I’m not sure he has the leg for it, but it sure would be nice if Moody can make a good living kicking field goals after he’s done at michigan. He sure deserves it.

Consistency is more important than range.
If you tell an NFL coach that Kicker 1 will hit a 49 yard field goal basically every time, but miss a 50 yarder basically every time. And that Kicker 2 can hit a 60 yarder but is a 50% coin toss from any range...
They'll choose Kicker 1.

Money Moody is a killer kicker. Glad we have him. After watching PSU game today, I very much appreciate what a good ST can do for a team.

I wonder if the offsides was on the long snapper not snapping when he was supposed to, rather than MSU purposely trying to get Michigan to jump the count?
Also fumbled snap, not forced by Michigan but good job tackling immediately.

Nope. None of the MSU players moved. It was a designed fake snap call. A smart play, and a mistake by Michigan that could have been costlier. First foot Jay Harbaugh has put wrong all year.

Eh… it was very, very close to being a false start. The upback who was calling the signals leaned forward as part of the hard count — in that same subtle way that quarterbacks are often allowed to do. I suspect Michigan was keying off of him, especially given that Michigan had to know that MSU is a threat to fake a punt at any time.

I was so mad at that, play punt safe and get the ball back with 40 seconds left and the ball to start the 2nd half.

Yeah, on 4th and less than 5 I don’t like to get too aggressive rushing the punter. We had a chance to do something there with the three timeouts and I didn’t want to risk it. Fortunately it didn’t end up mattering.

MSU bumbled and fumbled snap, UM tackle, and subsequent TD on turnover were my favorite plays of the game. That the sequence happened late in the game was especially gratifying. Karmic, even.

2 of 5 FGs were unnecessary for victory. Inefficient deployment of kicking.

Our special teams are lights out. Great coaching, great execution.
Jake Moody - wow. Dude is unreal. We've had great kickers over the years, but he may just be the best ever at Michigan.
Michigan is so fundamentally sound in every facet of the game. Really impressive. 8-0 baby!

Seriously. The epic double bird of the week are the two punt snaps the 6’3” kicker skied for and snagged with one hand negating what could have been 14 points on punting turnovers. Never seen a more athletic punter.

That first one, where he speared it, recovered, and got the punt off...was amazing to watch.

Outstanding special teams play. Was a huge difference in the game. MSU went on 4th down in chip shot range because they can’t kick field goals while we boom them from 54 yards out. They have a good punter (when they can get the ball to him). We don’t usually even need to punt.

MSU’s general style is aggressive-with-their-hair-on-fire. They might have gone for it anyway.
But, MSU’s punting game definitely shows the value of a good long snapper.

MSU punter by his standards had a terrible day. Its just so nice to know this is a strength of this team and even other teams with good special teams don't match up.
Sure wish we'd bust a KO or punt return for TD.

34 yard punt avg.
That leaves a lot to be desired. I keep telling my wife that the punt avg. has to improve.

By my count Jake Moody scored more than everyone else:
Moody: 5FG x 3 = 15 points + 2XP = 17 points
Corum: 2TD x 6 = 12 points
No question having a rock-solid kicker is a plus. No question. But it's a sign of something not quite right when the kicker outscores the QB+RB+WR core. Especially against a team like MSU, which was previewed as having a porous pass defense.
But a win is a good thing.

Another outstanding performance. Moody 5 for 5 in FG attempts. Only one blunder with the offsides late 2nd quarter.

Exceptional. 54 yard field goal into the wind at about 46 degrees temp. was great and likely adds the the security of Jake being selected in the draft.
