Las Vegas - who is going and where should we watch the football game?

Submitted by Beaublue on November 15th, 2021 at 8:53 AM

Looking forward to a trip to Las Vegas to see the basketball team in action.   Sounds like Michigan should have a good contingent of fans.    Where should we meet up to watch the football game on Saturday?

FYI there’s still a mask mandate in Vegas. Which is why I haven’t booked my March Madness trip yet.

edit: This is nothing political! I just don’t want to vacation where I have to where a mask everywhere. I wasn’t trying to start some kind political debate about whether they’re necessary or not.

Sorry I should have explained. This is nothing political! Vegas is a fun town and I just don’t want to go until Vegas is back to normal. Wearing a mask everywhere sucks and it really sucks when you’re trying to vacation and let loose of a few days. I wasn’t trying to start some kind political debate about whether they’re necessary or not.

There's a certain portion of the population that has an automatic reflexive (borderline robotic) response of "Shut up and stop complaining!" anytime someone says anything as regards masks even slightly degrading an experience.

There are costs involved in months (and years) long mask-wearing.  It is legitimate to point out it is not a zero-cost activity.

Various sociological research has quantified the "rough percentages" as regards how we as a species express emotions to each other:

60% Non-verbal.

10% Verbal.

30% Vocal, the tone and pace, et cetera of the verbal.

Non-verbal communication is a part of how we as a species "talk" to each other.  Masks reduce that.  That is a "cost."

--------------

As a tangent --- consider message board interactions and how people are judged on a message board in the context of the above.

NONE of us really "know" each other or fully communicate with each other here.  Yet, there are posters here who definitively are convinced that another poster they interact with is the devil and a terrible person.  But any interactions between 2 such posters is strictly "verbal" - typing out words.  E.g., only 10% of the actual puzzle.

I live in LA and you technically need masks indoors here but that just means you wear one on your way into the bar/restaurant and then take it off.

I can't imagine it's any different in Vegas.  Like fine, you wear one on your way into the hotel and in the elevator but you're not wearing one at the gaming tables or the sports book or anywhere else where you can be drinking (or eating) and socializing, right?

So, eh.

And if I'm wrong about the practical implications would be curious to know, but it's Vegas.  Can't imagine it's more strict than LA.

Right - the enforcement in Vegas (I was there in mid-September) isn't overly strict and it's inconsistent.  Sit down at a playing tables, yes.  At a sports books, no.   At a bar, hit or miss.

The logic, as usual, isn't exactly the best.  Masks required at the blackjack and poker tables, but then eat dinner at the steakhouse, no mask.  You're just as close to people at both places.

Got it, thanks for answering my above question.  Surprised they're requiring at the tables.  Are they disallowing drinks at the tables then?

The logic around restaurants is that you can't eat with a mask on.  And eating is an important human function so obviously need to take off the mask to eat.  And also you aren't sitting next to strangers at a restaurant like you are at a gaming table. What makes for exponential growth is family to family/party to party transmission  That's what you want to avoid (because you're gonna give it to the people you came with anyway, the key to to make sure you don't give it to another party that will then later give it to their whole family/party).

Something something something what about my freedoms something something something don't tread on me. Am I doing this right?

Hey, its your money and you spend it how you want. I just hate to see people cancel vacations over something as trivial as masks. I certainly wouldn't let it ruin my good time, but that's me.

Exactly. I fucking hate the masks, have from day one. So I just don't go where it's required. When I heard they would be required at Crisler and Yost I decided I won't go to those games. People can look at me sideways for this, just as I look sideways at people who say they have no problem wearing masks with no end in sight. It's just de-humanizing for me, and I'm already anti-social enough. Different strokes.

Only caveat is outside. If you're wearing a mask outside there is something wrong with your head.

Yes, staying home is the more responsible choice but it's also overly extreme and the costs are immense.  If wearing masks gets you part of the way there, at a tiny fraction of the cost, that's the logical, economical choice.

"Pandemic enough" isn't binary.

That said, I don't think the upside of masks is very high anymore.  The cost is also extremely low (for adults in the situations they're being asked to wear them) so I'm not gonna get outraged about it but at this point it's like the TSA at the airport.  Kind of just there to make people feel a bit more comfortable (about something they don't need to rationally fear anyway).

Good luck watching at a sports book without paying at least $100-$250 for a diner style chair. You can forget about it on a Saturday or Sunday or if you want a recliner (was generally $500 mínimums for recliners at the on strip sports books this past weekend).

There are free seats in a lot of places including Caesars, Flamingo, Mirage and many others.  They are not La-Z-Boy recliners like you get at the places you DO have to pay cover charge.  But they are regular padded chairs and fairly comfortable.  My only advice is to get there early enough on a football Saturday (or Sunday) to claim a seat.

I'm watching the game at Maryland Stadium.  They have a cover charge too - I think it is about 80 bucks.

Not sure about the basketball game.  I don't think I can stay up until 2:30 in the morning.  I may have to DVR it and watch it first thing in the morning before heading to the game.
