MichFan1997's thoughts

Submitted by MichFan1997 on

Well, it's been a crazy, frustrating and at times wild ride under Rich Rod. But you know what, it just isn't meant to be here. He's a good coach. I firmly believe that. But there is just too much working against him. From poor recruiting and development late in the Carr era, players not buying in and transfering, the local media working against him because he's not a "Michigan Man," to just plain bad luck. I'm still a RR supporter, but it's time to move on. It's just not working out here. There have been signs of progress, sure. There haven't been enough of them, IMO. I'm ready to move on. I'm ready to see RR move on so that maybe he can get a fresh start and just get this pressure off of him for the first time in 3 years. I want Harbaugh here at any cost. Hopefully, one day we can see JH square off against RR in a BCS bowl. Anyways, I'm done talking now. I'm hang up and listen, and as always, GO BLUE.

Why cant someone come on here and voice his opinion?? This site has become mlive, everytime someone wants to voice their opinion someone else has something stupid to say. He is free to voice it, this is a message board and none of you control it. Also, his title gave a title indicating what the hell the thread is about. If you do not want to read his thoughts dont click on the damn thread.Instead, this board is now filled with threads about people arguing if its origination is valid or not! Can we all just quit that shit. If it does not have more than 10 replies that will tell people it will probably not me a good thread. Instead, now were seeing threads with 100 replies and 90 of them are people bitching at each other!

Had to Vent.

Good threads are threads that present new information, give an original perspective, or function as a prompt for further conversation on a topic of interest. This post was simply a statement of an unoriginal opinion held by a ton of people without starting a decent conversation. It is something that should be posted as a reply to a thread, rather than a new threaditself.

My opinion has not changed on RR. He is an outstanding coach and leader, qualities that GERG lacks. It just hasn't worked out for the team just far as far as execution goes. If this indeed is his last season here, I wish him the best. Time to move on in a different direction now.

Thank you, MichFan 1997.  Your thoughts are amazing thoughts, and when I thought about your thoughts I thought some thoughts of my own.

Not trying to be snarky, but how does the Freep not liking RR affect anything that happens on the field?

but it sure makes it a lot harder when people buy into everything the media says and takes it as fact. It makes it a lot easier too for other coaches to "prove" how bad things are at Michigan. I'm not saying it's a huge factor, but I have a hard time believing it's of no affect at all.

I have thought this many times as well.  The media may be a nuisance, but they're not throwing over the top of the safeties.

By the way, I already know someone will say the media was more than merely a nuisance for this staff, so have at it...

If nothing else, the next few weeks will be exciting for Michigan fans. Something has to change, IMO. Whether that means just getting rid of some defensive staff, or a new HC, it will be interesting. It's too bad the team didn't perform better in the Gator Bowl, but let's just move on, sit back, and watch the changes roll out from DB. Can't wait to hear what DB has to say.

RR.  After today...no.  That will not be a fun meeting no matter how it goes.  I can't see a scenario where it will end well.  I firmly believe RR will be coaching somehwere else next season.   Bottom line is if you don't win you get fired, it's pretty simple.

essential element in development is what?  Time the kids need time to develope.  The coaches need time to develope freshmen, sophs, and juniors.  Ironically the worst player on the field today was a Caee holdover.  Obi good bye kid we lost you when Carr left.

You can develop a lot in a short time or even regress in a long time.

How you work makes a big difference. How you are coached, if you are a football player, plays a big role in how you work.

You can learn to tackle if you are properly taught. You may never learn if you aren't.

RR needs one more year. Uusually, a coach gets 4 years, and lets not forget RR has improved wins each year. Obviously, a 7 win season for Michigan is unacceptable, but is improvement none the less. Our defense was 108th in the nation. If we had a defense that was ranked in the 60-70 range, we would be probably be 8-4, or 9-3. Lets bring in a capable DC who has proven himself and who runs a 4-3. Lets do whatever it takes to get that guy. And if they dont compete for the Big Ten(12) next yr, then it will be time to bring in someone else.

a die hard RR backer, but not any more.  As the Genuinely Sarcastic post said, "its the details".

This game, along with too many others, was pathetic.

The players deserve better coaching.

In retrospect, it was Jim Casteel at WVA who was just as important as RichRod.

Without Casteel, RichRod is just a good Offensive Coordinator.

Sadly, Fail.

control how the defense is run.  The 3-3-5 is an abject failure!   His choices of DCs have been failures.  Why, because RR forces them to run a defense they are unfamiliar with.  Jeff Casteel won't come here and he can't fix this defense.  Face it.  Unfortunately, the experiment failed.  One more year will not make this team comptetitve with OSU, MSU, or Wisconsin.

The name of the game is wins and Rich has too few to hang his hat on.  What argument could he use to prove he shouls get another year?   o wins against our rivals in three years. 0 wins against team with a winning conference record in three years. An 8-16 conference record and  three straight blowout losses to end the season.

It's not just that the defense is horrendous, the offense hasn't moved the ball in the last three games either.   Don't talk to me about progress because there hasn't been any of that to speak of.   Face the facts, the spread, the schemes and the coaches are just not a good fit here.

Rich is a good guy, a man of integrity and high ideals, but this not the Big East and not West Virginia.   If he goes to Clemson or Maryland he will win a lot more, but not here.

I'm sorry, I can't defend this staff any longer.  The kids play very hard and the coaches care about them, that is obvious, but at Michigan you have to win too.

The DBs were playing a solid 10-12 yards off receivers all game, even in the red zone.  You can't react to guys who are running routes if you're standing still waiting to see what happens.  It's not even bend but don't break defense; rather, it's just break.

In contrast, MSU played tight defense, contested passes, broke up passes, and made plays - basically everything we've been hoping for in our defense.  Our defense is at an all time low, in part because of the coaching staff.  Not one iota of improvement on that side of the ball all year; in fact, you could argue the defense regressed.  Definitely a nail in the coffin for GERG, if not for Rrod also.
