Lane Kiffin Treachery

Submitted by EGD on

As we were informed by a true genius yesterday, offensive wunderkind Lane Kiffin’s recent appearance at a Michigan bowl practice proves he harbors secret thoughts of ascending to become the Wolverines’ head someday.  Yet a South Carolina newspaper reported yesterday that Kiffin also visited Will Muschamp this week and took in the ‘Cocks!

This is very disturbing news that raises many difficult questions.  Perhaps Kiffin considers Michigan long-term marriage potential, but wants to have his fun with South Carolina first?  Perhaps Kiffin professed his love for the Michigan program on his visit with Harbaugh, only to be rebuffed—and Muschamp has, in the words of Sir Mix-a-Lot, “pulled up quick to retreive’em?”  Or perhaps Kiffin is a sinister double-agent, spying on Michigan and passing along their secrets to the Gamecocks?

Notably, The State article points out that Kiffin will remain in Tampa the entire week leading up to the Outback Bowl.  Could there be more Kiffin drama still to come?  It’s something to watch for as the days tick down to the opening Gunn.

1) Pretty sure FAU just signed Kiffin to a 10 year deal. While I can't imagine FAU is shelling out big bucks for him to stay, there will be some kind of buy-out for him.

2) Not sure if your post was serious or not, but considering how badly he tanked at Tennessee and USC, both P5 schools, there is a track record for him doing poorly at that level. Maybe an eventual change of scenery will help, but history suggests it won't. He may also like a low-pressure environment like FAU. After dealing with a total hard-ass like Saban for several years, he may be relishing in being the alpha dog down at FAU now. There's zero pressure there to do anything more than field a competitive program, and as long as he's okay with never competing for a national title there, much less winning one, he's got it made.

How did he tank at Tennessee? He took over a 5-7 team and got them to 7-5 and the defense was looking great, things were on the up and up and he bolted on them. I’ll give you the usc job didn’t end well but he took over when the sanctions started and when 8-5 10-2 7-6 2-3. It’s not the greatest record but remember it was with sanctions

Harbaugh is not leaving Michigan anytime soon.  And the chances that Lane Kiffin accepts a demotion to OC at Michigan with lower pay than his current head coaching gig are zilch.

With how Michigan pays the coordinators, this might not be correct.  I'm willing to bet Michigan might pay him twice as much to be OC than what google reports as his salary from 10/2017(950K).  His contract extension news also said he took a pay decrease to be a headcoach at FAU from the OC job at Bama.

At any rate he'd seemingly be an upgrade from what we have currently, but I'm sure the FAU job is just a stepping stone to get himself into a P5 school somewhere in the near future.

I would take him as our offense coordinator in a minute over the play calling I just watched for 22 games.

Also this is protocol in that coaches always visit other coaches or practices when there in there town to shoot the shit.

Last year I was in Arizona watching ASU play 2 separate times w full access to locker rooms and team functions and Chip Kelley was there one week and Rick Neuhisel was there another. I've seen it many times.

I’m calling this now: as a longtime resident of San Diego, it has always baffled me that San Diego State doesn’t produce a much more successful football program. They were pretty good this year, 10 wins, and have produced some first rate talent over the years, think Marshall Faulk. They have access to a TON of High-school talent, it’s a huge beautiful city on the beach, and is an easy school to get into that actually provides a decent education (not on par with the traditional California power teams though) that is the tough equivalent of MSU.

Lane Kiffen will be offered this job in the coming years, and if he gets it, watch out.

Classic case of too much too soon making someone cocky and uninterested in how he is perceived by peers and observers. If he had started his career at FAU and worked from there, he'd probably not be seen as anything unusually offensive in people's minds rather than some kind of caricature.
