MSU definitely doesn’t suck but they have had a very easy conference schedule thus far. They seem like a solid tourney team without the high end talent to make any real noise after getting in.

The last month has seen them beat Minny by 2, lose to Northwestern, win against Maryland by 2, lose to Illinois without Curbelo and Kofi, and lose to Rutgers by 21. Too bad we played like shit against them. We'd like to have that game back.

Luckily we get it back on March 1. The good news is Juwan usually makes the right adjustments in the second meeting of each season against them. The depressing news is that he goes into the first meeting as if he completely forgets what he seemed to have learned that Tom Izzo does every time (get f-ing back on defense).

Yeah, I said earlier in the year they're a classic Izzo team (a nice mix of older players who Izzo broke down and rebuilt into competent college players and some younger talent to spell them) but they lacked a playmaker at PG and so their ceiling is top-20/25, not the top-10 team they were for parts of the year.
Even against UM they got a bit lucky UM was that bad shooting the ball from outside or else that might have been closer. On the year they have one impressive win and that was on the road against Wiscy; otherwise it's mostly close wins in a banquet hall on an island and middling results against an easy schedule. They feel like a 5 seed that gets bounced relatively early in the tournament.

MSU turns the ball over too much which has been a chronic problem over the years, and they've become a bit of a 3 point jacking team. I remember when they used to make fun of Beilein's teams for the latter.

Michigan doesn't suck. We are going to get some good wins over the next month.
Sneak into the tournament and beat a couple of teams. Sweet 16 could be the ceiling.

I also think this is the perfect Izzo team to get a pretty good seed in the tournament and then lose in the first round. Good backcourt play Carrie’s you in the tournament and this MSU team’s backcourt is either shitty or too young, both of which are a good recipe to get you bounced from the tourney in the first weekend
