Moderator Action Sticky 2015

What moderating looks like on the back end.

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third. the fourth.

When the first two pages of comments have turned into a discussion of Al Jazeera vs. Fox News and a trolling by michfanisbackagain, I think it's time to turn out the lights...

Peyton Manning and His Wife Linked to HGH

I am in no condition to try and undo all the "which media outlet is the better media outlet" stuff, so I am going to remove this with the hope that someone will try again without complaining about who broke the story or which story was posted.

Greg Mattison's Future?

The crowd spoke on this one, but more importantly, I don't see Mattison going anywhere - pretty sure the idea was to fill the DC position and it seems no one has an issue with it.

Can someone ban IHateSparty? Check out any posts of his in the Tyvis Powell or Darron Lee NFL threads. All he's doing is trolling and attacking well respected Buckeye posters.

OT - RichRod Fires Jesus (aka Casteel)

This was left overnight in the hope that people could possibly move on and get this out of their system. It's a vain hope I have, but it is one I have all the same. Some five years distant from the dismissal of Rodriguez, it should be a chapter we don't need to revisit like this.....or indeed at all, for the board's sake.

One 6-year member Boliviated for going extreme political. Points back after the next presidential election--would nuke permanently if not for long history of not stepping over the line and some good contributions in the past.

Keep an eye on this one; lock if it gets out of hand.

OT : MSU QBs

This probably could have gone with the rest of the Michigan State QB schadenfreude in the Wild Card thread. It probably was not going to do well as a standalone, and also, the less MSU on the front of the MGoBoard, generally the happier people tend to be.

In the OP here, there is a statement:

"Before you look for your thread:

1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?"

That strikes me as a pretty clear statement that threads linking to a Drew Sharp article are forbidden.  That we forbid links to his articles is both fitting and proper.  This thread, though:

Links directly to a Drew Sharp article.

The subject of the post is not the Drew Sharp article per-se, but that it appears to be copied directly form another source.  the only reason there is a link is so people can make their own judgement, as well as see the timestamps on the 2 posts.

The MGoBoard FAQ states:

UNWELCOME, KTHX Politics Drew Sharp, Ace Williams, Mike Valenti. Saying stupid and/or false things about Michigan in order to get Michigan fans upset is a tried and true way to phish for clicks. Let's not feed the trolls.

which is about posting links Sharp is clickbaiting in. The OP doesn't even discuss what the articles are about, again the links are only provided as evidence. This is not about promoting Drew Sharp's point of view, it is about exposing the possible plagarism he perpetrated, which is with the spirit of getting rid of him.

Also, it is not like I was trying to hide the fact it was a freep/Drew Sharp link; IT SAYS IT IN THE DAMN LINK TEXT!

Endzone Book ?

Hopefully, the OP got the answer they were seeking - I pulled this one early as it probably was not going to generate a very healthy discussion beyond the prevailing answer that we've seen in previous threads on the subject, and I admit, I contributed a bit to ensure it didn't sadly. My mistake.

Why is Mike Valenti getting red ass on the radio and saying Michigan is oversigning

Let's try to keep Mike Valenti's red ass off of the blog, please. There is a "no Mike Valenti" rule, after all.

F the Freep

I know the OP was trying to generate discussion on the subject of the editorial, but it didn't seem like there was a lot of that going on in this thread as it was published in the Detroit Free Press and it is not a popular paper around these parts. A few folks have tried to post Free Press links to point out the position of various reporters on issues regarding Michigan in the last couple weeks and these threads generally go south in a hurry, so unless there's a superb explanation to accompany the link, you may just want to skip it.

OT: Sparty AD doesn't want "Primetime / Night Game" due to concerns over Mich St fans behavior.

We covered this one yesterday. Typically - and this is just me - if it has been a few days and the board has been brimming with topics, I might let slide, but we're not quite at that level even with all the recruiting threads. Remember that if the arrow over function (or the search function itself) isn't working for you to open pages of the board in new tabs to replace a normal search.

I posted this on your above referenced thread. Considering this thread as well as Brian's post regarding post on dumb threads, increasing the up/down vote points awarded to threads 10 times might really help self-regulation and actually make a lot more sense. Voting on OP threads should be much more magnified as opposed to comments as the threads are much more visible on the blog. By doing this, someone who puts in a lot more thought and effort in a posting a board or diary is properly rewarded above and beyond a vote buried within a thread. But also, if someone who post something trivial or dumb would be penalized by the same factor. I think that this would help in self-regulation as well. Since board posts and diaries are viewed differently, a different factor could be used (e.g, each vote is +/- 5 points for a board post, +/- 10 points for a diary). Again, this would help in self regulation as someone who has a few hundred points might think twice before making a post like the one reference above - a really bad one and his thread-starting privileges can be ended if his points fall below 100. I just think that tweaking the blog such that it is more self-regulating can only help the mods with the work load.

The Mike D'Antonio Blues

Just so folks know, sometimes these threads are intentionally allowed to sit to see what kind of elegant snark develops (unless it is blatantly offensive or political or a few other things, which this one obviously was not), but yeah, this one has probably been up long enough now.

Wisconsin Badgers hire former USC Trojans DC Justin Wilcox as their new DC

Normally, I would probably let this fly for a bit as it has been a solid 4-5 days since it was posted, but we do have a flurry of recruiting news yet to wade through so we'll call it "covered" for the time being.

Wondering why actual Gary news was taken down. Was it because it was bad news? National source plus rampant speculation plus what seems like a Clemson subtweet to Gary or something. There is definite smoke. Gotta say taking that down is poor form, even if the board doesn't want to see it.

....and that would sadly be because it never made it out of my tab of threads under review due to numerous downvotes. Yeah, there were several yesterday and this one should have gone back up. My fault for walking away (it was a kid-related reason - the vegetable steamer is not to be used in combat, we discovered) and forgetting honestly.

No, it wasn't because it was bad news - a Notre Dame writer changing one crystal ball is more of a sad troll attempt, I would think. Anyway, for what it is worth, it was put back.

Apologies to the board.

We are, however, trading it for this one -

My biggest issue with the possibility of Clemson landing Gary

...because while news is fine, we're going to stem the tide of personal takes as those are better posted in the threads.

Valenti reaches new low talking Rashan Gary

Valenti? I believe 97.1 runs with dead air from 2-6 PM.

The best strategy when talking Mike Valenti here is to simply not talk Mike Valenti. There is nothing that he says that would be of value here.

I may have added that last bit to the title before canning the thread.

By the way the thread below it had a discussion already forming about ND. Make your case there.
