META: Tony Garcia added to troll/no sharing list
It bothers me too that the Detroit Free Press hires professional trolls instead of just covering Michigan, but they're still trolls, and sharing their content is still trolling. I guarantee you will never, ever have to take a thing Tony Garcia says seriously. If your mom is like "Did you see what the Freep said?" tell her you guarantee she will never, ever have to take something Tony Garcia says seriously.

Thank you.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:08 PM ^
OK, what did I miss?
January 29th, 2023 at 1:14 PM ^
Garcia did a "deep dive" on the state of Michigan's athletic department accentuating all the negatives (hamburgers, computer crimes, etc.), ignoring all the positives (players returning, QB coach hiring, etc).
Standard Freep fare.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:16 PM ^
Oh. I read that, and wasn't offended 1 bit. Yikes! We are getting overly sensitive on this site.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
The freep only stays relevant by “breaking news::stretchgate!” and similar bunk. It only limps along because of MSU slappies and UM self-flagellating types. The crossover between Mgoblog and the freep readership should be nil
January 29th, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
I didn't read the article, but in the thread someone quoted Garcia's summation of the tunnel assault, in which Garcia implied that Harbaugh exaggerated it. That's a problem.
January 29th, 2023 at 2:49 PM ^
Seriously, I had to make sure I didn't go to RCMB instead. Next there will be 20 posts about the 'Green wall' and how we need to mobilize against it
January 29th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
Did you purge the troll here as well?
January 29th, 2023 at 1:09 PM ^
Yes he's gone.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:38 PM ^
Wait, there’s only one?! Lol
January 29th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Looked like Idd10 was also Tony Garcia
January 29th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
Tony Garcia is an ID10T.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
I suggest you add to that list the troll who posted the freep link this morning. Review the posting history. Most definitely lives under a bridge.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:40 PM ^
Isn’t this how isolation bubbles continue to thrive?
January 29th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
If someone has legit points they will get them across. If someone is a troll they aren’t worth even acknowledging. Internet is great because it gives everyone a voice, but it is hard to filter out the signal versus the noise.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
Why is there still this wild misconception that you need to listen to people intentionally trying to spread misinformation to be open-minded and balanced. There is no evidence of this nonsense. Go read a book, listen to a podcast, but you don't need to listen to intentional idiots to become informed.
January 29th, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
I suspect most idiots are not intentionally so.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:33 PM ^
Nah, the media actively pursues a clickbait business model, and one of those is deliberately fomenting discord with bad-faith misinformation. Red meat for some, outrage for others. If a site gets 10,000 hits for insightful content or 1 million rageclicks, they'll take the million every time.
Related to this: MGoBlog readers are terrible at walking past poisoned honeypots.
January 29th, 2023 at 2:04 PM ^
Ah, the original Howard Stern model...
January 29th, 2023 at 7:50 PM ^
It goes back way, way before Howard Stern. Look up Yellow Journalism.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:40 PM ^
My experience is a soft 60% are fully intentional
January 29th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
They don't even know they are idiots.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:06 PM ^
I didn’t read the article and don’t intend to. That being said, banning sources makes us look like soft weaklings. It’s not a good look for Michigan fans. That’s all.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:09 PM ^
Haha... A good look for Michigan fans. What does this even mean? Who do we have to look good for?
January 30th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
You should try to look good for yourself if not nothing else.

January 29th, 2023 at 1:10 PM ^
I tend to agree. I don’t agree with banning books or any of those activities and this too seems like a bad idea. That said, I have no idea who this guy being banned is.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:13 PM ^
You’re still free to go the Free Press and read whatever drivel you want. Not remotely the same as book banning in public schools or libraries.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
Well, if a book is banned in schools or public libraries, I can still go and find it at a store or online. So it seems like it is very similar by that standard.
January 29th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
Do you understand the difference between a privately owned website and the government engaging in viewpoint censorship?
January 29th, 2023 at 8:12 PM ^
He clearly doesn’t
January 29th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
I do. The original point was that banning ideas is soft and weak and how you start to create an echo chamber and all kinds of other bad things. That can be done whether it is the government doing it or a private entity. The idea behind it is the same, even if the reach is far shorter for a blog.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:19 PM ^
Sometimes "sources" are just spitting out misinformation in bad faith. The Freep regularly hires columnists for the sole purpose of saying mean things that will get Michigan fans to say "Did you see the mean thing the Freep said?" I don't want to reward them for going for that niche, and I don't want people who come to MGoBlog for legitimate information to be misled into thinking a guy like Tony Garcia will ever be a source of it. If some projecting whiny-ass loser calls you soft for ignoring them, well, keep ignoring them.
January 29th, 2023 at 2:01 PM ^
Alternatively, having the info on Mgoblog so that we don’t have to give the freep a click to find out what crap is being said may be an even better way to accomplish that mission.
January 30th, 2023 at 6:20 AM ^
If you feel like the Freep is a valuable resource, just subscribe and read everything. Given their history with Michigan football, linking to the Freep is sustaining a business model that relies on negativity. You may as well listen to 97.1 radio.
January 29th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
I have now gone to the free press and looked at the article. I have to say, there is zero on there that is inaccurate. At most, he is saying we should get a better explanation from Wards and Harbaugh for these events, he is not wrong. If we get this uptight about questions about our program, we have gone the way of Sparty and then some.
I originally started reading this blog because I appreciated the hard truths that would often come from his posts. The blog did not take the typical fan boy approach and told it like it was, for better or worse. In the last year or so that has dramatically changed. Something I noticed the most in the response from Seth and to some extent Brian when our basketball coach punched another coach on the field of play. This banning shows how far the blog has fallen. I do hope you start to recognize that and can turn the corner.
January 29th, 2023 at 2:47 PM ^
Came here for hard truths? HAHAHA. I love interacting here and getting some good information, but let's all be honest. This is a culty place that has become more of an echo chamber in recent years. This comment will get negged because you're not allowed to be critical of certain things, people, etc. And why would you be? University of Michigan athletics is quite literally the meal ticket for Mgoblog. There is an always growing list of people and sites that aren't allowed and the biggest critics in the past have been banned (everyone here should know the few I am referring to).
So when other fanbases and media types write things that are critical of our programs, instead of just addressing the issues in a thoughtful manner with facts and letting people have their own opinions as a result, they are often just banned or there is a groupthink bullying effect.
Reputations and stereotypes are earned for the most part. This just serves to reinforce those. It's weak at best in my opinion. Yes, I am aware most here disagree with that opinion.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:18 PM ^
Cool, then eat a dick and fuck off. You will not be missed, and clearly you see zero value to this place. Seriously, just leave.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:32 PM ^
And just like that, you prove his point.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
Fuck you, princess. It's not up to you. I never said I didn't find value in the place and if you can FUCKING READ, it clearly says that in my comment.
January 30th, 2023 at 9:21 AM ^
Are you 12 or 13?

"when our basketball coach punched another coach on the field of play." However, this is not only confusing,"this never happened!" But cold hard,"facts" is why you came. There has to be some irony, in there somewhere.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:35 PM ^
It did happen. His inability to throw a good punch is not an issue. In fact, this is my biggest problem with Seth. His first response was to try to make it anything but a punch, going so far as to attempt to make up a new word for it. This is the ultimate in excuse making. Bury your head in the sand and act like it didn’t happen. It is exactly what Penn State did with JoePa, just on a significantly lesser issue.
January 30th, 2023 at 9:21 AM ^
Seth tried to make it about race which is so dishonest.
January 29th, 2023 at 9:43 PM ^
Yeah, the irony is in banning something called the Free Press.
January 29th, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
I've never understood why this is the Freep's angle, but it seems like that's always been the case.
Growing up, I was under the impression that the Detroit News was the pro-UM paper and the Freep was pro-MSU. We subscribed to the News, but on the weekend, when the joint edition came out, I had the "privilege" of reading Drew Sharp troll Michigan. Even then, that seemed to be their thing.
January 29th, 2023 at 10:37 PM ^
As long as people get baited by trolling, it’ll be a viable business model
January 29th, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
If you made this site a Freep free zone that would be ok with me.
January 29th, 2023 at 1:09 PM ^
Det News too. Both are rags. Angelique is alright though. Wish Detroit didn’t have such terrible papers, though I am no fan of most papers these days. In the last year, I’ve canceled my NYT, WaPo, and WSJ subscriptions. Despite not usually agreeing with them on economics, I’ve kept my Economist subscription. I’m thinking about getting Financial Times.
