone moves well without the ball and they share the ball well. They are truly complete on the offensive end, save for maybe someone who can run iso and get you a bucket, but we have Hunter for that anyway.

I think they are active defensively but it seems like in this game they struggled to keep it going.  Purdue scored 39 points in the second half and MSU had no answer for Williams.  From what I've gathered they don't have a lot of depth to their defense, so if guys like Kithier or Hauser get on the court for long stretches the defense really takes a dive.

Purdue shot horribly,  fumbled the ball away repeatedly, even Williams missed some easy looks.  It didn't seems like Purdue was setting any picks at all, hard to tell what kind of action they were trying to run.  Rutgers also looked horrible on offense.  I really don't think MSU is all that good on defense...and for sure they stink on offense.

MSU has to travel to Iowa next...even though Iowa doesn't defend much, it is difficult to imagine that Sparty will be able to score enough to hang close.  Ditto against us.

MSU-Mich is still four weeks away. Both teams will continue to evolve, especially State since they’re searching for answers. Bingham has gradually been playing more (last night notwithstanding); against us, he figures to play a lot to challenge Dickinson.

We still haven’t seen what happens if Dickinson gets two early fouls. Given the deference Izzo gets from refs and how hard at times he works them, it’s easy to imagine two early whistles changing the shape of the game.

Phenomenal end to the game. Purdue looked like shit for about 60-75% of that game. MSU couldn’t get out of their own way, 0 FG for like 13 min in the second half. Deserved loss
