Michigan Mott Spring Game pres. by PNC Bank time/TV announced

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The Mott Spring Football Game presented by PNC Bank will be held at 2pm on April 5th at The Big House per an MGoBlue release.

(I know the proceeds go to Mott, but jeez can we at least have the word "Michigan" in the title?)

The Victors Classic Alumni Game will be at Noon with gates opening at 11.

The game will be played at 2pm this year. Different than its usual Noon or 1pm start. After the game, at 4:30pm, Battle at The Big House III will take place--Michigan vs fairfield in Men's Lacrosse.

The spring game will be televised live by BTN and will be broadcast on 950am WWJ.

I asked Mott on twitter if they're going to do the donation incentives like they have in past years and they said they will announce what the items are in a few days.

Given how we're slowly coming off a rather brutal winter, I would take the average highs for early April, as they trend in the mid-50s typically. The good thing is that by early April, we're normally at least nearly out of the woods for snow (normally, but not always), although it gets quickly replaced by rain as we saw last year. If it is any consolation, they were talking about a semi-consistent stretch in the 50s for high as early as next week by some models, so we might be in good shape, which is nice because I would like to bring my kids this year.

that would help attendance would be to have it finally again be in the actual format of a game rather than a glorified scrimmage/practice session.  But I don't see that happening until we have enough depth in every position, and we seem to be a long way from there with the OL..

Bad weather, though?  Only the worst weather keeps me away, but yes, some nice warm spring weather for the families and kids would hit the spot after this monster of a winter.

I've always wondered how teams do a true game in the spring.  If you have 85 scholarship players, you lose around 20 every year.  You only have about 65 guys to divide into two teams (not taking into account early enrollees or guys who are injured and not participating in the spring).  32 guys on a team isn't much when you start talking about all the different personnel packages you need to account for on offense (base package, 3 or 4 wr sets, multiple TE sets, etc) and defense (base package, nickel and dime packages, short yardage, etc).

There is no rule that you must refer to the spring game by the official tag the school assigns it.  The world would be a better place if we just called it the "Michigan Spring Game" and ditched the whining.

2 pm sunny and 50 degrees should be good enough to get a decent crowd. Just hope the weathers nice

Yea, the spring game will be over long before the first FF game. It seems like a terrible move to have the game that early in the year when we could be playing a bball game the same day unless they don't care if 10,000 people show up.

I have gone since RR opened it upto the public. 2nd coolest thing he did (Denard being 1st). I was on TV last year, bundeled up in winter coat, hat, gloves and a scarf. It was damn cold last year.

But it wasn't open to the public - it was "Fort Schembechler" and the average joe was not invited. I was in no way insinuating that RR was the first to have a spring game. I wasn't able to pick my seat in the Big House for free like you can today!

The first spring game I went to (had to be late 70's) was topped off when (well after it ended) we met Bo himself!

Though nearly everyone else there had left, we had hung around afterwards in the Crisler lot enjoying a nice spring day, throwing the football around, when Bo walked out of the tunnel and stopped to watch us for a second or two (it had to be at least an hour or two after the spring game had ended.)  He caught our attention by telling one of my buddies, "Nice catch, big fella!" after an off-target throw my none other than me.  We all got a chance to chat with Bo for a few minutes before he moved on, as we stood there in awe of the moment.

True story!

Dude, what are you talking about?

Practices were off limits. But there has been a football spring game every single year since 1951 (1995 and 2003 were cancelled, however).

All of them were open to the public except the infamous 2008 game held at Saline HS because of Michigan Stadium major renovations. It was invite-only due to the 1K seat stadium hosting it and the obvious hoards of people that would've showed up to check out the new offense.

Ok - once again I have been found to be wrong... Won't be the last time either. I guess I just never went to them during Lloyd's years. I thought it wasn't open to the public. Sorry about that, and I'm glad you set me straight.

I have never gone to the spring game. Do they charge admission? Is there any player/fan interaction? Can you sit anywhere you want? How bad is parking?
Thanks!!!
