Michigan vs. Notre Dame Second Half Open Thread

Down 10-0 at the half with 5 INTs. Can Hoke get the band back together in time to beat the Irish for the fourth year in a row?

We just need to accept Denard for what he is. He makes absolutely stupid mistakes sometimes, but without him, there's no way we would have won some of the games we did last year. There's also no way we beat Air Force this year.

There's just some things that if Denard hasn't been able to correct by now, he'll never correct. He's a special talent, but he's a square peg in a round hole.

Well, it's a loss. But I can't tell you how encouraging this game has been in allaying my defense fears. They showed up today. Floyd gave up this last play, but they did awesome otherwise.

Denard.... I just don't know man. Best player on the field for sure. But he's making freshman mistakes with the football, that much is just indisputable. I was just hoping this was the year that I could watch a game and not have the lingering Denard implosion fear. Apparently not.

Right.  I didn't say the team has cemented its legacy though.  People WILL still remember that Denard made awful decisions and was an interception machine during his time as Michigan quarterback.  He will also be remembered as a dynamic and exciting player.  That is his legacy.  He will always be a very divisive player among Michigan fans.  I like him as a qb, but his legacy will be what it is now.  You should read more closely and think a little harder next time.

Notre Dame did not beat us tonight. Michigan beat itself. Denard fucked up, and he fucked up bad. I hate placing individual blame, but minus that Smith int, this loss is all on Denard. The defense did its job tonight. I'm guessing that this is what karma must feel like, after three straight gut-wrenching losses to us after the last 3 years.

Props to Te'o. The guy played lights out tonight.

You win and lose as a team but my god the offense was terrible. Denard in particular. The defense was very encouraging and I think Michigan has a good chance at running the table against the big 10. The defense will only get better we just need to see what happens with denard the rest of the year.

"Notre Dame is for real. With a stout defense, the No. 11 Irish force six Michigan turnovers in a 13-6 win -- their first over the Wolverines since 2008."

Kind of a head-shaker, no? Their D stopped us?

Lot of season left. MSU and OSU still there. Lets not freak out we are 0-0 in big ten play this year. Lets regroup and win out. We will see what kind of leader Denard is the rest of the way. It would be great to see him give a Tebow type speech on Monday. Either way we don't need to panic. One bad game will not cost us the Rose Bowl.

This is a team sport, and Denard singlehandedly negated an acceptable team performance with jitters in the pocket and a plethora or picks and poor decisions. Dropped passes, missed tackles and blocks are nerving, but Denards performance was absolutely unacceptable of a Michigan quarterback. Poor decisions and he lost the game over and over again. I would have pulled him and put Bellomy in, that is how bad he played. Wait for the UFR, he blew it. D played well minus Q. Go Blue.

I still believe because of how weak the B10 is this year that a good conference record is possible but we're going to have to make some serious adjustments before we go to West Lafayette. It will be a long bus ride home back to Ann Arbor. Forget about this game. Learn from it and move on. The BYE week will help get reorganized.

I would almost like a rematch with them in a bowl game. That game was ours with half the turnovers. I am pretty happy with our d though. So is it Bellomy or Gardner next year?

1. We are 0-0 in b10. 2. Rest of conference is somewhere between a tire fire and sort of OK. 3. Defense looked better at lots of things today. Got off the field quickly while the offense was coughing it up, stretched things out from side to side better than they have, and d-line play was improved. Denard has eight or nine B10 games left. Time for Al to reset and decide to use his skills and not force him to be a quarterback. His fundamentals are still retry weak, and his decision-making is just pretty poor. Hope that Fitz continues to come along to give us a run-first look.
