Michigan #1 in FEI Special Teams Efficiency
A lot of articles have made comparisons of the offense and defense advanced metrics for the teams on our schedule. I was curious how special teams also compared and decided to take a look at the FEI Special Teams rankings.

Hats off to Jay Harbaugh, our two excellent veteran kickers, and the rest of the special teams players for giving us a distinct edge in the third phase of the game.

Wasn't Jaybaugh adopted?

Yes, he was raised by wolves(erines)!

Can we please have Brad Robbins forever? He is a national treasure. Oh and a damn good punter.

I was trying to put my finger on who he looks like and finally figured it out.
Mark Twain
I also see a little Captain Kangaroo.

I know there is some childhood or cartoon villain that looks like him. I can't quite figure it out. I want to say something about a bomber...?

Also he looks like Gary McCord, golf commentator.

Love him to death but must say, he's the oldest looking 20-something I think I've ever seen. Already bald, with wrinkles and a faded stache... I'm going to assume he's already married with 3 kids, one of whom is already engaged.

His speakeasy served old timey cocktails with moonshine made out on his back property during the prohibition years.

Seems like every position Jay coaches seems to excel. Coach in waiting.
October 6th, 2022 at 7:52 AM ^
It’ll be Interesting to see how much of an impact our long snapper and Kolesar made with both of them being out for the season now.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:05 AM ^
Jay has really come into his own as a coach.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:15 AM ^
and recruiter....

I've felt for some time that we need a UFR for special teams play. Great efforts by Jay and the troops. Hasn't gone unnoticed.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:56 AM ^
We had one some years back, I remember, maybe, 2 or 3 of them before they fell by the wayside.
EDIT: I didn't find one in a search, the best I could was a post from SRJK in 2017 that mentioned Adam's special teams UFR. So they were somewhere back in that time frame.
October 6th, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
That 'stache is a UFR +3 for certain.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:32 AM ^
Does this metric adjust for strength of schedule?
October 6th, 2022 at 9:17 AM ^
I'm not sure.
October 6th, 2022 at 9:43 AM ^
It is opponent adjusted.

I remember some lean years on special teams and am thoroughly enjoying the effort and results of our current ST group. Michigan has certainly had some legendary kickers, cover guys and return men and some of our current roster is right up there with the greats.

Bo's teams used to block a lot of kicks, especially in the tripp wellborn era.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:41 AM ^
Great special teams are a sign of a well coached team that pays attention to the details.
October 6th, 2022 at 9:05 AM ^
Absolutely right. These numbers speak volumes.
October 6th, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
I should have posted it, but last year's numbers do to. Michigan was #1 for 2021 as well.

no surprise there. i am still shocked that both moody and robbins returned this year. could be earning big bucks in the nfl already. but i am sure glad they did.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
Harbaugh. No Nepotism needed.
