It's a thankless, but necessary position, what could you accomplish in one day of modding? Banning me is entirely ACCEPTABLE.
I would ban all viewpoints that contradict my beliefs and/or ideas and all posts that I simply do not like and/or enjoy. In other words, I would do the same thing the current moderators do . . . (I jest!)
Give everyone with greater than 500 points the ability to freely downvote.
dong punch muppets and declare Henri "unacceptable." Then I would institute a 5 million point post threshhold.
Ban all the other Mods and take over. Say hello to MGoWordToYourMother.
Id also hire the WLA.
Several from the WLA were previously "employed" as mods. Several were mods. chitown actually deleted his own account to make sure he could never mod again.
How many moderators are there in the MGoCommunity? How often do you check the site for deletable content?
There's around 10-15 with powers. Only about 5-7 of us actively moderate, the others have left over power from guest posts or baby-sitting the site during one of Brian's vacations. Of those 5-7 active, I would guess Brian, Geaux, Tim, and myself are most active.
No set schedule. We just pop in and out at convenience. Peak times of year for me, I'm actively floating through every thread ~10 hours a day. I would say I spend closer to 3-4 sessions per day just running through things, maybe combined for over an hour per day on a normal week day. Post game Saturdays and Sundays, if I'm not working for the Texans, I tend to spend more time excising ad hominem or knee jerk reactions.
No offense, but a solid 10 hours a day seems pretty insane. I hope you're being compensated.
Peak hours tend to be my own free time. It happened more when I was only taking 12 credit hours (classes only Monday and Wednesday 8a-2p). I spend close to 6-7 hours a day online and with google reader and twitter streamlining the process, I keep one monitor on mgoblog/reader/twitter, the other on ESPN360/TV. I am a content whore to an extreme.
During my "peak times," I'm on the internet/TV for 12-14 hours a day. Luckily, I'm working 2 jobs now as well as taking 16 hours to compensate for those past free times. I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours of content saturation. I've yet to even help out on CiL's for Michigan games, or even watch more than one volleyball game this season as a result.
And compensation, no. Baseball season nets me a little cash, but not enough to be taxed on. That's for content, not moderation, but that's fine with me.
Can I have powers?
1. Grammar nazis
2. Posters who point out there was a related post 3 weeks ago, and you should have replied to it.
3. Posters who start a post complaining about dumb/unnecessary posts(really? seriously?)
Anything Brian commented on would get pinned to the top.
Seriously? 'Nazis' should be capitalized.
I would change people's passwords, avatars and usernames... and really mess with people's minds. I'd probably reverse the site so the mgoboard and diaries are on the left side. I'd also reverse the color scheme, so maize is the predominant color. I'd also translate everything into Spanish. (All inadvertently.)
Yup, I'd pretty much ruin everything.
That would be a total Mind-F, I would actually have to do some work at the office if that happened.
Are you a mod from GBMW?
Unlike many things tossed around here, we do implement something similar for some trolls.
that's what it does. i thought when we clicked that it sent kathy bates over to someone's house with a sledgehammer and a typewriter. now i feel bad for doing it so often
- # Delay: Create a random-length delay, giving the appearance of a slow connection. (by default this happens 40% of the time)
- # White screen: Present the user with a white-screen. (by default this happens 10% of the time)
- # Wrong page: Redirect to a random URL in a predefined list. (by default this happens 0% of the time)
I have a bone to pick with y'all!
So this is why I keep getting that "504 Gateway Timeout" bullshit?!
I hate you...
awwwh man....that must be what's wrong with our secondary considering all the "402 tackle not found" errors.
to delete their own thread. When news comes out, inevitably there's two to three people who post on the same topic, typically a Hello: Player X thread. I'd let the late guys to the party delete their post so they don't take up MGoBoard space with "Duplicate, Please Delete"
I've been waiting for this to happen for quite some time.
I think the reason this hasn't happened is so that trolls can get negged into oblivion for starting a commotion. That goes away when they can put it up and take it down 20 minutes later.
Cmon.. Magnus? Really? That dude is an absolute pollyanna... how can you wish ill upon him?
But seriously, there is nothing more enjoyable than seeing Magnus get to a slow simmering boil through his threads regarding
a. Cam Gordon
c. armchair HCs
You forgot the Devin RS. That is his personal fucking Alamo.
Dude, he knows more than anyone. He is a coach you know.
" Voluptuous Vikings" on a Tear in the Pink Division.. Attribute Success to Iceleandic Training and Superior Schemes
Shoot, my Powderpuff team already won the championship by three touchdowns.
Do the exact opposite of whatever it is that Geaux Blue seems to be doing. Sooooooooooooooooo annoying...
For the longest time I didn't know he was a mod I just thought he was being sorta annoying.
I am surprised this post is still up. We should all just walk away slowly at this point.
Yeah, it's a good thing he can't read this thread, otherwise this thread could get really awkward.
I was hoping this thread wouldn't degenerate into personal insults.
I smell like Ricki Stanzis left ass cheek. There, now we can all continue.
that's not an insult. stanzi's cheek smells of america.
don't you want to smell like america? if you don't then you're obviously a terrorist.
are you a terrorist?
Glenn Beck is that you??
(lol joke ppl!! no politics)
EDIT: If I were mod for a day, I'd made that day a one-day politics free-for-all but only for that day, and things would return to normal on the next day.
I think all of his posts regardless of length should be put in the Diaries section so they don't get lost in the MGoBoard shuffle
there's a "Tom" tag on the right side of MGoBoard that does that.
That does not have all his posts and mixes in stuff he only commented on. All his posts are important and informative and I think should be put on top with the diaries
I would institute an unchangable rule that would require Tom to respond to me immediately upon my posting a recruiting question, even if I don't put his name anywhere in the post. I demand immediate answers and he should be monitoring the site 24/7 for any recruiting questions.
make myself a mod for every day.
Double secret probation.
That takes me back.
It'd be a pretty crappy prize. I'd turn it down.
it should be you.
What could possibly go wrong?
Endless threads about kittens and unicorns!
Also, I'd institute a policy where every week we revisit a key thread from the past and make people own up to their posts. In hindsight, who's the douche? Who was the voice of reason? What do they have to say about it now? Anyone who deserves to eat crow but doesn't do it with sufficient grace gets banhammered into oblivion. Also, I make sure they get a dead mouse in their air filter at their next oil change. Because that's the kind of delicious power an MGBlog moderator gets to wield!
