Kind of OT: has anyone else been getting completely pegged for no reason lately (MGOPOINTS)?

Submitted by bouje on
Because I did like 5 posts in the past 2 days I went back and looked at all of my point totals for them and the biggest I found was -5 (which whatever) but my total went from +160 to +97... I'm sorry but this is really starting to get to me the blatant manipulation of peoples points and I know that I'm not the only one.

Does anyone else also feel the urge to give any poster that complains about getting down-voted a down vote? Not that I have ever done that... yet.

I'm talking about blatant manipulation of the system. I haven't posted shit lately therefore my point total shouldn't go down 100. Maybe it's just me or maybe I have flawed logic or something or maybe I'm just an idiot. (All of the above anyone?)

can put a person on a low self image and have devastating psychological effects. Its like teasing fat girls.

I lost a point for responding to a post by saying "Why?". I thought that was pretty funny. Apparently someone didn't appreciate the philosophical nature of the question.

through every single one of my posts and down-voting me. Which is stupid childish and frankly I think that Brian should moderate how many down-votes that someone can give someone in any given day or something. I understand if someone says something stupid and people down-vote that one comment but people shouldn't be able to just say "Well I didn't like his opinion on this one post so I'm going to screw him over for everything that he writes let's go through and down-vote every one of his posts". This kind of thing should be frowned upon and discouraged because I don't think that this is what Brian wanted in the system. ***EDIT*** And I'm probably going to get killed for writing this post but I feel that it's a serious question with the point system.

a box of chocolates. Well, not really. Actually, not at all. But, if you are dissappointed in your mgopoint totals, and it is negatively impacting your ego and behavior you should probably just go ahead and kill yourself. Hopefully, you haven't reproduced yet.

you say you just joined., but your ID says you joined last april.

not sure how you received 26 Mgopoints for posting a link about a year old story.

and I think M go  points is one of the problems with the site.......people post worthless crap just to accumulate points........and then neg people who dont agree with them.

thank god we are done pretending we cared about the World Cup.

...the ways:

  1. You complained about MGoPoints in a thread that abounds with examples of why it's fruitless to whine about said points
  2. The obvious sarcasm in the post you chose to criticize sailed over your head
  3. You criticized MGoBlog's soccer coverage even though it's an editorial decision of the blog's proprietor and there are in fact, many folks here who do care about the World Cup
  4. You complain about worthless crap and provide exactly that

I have come to the conclusion that you are much like this cat.

I'm not gonna do it, but the starting of a forum thread to complain about negged makes it REALLY tempting to neg you. You're over 20. There's no difference between being +21 and +1400. You get the same shit.

Here's to hoping the mailman brings us decoder rings and a free quart of MGoSchnapps. On topic, I haven't seen enough abuse of the system to be concerned, but there are occasionally down votes that completely mystify me. I'm afraid these are vendetta votes, as the OP suggests. That's not cool.

of all time. Especially when he kicks Sid Farkus' ass with his green teeth! On topic though I agree at times that some down votes make very little sense.....but what makes even worse sense is bitching about it. Uh oh bouje, don't look now but you said you had like 100 points......you are in the neg now dude. Guess this wasn't such a good idea huh? Here's a +1 for you just so you don't actually kill yourself.

Are you that guy who used to have the signature line: "Lache Seastrunk, the future" ? I'm not trying to be a dick. I've negged you a few times and I feel kinda bad about it, you're probably pretty young. If that is you, then I'm pulling for you to come along. I can't remember the old username

I've actually been personally pretty pleased with the system. For the most part, I haven't seen many posts where people were getting killed (and by that I mean more than a -2 or -3) without good cause. One comment I made, I screwed up and posted bad facts and I took the hit for it. The system seems to be keeping most people honest. Then again that's just my epinion. (EDIT: Just before I posted this bouje was at 105... in the time it took me to write it, he's now at 76. Ouch)

It seems unlikely that you are getting these negative points for "no reason". And if you're constantly getting pummeled over innocuous posts just because you have a reputation or something, then maybe it's time to fold up "bouje" and start over?
