Letter to the president

Submitted by meechiganman14 on

I've been meaning to send letters to the big wigs at UM since the Minnesota game, but just now have some time to do so. I actually think the timing maybe better now anyways as the the firestorm of the Morris incident has subsided without changes made and we need to keep the pressure on. I'm focusing my letter on DB as the president is more directly responsible for him and Hoke's record speaks for itself. I just want to make sure I get as many of our grievances down as succinctly as possible. Here's what I'm focusing on:

1. The consisent raising of prices and general feeling of gouging the fans which has led to the disappearance of the season ticket wait list.

2. Student season ticket policies

3. Sky writing incident, which Brandon labeled a "miscommunication"

4. Coke incident, which Brandon labeled a "miscommunication"

5. Morris incident

Am I missing any other major public relations gaffes? I'm not concerned about stuff like the noodle and music in the stadium, as I feel this sort of stuff is unfortunately par for the course in college football.

If people like, I'll be more than happy to share what I write so that you can copy and paste and send your own letter once I'm done.

Probable mild concussion was a real medical diagnosis. Even Brian Cook said so on the WTKA a couple weeks ago. You may not like the term but it is the real diagnosis and not some weasel term you are trying to say it is.

Despite his interesting background and credentials, DB in his current role seems like a turd polisher above all else. He seems to believe that impressions can be fully manipulated by smart guys like him.

Basically this whole post is incorrect. There are 3 grades of concussion, with one of the being termed mild. Also, it can often not be determined if concussion occurred so the term "probable" is used. That is why the phrase was used.

Of course, you can say he was lying and that it was a more serious concussion which none of us know that is the case.

The fact that Brian went on WTKA two weeks ago on Sam's show and said Brandon should not be criticozed for the use of that term since it is real should mean something given how Brain has criticized DB.

Forcing out what made Michigan great. Putting in people of his style is his right, but shows that this decline is all his fault. Treatment of Victors club members. Renegging on promises and perks afforded to them. Seat cushions. Biggest issue is trying to coerce medical staff into calling it not a concussion. He should hang for that alone. Interview the M.D.s involved.

I'd combine 3 & 4 and add the bean.  The important thing is not each individual act but the dishonesty and irresponsiblity afterwards.

The broad point is that it's just embarrassing.

I'd concur with above that the other thing is the arrogance.  Brandon isn't U of M.  He isn't even the athletic department.

Stop. Just stop. The tea leaves -- the president's legalistic parsing, Brandon's low profile, the regent's displeasure -- STRONGLY suggest that Brandon is on his way out. Let the president do his due diligence and tend to priorities. The university comes first. Football isn't even second. Priorities.

Understand that academics come first and are the number one priority but honestly I'd rather see Michigan win Big Ten championships and national championships and go back to being one of the top football programs in the nation than rather be one of the top academic schools in the nation

If you're going to write such a letter,  I would mention some of these incidents but drive the message with how these things have shown the AD to be disconnected from the larger mission of the university and that the AD has not reflected the values of the university in its endeavors. Not sure if you'll get more than a form reply, but I think if you connect everything with the reasons why the culture must change, it could be impactful.

Nickel's worth of free advice: Keep it really, really short.  Don't kid yourself into thinking Schlissel will read some manifesto.  Tell him the program is losing your support, fit all the reasons why onto one or two lines or at a maximum short bullet points, tell him what you want done, and above all else be succinct.

Schlissel's not going to read anyone's carefully crafted letter and think, "well, I've just been convinced."  He's seen it all and knows it all by now.  The more time it takes to read, the less likely he is to read it.

but isn't this  approach to insignifigant, too late? Laying out the grivences seems like repting a theme I am sure he hears about ALL THE TIME since he took his job. [ Of course, is d-bags with this attitude (like me) who end up letting themselves get boned with out complaining.]

Having said that, I would include a bit about the personal impact on you and your family, and communicate why Michigan football is important to you and how it has impacted your history. From that base, I would demonstrate how the tradition of Michigan football has been sullied by over commercializaiton and obtuse arrogance.

I think a personal touch may be more impactful than laying out what I am sure he already knows. I wouldn't worry as much about naming every single major slight and instead concentrate on weaving a couple into a narrative. That seems like a better approach to me.

A few things come to my mind.. 1. Morris incident should include the 1am press release, as it does not look like the right thing to do. 2. His interview where he focused on the pain for himself and his family. 3. His lack of accountability and not taking responsibility for Morris incident. 4. Gibbons issue and the lack of transparency. 5. Hiring a football coach and making him one of the highest paid in the country, without a good resume. I am questioning his lack of knowledge on Athletics itself, that he is supposed to be able to do. I am sure the job description of AD would include proper evaluation of talent and he miserably failed. How much impact your letter will have is a question mark. But thanks for trying. Good luck.

Don't forget - he won't let paying customer bring in water bottles.  That's why I will never attend another game.

Please include the bullshit way they handled giving up a second home game vs MSU in hockey!!!! I as a avid michigan hockey fan and season ticket holder was down right pissed at the way they ad waited until the Monday AFTER renewals were due to announce we were giving up one of the top two games of the season to play our IN STATE rivals in Chicago......
