Michigan opens as a 47-point favorite over UConn. Sounds about right. Other lines of interest:

- Oklahoma 13.5 over Nebraska

- Washington 2 over MSU

- Oregon 4 over BYU

- Ohio State 31 over Toledo

Oklahoma should be a lock.  Would enjoy the Huskies covering the line.  A BYU win would be nice for multiple reasons.   As far as what happens in Columbus - I couldn’t care less.

Oklahoma should be a lock.

IDK; maybe, but maybe not. How many years in a row have we talked about Nebraska's talent and whether Frost could finally put it all together? Finally free of the Frosty effect, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out looking like a completely different team.

Or they could just collapse. Regardless it'll be interesting to see...

It's funny because the Hawaii line started at -47 as well, then the public bumped it up to -51/-52 prior to the game.  I imagine something similar will happen again.  I lost on -51 last week.  I am not doing that again.  The only thing that would change my mind is if the UConn program started talking crap during the week.  That's the only way Harbaugh would run it up...to make a statement.  Remember Rutgers 2016.  Otherwise, no thanks.

Yep I don't gamble because, I like having my money, but I told all my gambling friends to bet on this one. I forget where, maybe here in this blog or one of the 500 Michigan sports podcasts I watch that said something exactly along those lines - Hawaii was playing really nice with the AD and football program and there was no way the score was going to be overly ran up on them.

Jim seems very much that way - talk shit? Get hit. Be an ambassador of the game? Get treated with respect on and off the field.

For this reason I am curious if there is any bad, or good, blood between Jim Harbaugh and Jim Mora Jr. If its the former I could see us really rolling over them (ie playing JJ and the starters most of the game), especially with the "real" season beginning the following week. If Jim and Jim are friendly, I could see us calling off the dogs. If I was a bettor that is what I would be looking into.

I rarely gamble on sports, but when I do, I never gamble very much money, and never in a way that would make me enjoy it less.

For example, last year I bet on Michigan to win, straight-up, against Ohio State.  I did not enjoy that any less than I would have otherwise. ;)

As other have said, I gamble so little on any game that there is no stress.  I find it adds a little more excitement and interest in the entirety of the game.  Look at all the people that were gone from the stadium before the game ended on Saturday.  I can almost guarantee that none of the early exiters had any money on the game.  Now, I don't have a problem "getting up" for a Michigan game, ever.  But when it's ULL/Ga Southern, or Ball St/Akron, or something like that, then yeah a little wager helps.

When you have some skin in the game, it just makes it a little more interesting.  But I agree with many others in that betting an uncomfortable amount is plain dumb and ends up ruining the experience.  Who needs that kind of stress?

Rice, I saw your comment in the post-game thread afterward.  No I did not see your -31 call for first half and I wish I would've done that instead of the full game spread.  I am going to certainly consider the first half spread in this one although I think the book will be wiser now after last week.  First half is probably going to be like -38 or something like that.

OU didn't look great last weekend and I could see Nebraska having some fight in them, so they may well cover this 13.5 points.

Washington and MSU are pretty even - neither team has played anyone particularly good.  I do think people are sleeping a bit on the Huskies - Michael Penix makes their offense infinitely better than last year and they still have some talent on the defense.

BYU is going to beat Oregon and I'm not sure it's going to be particularly close.

I watched Penix play against their Kent State.  He seems to be back to his old self.  His stats for the first 2 game:

  • 26/39 - 345yds 4TDs
  • 20/27 - 337yds 2TDs and 1INT

We are going to find out something about MSU secondary this weekend.  I taking the Huskies on this one and if it is only 2-3 points, this maybe my lock.

Michigan State needs to prove their pass defense is actually good, or at least average....

BYU is going to crush Oregon

OU will whip up on Nebraska

I guess the question for betting on Michigan is how well our 3rd string will do against UConn's starters.  Against Hawaii they did okay but not well enough to cover even though JJ and crew got us to 42-0 at halftime.

It's kind of bad (and I kind of feel bad...). I certainly wouldn't complain about a Sparty loss, but I feel like my MSU/PSU rooting interests are tied to the 10/29 tv schedule.

Long story short, I want the MSU game to be a noon game, not a night game. M-MSU and OSU-PSU are clearly the top two B1G games that day, so one will be Big Noon on Fox, and the other will be on ABC, quite possibly at night. There have been rumors we'll be the night game, which doesn't make any sense from any of the team's standpoints (neither us nor MSU want a night game, and you know PSU wants their home OSU game in primetime). But I don't know who has the top pick that week, i.e. is it Fox wanting OSU-PSU for noon, or ESPN wanting us in primetime. So accordingly, if Fox has the top pick, I want our game with MSU to look like the marquee game of the week (i.e. have PSU start losing), but if ESPN has the pick, I'd rather MSU start crashing while PSU wins.

I know, never let scheduling concerns get in the way of true fandom...

Betting the first half line makes a lot more sense in these huge spreads. You can’t trust the 2nd & 3rd stringers to keep the rout going in the 2nd half. The first half line for Hawaii was -31 which was covered by 11 points.

I would be thrilled to see how good or bad sparty is against Washington. I don't think sparty is that good this year. I said it to a buddy of mine during the game. You are not gonna hit on a Kenneth Walker in the portal every year. If you live and die by the portal yearly i think you miss more than you hit. Just my opinion any way.
