Mark Stoops will NOT be the next Texas A&M Head Coach

Per Thamel on Twitter, who I will not link, Texas A&M will not hire Kentucky Coach Mark Stoops.

Is Michigan's own Sherrone Moore a target? Not sure he's quite there yet, and there are other potential programs, with UCLA allegedly opening up soon. Maybe Michigan extends Moore a 'head coach in waiting' offer given his resilience over this season.

Ha ha ha. All SEC teams already have their own PI firms. Day will sure have more slush money to pay players, more than he did in OSU. But he will have his teeth kicked in every year by other SEC teams. Besides, SEC teams are not going to play ball like B1G teams would to gang up on a team.

Fisch has set himself up for a good gig. The work he's put in at Arizona is excellent. I'm so glad MSU hired Johnathan Smith and not Jedd Fisch. Fisch at A&M might be a good fit.

TAMU could get Third Base if they want him. But I'm betting they don't. Even in the state of Texas you need to beat your biggest rival.

Texas A&M fans were largely in revolt last night.

Now, I am sure they haven't the foggiest what to think, if this is the case.

It's funny to watch another team, especially one that truly seems to believe that money alone will solve the problem, go through this actually.

IIRC, every one of the “head coaches in waiting” has gone on to coach… somewhere else.  Frames was one of them, right? It never works.  It is just a clue to other schools “you REALLY wanna hire THIS guy.” (Which they all already know with Coach Moore)

I don't know what's going to happen in College Station, but Stoops is 56 and already makes $9M/yr at a really cushy gig.

I think a lot of people are rightfully wary of the A&M job.

As for Moore, I fully support whatever he chooses to do. If he feels the time is right to strike out and step up, great. If he decides to hitch his wagon to Harbaugh a little while longer, that's great too. He has earned it all

I can't say it in enough ways. A&M needs to make waves with a hire. You don't pay a coach $77 million to go away unless you plan something major. Stoops, great coach, but not what A&M needs.

I know he’s said he has no interest, but the obvious choice for TA&M is Urban Meyer. The oil-rich Aggie boosters won’t give a damn about Meyer’s ethical issues, and Urban can rehabilitate his reputation after his debacle in Jacksonville.

This seems like the most logical end to this.
The only other path I could see being acceptable to that donor base would somehow pry Mike Gundy from Ok State or hire a top coordinator from Alabama or Georgia.
Even getting a guy like Liepold from Kansas or Elko from Duke seems like a stretch for their expectations.

Money runs everything in College Station. If Colorado hadn't had their epic second half collapse this season I think Deion would have been a serious candidate. He knows Texas, can recruit, and won't be bothered by the millions of dollars handed out to his players by the rich oil boosters. But it's clear he's not ready for a job that big yet. I'd say Urban and Kiffin are the best choices, and maybe Hugh Freeze if the other two both decline. I was scratching my head last night when it was reported Stoops would get the job, he was not the right fit there. Think they dodged a bullet, for now...

I hope Day gets the job and he takes Brian Hartline and Larry Johnson with him. OSU is still recruiting at a better level that us, so that trio needs to either leave together or break up like the Beatles.

How can this be? just yesterday, we had posts that two click-bait-rumor mongers on the interweb had declared this would be so. Now we have one that denies this? /S

I really don't know who A&M will turn to.  There are not a lot of prospects out there.

As for Moore it would not be a bad thing for him (assuming JH is staying a long time) to go get his feet wet running an entire program from top to bottom.  Being a substitute for a few weeks on game day is very different than being the CEO for 365 days a year.

This is not me saying I want him to leave but Lloyd Carr was a one off and a very veteran coach by the time he took over; Moore is a risk we don't really know what he would be like as a HC full time.  Would like to see whomever is the next UM coach have a history of you know ... head coaching.
