Michigan vs. Hawaii Spread up to 51

This is the largest point spread for Michigan since at least 1997. It makes sense though. If Vanderbilt can score 63 on them, we may be able to hit 80.

I'm torn on this one.

Part of me thinks this is the most obvious "under" bet ever, given Michigan's history of taking their foot off the gas and "everyone gets to play today" attitude in laugher games.

BUT

This is also JJ's audition for the starter job, possibly Cade's argument that he can still lead the team, Bowman actually looked sharp last week and Hawai'i really DOES suck that badly.

There's no way Harbaugh keeps passing into the 4th in this game.  He will not intentionally embarrass a team like Hawaii, whose coach is trying hard to dig out from a mess that has nothing to do with penalties or cheating.  We'll see lots of walk-ons early, backups in the first half, and so on.  I doubt either Cade or JJ see's much PT in the 3rd...  They may well score 70, but it won't be like the 2016 Rutger game, when Rutger was chirping and gloating going into it and Harbaugh played the starters deep into the 3rd.

Harbaugh has a heart and some humanity about him...

I don't think we'll air it out too much in the second half but I'd still expect to see a lot of starters in the third quarter.  The guys still need their reps.  If you sub too early in these three cupcake games, you may not be prepared for a four-quarter battle.

He'll get throws in the first half...Harbaugh doesn't really let up before the 4th quarter.

He's normally full go until halftime, then full go...but 1st and 2nd team guys in the 3rd. And then it's all backups and walk-ons after that.

The thing about Hawaii that allows people to run up the score (that I haven't seen anyone mention) is that they throw so much that games can last longer.

So JJ might get more possessions just because there's more time on the clock due to incompletions.

I’m don’t bet on games so maybe I just don’t know, but I would stay away from spreads that big.  There will likely be a lot of garbage time and it’s so difficult to say exactly what will happen in those types of games in all that garbage time.  The only way I think it gets for sure over is if UM scores like 7 TDS in the first half before the starters are pulled and I don’t see that happening.

I just locked in Michigan -51 for a healthier bet than I normally do.  I look at it this way, we just beat what is most likely a better team by 44 points and played a below middling offensive game.  Michigan should win by 60+ points.  JJ will want to light it up.

Michigan 63

Hawaii 0

UES - a lot of Carr coached teams played “closer to the competition” - when a solid win was possible.

From my perspective - the biggest detriment of those “close” games - when solid (17+ point) wins were possible - is the opportunity for the 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s to get game reps / experience.

Good lord.  What would the spread be if they played Bama or UGA?

Maybe similar since at some point, be it half time or middle of the 3rd, you call off the dogs.

The pre-season write up from Alex (thanks Alex!) helped me win a good chunk of money fading Hawaii the last two weeks.  They are the worst FBS team.  I am sitting this one out but Michigan can name their number if they want to.  Seems like the entire second half will be about how fast can we burn clock and get out of there with no injuries.

I don't think it makes sense at all. Harbaugh isn't some Meyer/Day type of asshole who would run the score up. He'd empty the bench and have his graduate assistants playing if things started to get put of hand.

I feel like I should give these tickets away rather than spend gas for a 3 hour drive there and back, parking, and food and beer. It is a reason to drink beer all day so there is that.

I would never bet on a game like this because it basically depends on how long Michigan keeps trying/keeps starters in.  But let me say that if we had to win this game by 51 for some reason, I'm confident we could.
