MGrowOld and His Tix

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on
Has anybody else thought of him and his very public decision to not renew his tickets? I wonder how he is feeling right now.

I waited until just after the presser started to make my PSD.  I kicked in a little some-some as well.  I hope Hackett gets the message.  I will get a second set of tix in the end zone as well.

We have a very good home schedule this year so I might as well try to score extras.  I can always re-evaluate after the season; however, I think we are now going in the right direction.

That "little girl" would know how to spell "united" if she went to any public or private school in Ann Arbor.  Sorry, but her Sparty sign is fair game AFAIC.  But it may be cool to blur out her face in the definitive picture that will be shown as an example of Spartitude for years to come.

I mean without the very real threat of a decimated attendance base, maybe the admins wouldn't have taken the coaching search as seriously as they did. I don't know what the actual renewal rate was this year but something tells me that the AD was pretty cognizent of a cliff drop if Hoke had been retained or if they had hired Schiano or some crap. Someone had to make a statement to demonstrate the discontent, so kudos to him and others for taking the fall and putting his money where his mouth was.

There's no way we were hiring a flyer if we could get Harbaugh for one million more than Hoke makes. You'd have to be a complete fool to go after a flyer with that caliber of coach no matter what people's ticket renewals say. The university has probably already made 35 million dollars off of donations in the last 3 days.

To a degree,  you have to credit the actions of those who made tough decisions in these times. I took a moment to browse a Notre Dame fan site thread where the topic was the UM JH hire.  If you view it from their perspective,  the actions taken by the UM fanbase in the last several weeks were paramount in where we stand today. I fell very low myself honestly.  Therefore,  I don't blame anyone for taking measures they felt were appropriate themselves.

I am still on the fence about giving my tickets up. I can't go to every game and couldn't give the tickets away last year. Harbaugh and a good schedule does make a difference. I wish I could just buy them every other year.

I miss the days of ytMiami, FSU, Washington, UCLA, etc. out of conference.  Surely the CFP will push Michigan in that direction from SOS perspective.

If the value of the tickets go up -- and with DB gone they surely will, and I can break even on the games I cannot make/fly in for, I'll get on the waiting list again.

Hiring Schiano was unlikley but not an impossibility. It would have been in line with the Brandon and Hoke hires that's for sure. How happy would you have been with, say, a plan C option such as Kyle Whittingham? Surely that was not beyond the realm of possibilities. Hackett himself claimed that there was a point where he doubted it would work out.

Unconditional support may look good in hindslight but let's face it, as Brian said, Hackett was somewhat of an unknown when he was hired. We didn't know what to expect. It worked out. A year ago there was no reason to believe it would.

I haven't gotten rid of my tickets yet, but if I did it wouldn't have been just about the on field product. Prices are sky rocketing. Depending on PSD tier and distance traveled, a season ticket holder will spend thousands of dollars over. the course of a season. Weighing the importance of that spending versus other financial wants/necessities doesn't make anyone less of a fan asshole.

I hope you choke on the same bowl of dicks Dave Brandon is eating right now.

There are lots of cogent reasons why people gave up their tickets... namely the expense was not commensurate with the bullshit -- not because they don't support their university.

For example, I donated some of the money I would have spent on tix to the Cardiac Center instead. I bet there are lots of little anecdotes floating around in here but we don't always know them because for some it's a private decision and then there's so much chaff in these forums these days that people don't waste their time furthering the discussion.

The country club, status symbol, attitude of some season ticket holders in here needs to go.

I was just looking at tix for the Utah game and lowest price is $350 in the end zone.

Have no idea what they were priced before this week, but that seems surprisingly high.

Never look to buy this early on secondary websites: ebay. stubhub, etc this early.  The prices are crazy inflated because of expectation, anticapation, and low supply (tickets are 7 months away at least from being in hand.  I would look to buy Utah tickets early-mid august.

Appreciate the advice.  I'm definitely going but was hoping to spend quite a bit less.  I recall in the past being able to purchase visitor tix through the alumni association as well.  I'll wait it out and see what's available in August.

Rice-Eccles is also not a very big stadium, and it seems to usually sell out. My family has been sniffing around for tickets for a while. We have a few prospective sources, but we probably won't be near any Michigan fans.

Wondering if we should start a OT thread... how many people from the west are going to go to the Utah game?????  I live in Colorado but would make the trip.

With the couple of games against AFA lately, I was hoping Michigan would give them a home and home.  Colorado Springs would turn into Ann Arbor west if that ever happened!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on whether I can afford it given college tuition I will be paying this fall. If my daughter goes to Johns Hopkins, though, I may go to the Maryland game and take her. She is a huge college football and Michigan fan and that would be a great way to spend some quality time with her.

We should probably start as topic as the season approaches and revive this. I'd argue mgoblog has as much reach as the Alumni Association. It would be pretty darn cool to have a large presence there. Plus, Utah is nice vacation spot.

As I said last year, he better never come back. The big problem I had with it was that he didn't cancel his tickets quietly. He had to let everyone know he was doing it. Kind of like Farve and his retirement.
