[LOCKED] OT: California's Travel Ban

It forbids state funds to be used to travel to non-LGBTQ-friendly state, including Texas and much of the South.

Doesn't this apply to their coaches' recruiting in those states as well?

I guess UCLA and Cal would be the most relevant (to Michigan recruits and fans anyway) as Staford and USC are private.

Not that they can't invite out-of-state recruits for visit, and there isn't plenty of in-state and regional talent to keep them busy.

Still, I wonder if something like this applies to them, or if there is some sort of work-around, as it says "state funds".

MOD EDIT - Take an evening off the blog and.....yeah, we're locking this because some people cannot behave around these issues. - LSA

Exactly but I would say "leftists" rather than liberals. Real liberals are actually open minded, mostly sincere individuals. Leftists on the other hand are disingenuous assholes who blame all of their problems on race and sexual identity. As MLK said himself, we should judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. He's probably rolling in his grave right now listening to all this bullshit. Sorry mods...

It's not entirely clear where MLK would have been on LGBT issues if he were alive today; however, it's somewhat comical to see the folks who likely would have been vehemently against his agenda trying to champion his so called positions. You probably use the term social justice warrior in a derogatory sense; MLK would have been called one in his time.

This isn't bout the bathroom bill, it's about increasing restrictions on LGBT community from adopting kids. Do you not think that's discrimination? Because, in that case, infertile couples shouldn't be allowed to adopt either. Because science said they can't have kids, right?

Exactly, way to go! What sort of stand do you want anyone to take that has no risk or no sacrifice in it that's going to make a mark?

Isn't the point to take a stand for what's right even if it's going to cost you something? Isn't that always going to be required in order to make change or fight for or protect people's rights?

Just an FYI, the ban against Tennessee went into effect in February.

UCLA told the state to go fuck themselves because their athletic department funded itself and went to Memphis anyways during March Madness. So it shouldn't really change anything for them.

It'll hurt the smaller schools like San Diego State (possibly Cal? I think their AD uses some general fund $) because there's no way the NCAA starts pulling events out of Texas like they did with North Carolina.

Also as far as recruiting trips, they can get private charters to go but they can't rent a car or a hotel with their university card. Again this hurts the little guys the most who don't have big donors.

Keep in mind this is a state wide ban for all public employees and sports probably weren't even considered. There might be some clarification coming now that Texas and big money are involved.

Nah, I didn't word that very well. It's more about the timing of it.

This upcoming final four is in San Antonio. There's a College Football Playoff game in Dallas next season. There's already way too much money invested, advertisements negotiated, and not to mention what it would cost to breach contract.

North Carolina, on the other hand, was a first round of the tournament. Much easier to relocate and a very small cost to avoid negative PR.

I know you're a person of high integrity and moral fiber and that your principals wouldn't possibly change if it turned out to be you in the other shoes.

Therefore, if it were Mgobloggers or some other group or type you are a part of that faced extreme discrimination, violence, abuse, ridicule, a hostile system and more, that was encouraged by much of society, and the problems and issues were ignored or disdained or reacted to with anger and hate, then I'm sure you'd stand on the same principals if California stood up for your rights and you'd argue against them on the grounds that it might "hurt" some poor football teams recruiting.

Nobody can argue about your priorities in life, that's for sure!

I mean what's more important, creating a society where you don't have to be X times more likely to be killed in a hate crime than the average person for being who you are, or protecting the right for small unknown football schools that lose money on football and take it out of the tuition of the entire student body, most of whom don't give a shit about football? Clearly you have a keen eye to spot the real victims and put your concerns where they really matter!

You're kind of a hero!

You, are the problem, but you can't handle the truth! You're everything that's wrong with the world. If only you'd melt away into the sewer.

that's absurd. It's because these states are continuing to discriminate against a group of people who are still marginalized in today's society. It seems to me like the real snowflakes are the people who back the bathroom bills, they are too scared to share a bathroom with something they don't understand. Also when you call people snowflake you don't sound clever, you just sound like an asshole

As a former resident of California I think the state should be worrying about a lot more important things than that (perhaps one being all the businesses that have left for Texas).

California's economy is just a hair under twice as large as Texas' economy. To put it in comparative terms (that actually fit quite well in terms of economic composition, too), California is almost exactly the same as the United Kingdom, and Texas is (slightly smaller than) Brazil.

What if Texas wants to put restrictions on states that they see as non-gun owner friendly states? Or New York wants to put restructions on states who don't continue to adhere to the Paris Climate Agreement terms? States are going to disagree on things. Seems like we've got better things to do than get into a bunch of internal pissing matches with each other

What a country we are living in today. Progressive, liberal, moderate, conservative, and no matter what if we don't like you, we make sure to let you know it. No attempt to have discourse just an attempt to see who's metaphorical dick is bigger and piss on those who you find inferior.

Bacon, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and mayonnaise.  Dammit don't forget the mayonnaise.  Sexual excitements aside, I love this state but our politicians are pissing it away.  There are so many natural advatages it's hard to screw it up, but leave it to Cali politicians.

Before the topic gets locked

They want to impose a travel ban on states that dont see eye to eye with them on political issues but go BEZERK about a travel ban that would keep untraceable immigrants from terrorists states into the US?

Honestly If they vote to leave the US  Theyd be doing the other 49 states a favor
