Michigan vs. Hawaii Spread up to 51
September 5th, 2022 at 9:03 AM ^
Honestly seems low - 60 sounds right
September 5th, 2022 at 9:07 AM ^
At some point, you have to take into account walk ons playing and Harbaugh running clock in the 4th quarter. I don't think it's going to matter much though. If we get a number of interceptions, the score will add up quickly. I believe Hawaii threw 5 interceptions in their last game.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
Ditto that, I can see all of that happening. Michigan must play to these expectations.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:13 AM ^
If Michigan only scores 49 on Hawaii this board will melt down.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
If we throw deep, there will be someone weaving a conspiracy. If we throw no deep balls, there will be others complaining how bad we are and no good WR should come here. Can never win.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:14 AM ^
I'm torn on this one.
Part of me thinks this is the most obvious "under" bet ever, given Michigan's history of taking their foot off the gas and "everyone gets to play today" attitude in laugher games.
BUT
This is also JJ's audition for the starter job, possibly Cade's argument that he can still lead the team, Bowman actually looked sharp last week and Hawai'i really DOES suck that badly.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:18 AM ^
I think JJ scores on every drive. He will play up until the first drive after half. I think the score at half time will be around 38 to 45 points somewhere in there. Defense might score too or special teams. This should be a 70 point game
September 5th, 2022 at 9:46 AM ^
I agree that it should... but I've seen too many games where Michigan gets to the half in a laugher and then just sort of farts around in the second half.
I guess we'll see.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
This should not be a 70pt scrimmage under any circumstance if Harbaugh does what he should do, which is get the 3rd and 4th string out there ASAP.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:20 AM ^
Hawai'i really DOES suck that badly.
Yep, I'd say there is a very solid argument that Hawai'i is the worst team in FBS this season.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
I saw the Vandy game. I’d say there’s a solid argument Hawaii is the 3rd best team in the Philadelphia Catholic League this year.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
UConn may be the 2nd worst. Our ooc schedule is probably the weakest in the country, but as long as we keep playing nine conference games and a conference championship game, I’m all for it. The weaker, the better.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
Are they that bad? Their QB is nonexistent, but they appear to have a functional running game. It might even be good.
September 6th, 2022 at 12:18 AM ^
Kinda weird to think that Hawaii and UConn both played in BCS/NY6 bowl games in the past 15 years. Their recent hires - including Edsall, who got them into a major conference, then came back and got them out of one - really salted the earth there tho
September 5th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
Everyone played in 2016 and it was still 63-3.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:47 AM ^
True. That was a fun game to watch. Speight was slinging.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
Except for that first pass!
September 5th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
I don’t remember a single thing about that game…unless that was the one that was Speights first start and he threw a pick almost immediately
September 5th, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
'Twas that game and it was Wilton's first pass that was picked.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:48 PM ^
I don't remember a ton about that game either -- just that I was super excited about Chris Evans.
September 5th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
I was excited about Jordan uniforms and Jabrill being released at VIPER!
September 5th, 2022 at 10:12 AM ^
Id bet it’ll be like the 77-0 game. Bowman, Orji and Stokes will be playing in the 3rd and we’ll still be scoring at will
September 5th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
Personally I'd like to see some Davis Warren in the 4th quarter. Lets see if the hype is real. lol
September 8th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
It’s not enough like 2016 Rutger until we run a FB trap for the third stringer and he scores from more than ten yards out, untouched.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
This just means the tailgate needs to be even more spectacular….
September 5th, 2022 at 9:27 AM ^
There's no way Harbaugh keeps passing into the 4th in this game. He will not intentionally embarrass a team like Hawaii, whose coach is trying hard to dig out from a mess that has nothing to do with penalties or cheating. We'll see lots of walk-ons early, backups in the first half, and so on. I doubt either Cade or JJ see's much PT in the 3rd... They may well score 70, but it won't be like the 2016 Rutger game, when Rutger was chirping and gloating going into it and Harbaugh played the starters deep into the 3rd.
Harbaugh has a heart and some humanity about him...
September 5th, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
I don't think we'll air it out too much in the second half but I'd still expect to see a lot of starters in the third quarter. The guys still need their reps. If you sub too early in these three cupcake games, you may not be prepared for a four-quarter battle.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
I think Harbaugh will do what he can within reason to not make it too bad. Unfortunately for McCarthy there likely won't be much throwing.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:47 AM ^
He'll get throws in the first half...Harbaugh doesn't really let up before the 4th quarter.
He's normally full go until halftime, then full go...but 1st and 2nd team guys in the 3rd. And then it's all backups and walk-ons after that.
The thing about Hawaii that allows people to run up the score (that I haven't seen anyone mention) is that they throw so much that games can last longer.
So JJ might get more possessions just because there's more time on the clock due to incompletions.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:43 AM ^
I’m don’t bet on games so maybe I just don’t know, but I would stay away from spreads that big. There will likely be a lot of garbage time and it’s so difficult to say exactly what will happen in those types of games in all that garbage time. The only way I think it gets for sure over is if UM scores like 7 TDS in the first half before the starters are pulled and I don’t see that happening.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
I just locked in Michigan -51 for a healthier bet than I normally do. I look at it this way, we just beat what is most likely a better team by 44 points and played a below middling offensive game. Michigan should win by 60+ points. JJ will want to light it up.
Michigan 63
Hawaii 0
September 5th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
Take Michigan first half whatever the spread is. You want your bet resting in the hands of JJ and Corum not Orji and Gash (NTTAWWT).
September 5th, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Good advice, rice.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
This should not be called a football game, more like football practice.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
I'm riding -50. If this is not a 2016 Rutger outcome I will be very disappointed.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
People who are mocking the schedule forget how competitive games like this were during the Rich Rod era. This is so much better, I swear.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
UES - a lot of Carr coached teams played “closer to the competition” - when a solid win was possible.
From my perspective - the biggest detriment of those “close” games - when solid (17+ point) wins were possible - is the opportunity for the 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s to get game reps / experience.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
Good lord. What would the spread be if they played Bama or UGA?
Maybe similar since at some point, be it half time or middle of the 3rd, you call off the dogs.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
51 points - that’s 17 field goals by Moody.
My pre-season score prediction was 42-27, but - I think that’s way off…
September 5th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
27? Holy shit man did we just sign Maryland defense?
September 5th, 2022 at 4:17 PM ^
Hawaii has scored 27 total points in their first two games. They might get 7 against Michigan, but 3 or 0 is more likely.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
The pre-season write up from Alex (thanks Alex!) helped me win a good chunk of money fading Hawaii the last two weeks. They are the worst FBS team. I am sitting this one out but Michigan can name their number if they want to. Seems like the entire second half will be about how fast can we burn clock and get out of there with no injuries.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
I don't think it makes sense at all. Harbaugh isn't some Meyer/Day type of asshole who would run the score up. He'd empty the bench and have his graduate assistants playing if things started to get put of hand.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
Counterpoint: The QB competition is on and Harbaugh probably wants to get a lot of relevant data. Also, Cade seems a little pissed after the last game. I expect him to still be out there with the "ones" in the second half.
September 5th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Please, just no injuries.
September 5th, 2022 at 6:36 PM ^
I feel like I should give these tickets away rather than spend gas for a 3 hour drive there and back, parking, and food and beer. It is a reason to drink beer all day so there is that.
Go Blue!!!!
September 5th, 2022 at 7:10 PM ^
I would never bet on a game like this because it basically depends on how long Michigan keeps trying/keeps starters in. But let me say that if we had to win this game by 51 for some reason, I'm confident we could.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
I foresee multiple Orjis in the endzone.
September 6th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
Let's put them away in the first half, have lots of guys get some playing time, and nobody get hurt.
