Moore went for it on 4th twice (I think?). That's not playing scared, IMO. But the plays called themselves were pretty conservative for sure.
November 18th, 2023 at 5:21 PM ^
On rewatch CJ didn’t look for ball till late, appearing to expect it ahead. JJ threw it apparently thinking CJ was turning upfield. If CJ looks sooner he may be able to adjust. That being said, JJ probably should’ve put some air under the ball given how wide open cj was.
November 18th, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
Yes, that thing where CJ doesn't look back is caused the one INT against BGSU. Not sure whose fault that ia, but it is disappointing that the two aren't in sync after 2+ years.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
Not great, Bob!
We were lucky to get the win. Just like Illinois last year.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
I was standing up for the entire second half in surrender cobra form. This offense was HORRIBLE
November 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Offense sucks. We're gonna lose next week unless something changes. Offensive line is terrible run blocking and passing. Play calling is worse of all. JJ erratic. Receivers can't get open.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
Unfortunately, I agree with you.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
For as often as JJ threw into triple coverage, there has to be someone open.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Maryland may be the Terrapins but Michigan is the one that turned turtle at the end. Whatever. We escaped with the win and that's all that matters.
Go Blue! Start on the next 1,000 next Saturday!
November 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
So far Moore has shown he puckers up too much as a HC, our offense has looked out of sorts these past two weeks
November 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
JJ has to play better and the mistakes were more mental than physical so I’m not buying the mystery injury as the reason . Everyone has some injury at this point in the season. Get him right and they’ll beat OSU again.
November 19th, 2023 at 9:09 AM ^
Your physical and mental states are not independent. A physical injury can certainly manifest itself as mental mistakes.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Moore needs to use the cheat sheet from Harbaugh in play calling.
It has to not be so predictable
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Yucchh.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Not great. It’s fine to be a bit worried.
But all that matters is next week. If it’s bad, maybe this week helps tell us why. If it’s good, we don’t care about this week any more.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
My hope is that the team spent some of this week preparing for OSU, knowing today's game is ultimately meaningless. They will need a better offensive gameplan/performance if they want to win next week
November 18th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
Not meaningless at all. Lose this game and you need help to get in the playoffs.
November 18th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
I think they go leave Michigan out of the playoffs even if we stay undefeated. 1. Washington 2. FSu 3.Texas 4. Alabama
November 18th, 2023 at 9:38 PM ^
Ummmm....what? This made me laugh more than it should.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
They hVe 1 week to find answers. Many things were not working today.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Not JJ's best game unfortunately. Throwing the pick right before half and missing CJ on the anOSU special route (which would've been a TD) turned a comfortable game into a rock fight. Barnhart struggled again, so hopefully Henderson and Hinton are back healthy next week.
The play calling felt a little...weird? I think they're still figuring out the best procedures with Sherrone pulling double duty. Aside from the Semaj Morgan sweep TD, I can't really think of anything amazing they ran. Obligatory "saving it for anOSU," so fine. Whatever. Survive and advance.
Go Blue!
1000
November 18th, 2023 at 9:39 PM ^
Hinton is done. You could hear him screaming in pain on live broadcast. No way he comes back from that this year.
November 19th, 2023 at 12:13 AM ^
He’s not really pulling double duty. He coaches the offense and Minter coaches the defense in every game. Harbaugh just chimes in usually. I doubt the games are actually much different.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Please tell me the line will be healthy next week.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
Also, it’s time to start getting Morgan even more touches. He’s a playmaker.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
I'm trying to remember today's game is sandwiched in between a tremendously emotional road win and the game of the century looming next week.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
Not the sharpest this season but they made enough plays.
I hope JJ isn't too banged up.
I'll take it...GO BLUE!!
November 18th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
JJ needs to rise to the occasion next week.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
This O line is scary; and not in a good way 😬
November 18th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Offense seems broken without Harbaugh but you have to give everyone credit considering the circumstances. Time to pull out all the stops for next week.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
Today, the offensive play calling was not to lose. Pretty bad in the second half.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
Mentioned this in the game thread, but JJ still lets mistakes affect his confidence/play. It's probably his biggest flaw. Unless he absolutely lights it up over the next few(?) games, he's coming back next year.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
I know it's only one game, but I feel like we've seen this before: Michigan cruises most of the season, has one or two tough games at the end, then doesn't look ready for the postseason games. I hope that's not true this year.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
We never change
We will be "honing" our strengths for 6 weeks, repeating the exact same things we have been doing since August, while every other team with 6 weeks to practice will break tendencies.
A Michigan tradition.
This team isn't beating Bama or Georgia. Oregon looks troublesome if they get through (Wash I think is a fraud with that defense as is FSU)
November 18th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Not great, Bob! Either Moore made bad play calls or JJ couldn't hit wide open guys for touchdowns. That play call on first down from the 50 in the 4th was brilliant by Moore. But then JJ completely missed CJ down the field. What's wrong with him? Is he injured?
November 18th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
Unfortunately, deep balls where JJ needs to put some air under it so his receivers can run under it have never been something he has done well.
He has trouble with touch passes too. Hence the first bad pass before the INT. He doesn’t have the touch to get it over the defender.
November 19th, 2023 at 12:15 AM ^
His main problem wasn’t inaccuracy, although he did miss some. It was his repeated attempts to throw into double and sometimes triple coverage. He had 1 int. Could have easily been 3. His judgment was extremely poor.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
Felt like that one country song from the 90s, I smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
That was their worst game of the year, obviously, and McCarthy’s as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if last week’s all run, all the time philosophy had a negative effect on the passing game, but there’s no way of knowing that. Meyer did say on the broadcast that you have to keep throwing to maintain the timing of the passing game, which makes sense.I also think McCarthy’s not 100% physically, because he wasn’t moving as well as he normally does. I think Harbaugh’s absence is significant as well. Whatever. They’ll have to be better next week, but a win is a win and a let down this week wasn’t surprising at all. The most concerning thing for me is whether they’re going to be stuck with Barnhart at LT, because he isn’t pass blocking anyone. 164 hours until kickoff.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
Needs improvement. Nothing really good today. Let's hope they show up and show out next week!
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
Last year I got ripped for bitching about the Illinois win..... rightly so I guess. I got ripped this afternoon also.... I guess I'm a very impatient and insecure fan.
But, fuck it, this is a good win considering all the distractions the past few days.
The offense does worry me though. I didn't particularly like the playcalling and I know I certainly couldn't do any better. However the execution seemed quite off today.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
I’m sure they were just protecting him but they are going to have to run JJ at some point if they want to win next weekend. Really missed not having Roman Wilson out there as well, the man just gets open.
November 18th, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
Hopefully they just took Wilson out as a precaution. Because without him, the only reliable reciever is Johnson. Tyler Morris has shown flashes, pretty disappointing that Clemons hasn't done more this year. We need Wilson next week or I just don't see us making enough plays through the air.
November 18th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
If we were going to shit the bed in a game, better this week than next. Hopefully that's all out of our system now.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
I’m just here to say I was completely terrified for the last 2.5 hours.
Go Blue.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
I suppose this game proves that Roman is a big piece for this offense. He is arguably the only threat to attack the deep without any setting up for the play to develop.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
Johnson certainly got wide open deep, and JJ missed him.
November 18th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
That was a play action. My point is that Roman is the only one who can get open deep by himself. If a WR can’t get open on a hard PA, that itself is a problem.
