MGoFish: "Michigan likely to land RB Kareem Walker"

Submitted by Jim Harbaugh on

MGoFish had posted this update tonight from his OSU source:

“I’m 99.999% sure he is out for OSU”, the source said about Walker. It turns out this last visit and some other things have rubbed the Buckeye coaching staff the wrong way and that’s why they’re going all in on Wisconsin running back commit Antonio Williams (who the source believes will flip and join the OSU class in the not-so-distant future)."

"I’d be willing to bet (money) that he suits up in Maize & Blue for his first collegiate game.”

Obviously this isnt a lock, but good sign moving forward in his recruitment.

Yeah I see the opposite. Mitchell looks like an athletic freak who is good enough at football that you don't have to coach him a ton to get him on the field quickly. He's not running a 4.2 freak, but he's 6'3, fast enough, and just has that special factor with the ball in his hands. He can score any time he touches it.

Walker might be overrated, but he still looks really good. He's got great size and GREAT vision. You really can't teach vision. You can make guys faster, stronger (both areas that Walker is fine in already), better blockers and receivers...but to have the vision and balance that he has at 6'1 200 pounds is really special.

is a very good prospect, IMHO. I don't need a site to tell me he's going to be a star somewhere. With all modesty I can day that I'm not good at many things but I can usually tell when a kid is underrated or overrated and Corley is definitely a top-5 WR, IMHO. If we don't get him I really really hope he goes to UT. I had the pleasure of seeing Woodson dismantle my old HS as a kid and I'm not saying Corley is Woodson but watching his tape was like being that kid again, seeing Charles do everything to beat us badly (we were damn good that year, too). Very similar in HS, IMO. Woodson was more HB/DB to Corley WR/DB but they appear very similar to my memory. Same basic build and athleticism. Corley moves a lot like I recall Charles moving in HS. Both are deceiving fast in that they don't ever appear to be running hard but cover ground quickly. Both could jump out of the gym, etc. Corley reminds me (literally) of Woodson in HS more than any player I can think of. I never agreed with Peppers - Woodson comparison, Cravens, etc. I didn't expect it but I pushed play and I swear it was like I was watching Freemont Ross tape from '93-94 lol. As for Walker, I honestly haven't seen his tape. I don't follow recruiting as much anymore (on purpose). I'll check it out now and reply with opinion but I hear a lot say it's very "Green like". No offense to him but I didn't think he was close to the #1 HB in the country that year. We wanted him because everyone else wanted him and he was ranked no lower than the #5 HB or something close, #1 by Rivals, IIRC (the most accurate ranking site, IMO). I wanted him but viewed him as I would a low 4*. A guy his size has to run mean and he doesn't. His HS film was extremely underwhelming to my eyes.

I think he's a top-5 guy. Admittedly, his Senior tape is weaker than his Junior tape but many kids/schools coast their Senior year when they know an injury could severely alter their future. He seems to run a bit slower, weaker and less determined than he did as a Junior. I can see how the tape isn't what you expect the #1 HB in the country to look like but it's not as bad as I was expecting. Yet, I'm not sure he'd be my first choice if I had pick of the class. I'd happily take him but I see what many mean when they say they wouldn't be hurt if we didn't get him. He's surely more of a North-South, quick cut, vision back than a home run hitter. If you want a guy that's going to outrun the entire defense you need to look elsewhere. That's not him. If you want a guy that'll hit the hole provided and grab 3 before avoiding tackles, there ya go. JMHO, of course.

You could have been looking for ankle breaking moves that just jump out at all of us. But Corley looks extremely smooth in the passing game, never fights the ball, seems to catch it equally well with his hands and his body. Looks almost effortless when he catches the ball and always seems to be in position to do something with it after he catches it. High points the ball excellently and no one makes up a step on him when he is in the open. Plus he has a really nice stop and start move. Pretty darn solid from what i can tell.

Tend to agree.  Corley is a long athlete who is a smooth strider once he gets moving, but he takes little steps which slows his acceleration.  When I watch Mitchell, he is well built and strong.  More quick than fast.  Smooth into the routes and aggressive in getting the ball on slants in traffic whereas Corley seems to get a bunch of jump balls.

Admitedly, I'm no expert and ultimately trust the judgement of Harbaugh and his staff.  These are just my impressions when watching the tape.
