MGoBlue Highlights and RR Interview

Carvin made some wicked hits!
Denard's INT's were so horribly thrown. Hopefully they slipped out of his hand. :)
That Craig Roh hit/fumble was awesome.

Carvin did light up a few guys, definitely great to see him making plays.
And yes, I do think at least one of Denard's INT's was a result of slippage.

Enough of the 1st down handoff to Smith for 2 yds. That has become so predictable that my 9 year old son knows its coming. I was glad to see the reverse - which caught them off guard, but how about mixing up your 1st down selections Rich?

I guess everytime we hand off to Smith it is the same play. You belong in the high school stands with the people that say "why do they hand it off in the middle when it is open outside?". In the huddle, Denard doesn't say "straight to Smith". This game is more complicated than this. Maybe we should call "pass outside" more often. Fuck.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
agree with you. We were predictable on 1st down all day. Forcing Denard to throw on 3rd and long when the D expects it is a recipe for disaster.
I think it's because you only have 31 points. You aren't allowed to have an opinion.

It was particularly a problem against a defensive front like Purdue's, which leads the league in sacks.
I've noticed that even though our YPC average is outstanding, we're not getting many big plays on the ground anymore. Denard has a hard time breaking tackles and the backs mostly aren't fast enough to take it to the house. Our ground game is great for moving the chains, but for big scoring plays, we need to go to the air. On that one drive where we ran it like nine times in a row, I kept wondering when the play-action was coming. It never came and we finally were stopped.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:33 PM ^
The dive play on 1st down became very predictable. Denard also seemed to run a lot inside on 1st down which just seems like a waste. Where did the outside zone go today?
November 13th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
Michigan ran more stretch plays, that is outside zone runs, than it had all year today. Thanks for trying though!

Ugly game on an ugly day but that 7th win remains beautiful to me.
November 13th, 2010 at 6:40 PM ^
like Carvin is back to being healthy. It really sucks that we have to play so many freshman/sophomores this year, but the experience could pay a ton of dividends down the road.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
I'll stick with "will" pay dividends...there is no substitute for experience.

Rich Rod: It was a calamity of errors...
Well said.
November 13th, 2010 at 6:46 PM ^
This game was pretty ugly but a win is a win. A few years from now we're not going to remember the quality of the win but just the fact they won.
November 13th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
from watching the game at a bar so no sound, but it seemed like Roundtree quietly had another pretty solid day. 6 receptions for almost 70 yards and a TD? With as many playmakers as this team has that's not a bad day especially given the weather conditions.
November 13th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
QB play was bad from Denard and Tate, Purdue only scored 6 points on their own, 7 were from a bad INT and another field goal came off another INT. It's nice when your defense can keep you in a game, they are definitely improved. I know this was Purdue, but if we can keep it close against Wisconsin (a team that scored 83!! on Indiana) it would really show me that they are playing better and I'd think about not firing Greg Robinson. Carvin Johnson is going to be a star.

Roh's spin move at 3:38 . . . good to have you back on the line, sir.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
7-3, guys. 7 and 3.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:44 PM ^
I DVR'd the game. I only saw the last quarter, but it looks as though the light switched on for the D, some pretty stellar play. I hope this carries over for the Wisc game, Ind. must have given up today.
November 13th, 2010 at 9:31 PM ^
We'll see if the light stays on against Wiscy next week. Purdue's offense is a joke.
Hopefully the win builds some confidence for them though.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:16 PM ^
that despite the weather RR recognized that neither Denard nor Tate played well. Still happy for the win.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
I am not one that breaks down film, but it seemed apparent to me that our O line did not do a very good job today. They had some moments, but just seemed overall that they lost the battle. Anyone else see this?
November 13th, 2010 at 9:11 PM ^
There was one drive (early in the 2nd half I think) half where they got good push and Denard was runiiiiiiiing.
