Lunch with RichRod

Submitted by rastafari on
I have the opportunity to have lunch with RichRod on the 1st. Anyone have any insightful questions they would like to pose?

1.) Who is Michigan looking at to fill the season opener in 2010? 2.) Is there any changes in offensive philosophy from last year? 3.) How is the defensive scheme working out with players and depth? (BTW, what is the new scheme? I didn't make it to the spring game.)

i doubt you'd get a candid answer on this - but i'd be curious to know if the deluge of offers he's throwing out to (seemingly) everyone is a product of his time at wvu and not being able to be very selective. or perhaps its just how he does things regardless of what school's logo he's got on his shirt.

Does it take his wife to get ready in the morning? I bet she doesn't take as long as my wife who needs two hours to get makeup, hair, clothes, etc in order. And then ask him if he'd be able to handle the year round regime he puts in place for his players if he was a player today?

...if he's going to forever hold Metrodome in a special place in his heart, since it's probably going to be the only Big Ten stadium where he'll never lose a game.

I think it's reasonably likely (or at least 50-50) that he never loses at Indiana, or even at Northwestern, since we don't play NU again for 2 years and things should be running smoothly by then.

1.) What does he think of Brian Cook's little operation? 2.) If he had the choice, would he continue expanding the stadium, perhaps even to the fabled upper deck? 3.) What's the single most significant thing he's learned about the Michigan fan base since taking the job?

RichRod? is that you? I knew it!! I knew you were here ol' pal! What I don't get though, is the avatar - were you in a rock band in high school? Did you have the requisite mullet? Is being in a rock band your real dream and hence you are just biding your time as the head coach of one of the biggest college football schools in America?

Don't even bother with recruiting questions.....you know he can't answer that stuff unless it's real general. I'd love to know why we're vacuuming up all the WR's in the country but I'll bet he'd shy away from that question so as to err on the side of caution regarding the rules. Me, I'd ask if he's got any desire to get rid of those terrible tramp-stamp-stripes on the away uniforms and go with something a little less trendy and XFLish.

1. Ask him about the significant changes he's making from his past offenses to the one at Michigan. 2. Ask him about how he feels about the new defensive scheme.

Ask him how far away we are from consistently competing for national championships. Does his past success in BCS games bode well for our future of actually being able to win Rose Bowls consistently. Compare and contrast the Big East and the Big Ten in terms of competitiveness, fan base, hysteria, depth of talent, etc. how fast is ESS EEE CEE speed exactly? Like, is it Denard fast, or Tate fast?

• Since college football is characterized by a constant evolutionary struggle between offensive and defensive schemes, does he expect that at some point in the future that he'll have to greatly modify if not abandon the spread as he knows it? • Are the defenses he sees now fundamentally different than what he faced when he first implemented the spread? If so, how? • What's the one attribute he fears most in a defense? • Are WVU crowds louder than Michigan's?

Ask him how many times a week he checks this blog. This is a strategic approach - rather than asking him if he has heard of this blog or ever looked at it, your assumption that he reads it will of course make him think "hmmm, if he automatically assumes I read that blog, obviously I should be reading that blog". Then he will obviously start to read this blog, and then all our arguing and talk will not be for naught - we will actually have the influence over the program that we (again obviously) so much deserve! And the program will be so much the better for it!

• Does he ever want to run over UM students with his car? • Does anyone on his staff correct his spelling mistakes?

You want to burn one in the basement? if he says yes afterwards I go to "Do you know you are entrusted with the one ring that rules them all and that the fate of middle earth hangs in the balance?" If he says no, I go to "so who do want to welcome in for the 010 opener?" and work up to "What the fuck happened before the Purdue game with the defense last year?" ...Or maybe just look into his knowledge of the Yeats and Shelley and report back to us.
