What happened to SI is the same thing that’s been happening throughout the print media world: corporate honchos know that a great way to cut costs is to jettison all their experienced staff writers and photographers and instead “contract” out the work to poorly-paid digital freelancers who have no retirement or medical benefits, and frequently no real journalism skills, education, or training, either.

Needless to say, the corporate honchos giving people the axe don’t see any commensurate reduction in their own paychecks.

Assuming the games he played in were early enough in the season and that he actually applies and gets M to provide information that would factually support the appeal it would probably be granted. I've seen one article that suggest he might be interested in returning but I've seen nothing saying that he has actually applied. He may be ready to move on to the next phase of his life, but if he does return, I don't think there is any question that he and Harbaugh would both want him at UM.

Not a big fan of Spath. He speculates guys that haven’t played a lot will hit the portal and then says we need to be shopping the portal as well. If we return Kemp plus we have Dwumfour, Hinton and Mazi, I doubt we are going to be looking too hard.

Would not shock me to see Patterson get a 5th year as long as Ole' Miss sends over the medical records.  And with Lane Kiffin there, I think the attitude towards Harbaugh would be supportive ... I recall they are coach buddies.

Shea is not eligible for a medical redshirt.  His 3 games played in 2016 were after the midway point of the season. His only possible path to eligibility would be to somehow have the any 4 game rule retroactive to 2016, which seems unlikely.

When did Carlo start playing basketball?  Is this a move from JH to counter Illinois' Cockburn with a bigger body than both Teske and Davis can gen up?

Has JH given permission to JH for Kemp to head over to the bball team?

Alas, SI rides smoldering dick, anymore...

That article mentioned Jeter and Paea maybe going to transfer portal, and that we will be shopping on it. Thats boldly refreshing to hear someone write that...I know it is bad form to say a kid will transfer but to come out and imply both will likely means it has weight....

Not sure about Jeter leaving...he plodded but he was coming off knee tear and maybe it take 18 months to come back from it, because I recall Harbaugh hyping him.

There was hype all over preseason.  But back then Michigan also had Ben Mason starting at DT.  When he actually got into games, I thought he looked about as bad as one can look.  Close to zero get-off, pushed around, no short area quickness.  Speight played ahead of him.  Sure he's young and lots of things can change, but the limited amount of data on him is quite poor.

Obviously joking. But in all seriousness the guy came in as a LB. Making him a 285 pound DT has been pretty incredible.

He should be a run stopping SDE or a pass rushing DT next to a NG the size of a planet.

Paye - MAMMOTH, 2nd team all conference run stopper - Kemp - Hutch dominant DL.

Imagine that line and then in pass rushing situations taking out the huge NG, sliding Kemp to NG, Hutch to DT, Paye to SDE and putting in a guy like Uche.

We need more natural beef!! Give us a couple of guys that have to watch their weight. Onwenu types. The give us the project NG that starts at 275. And finally the 300 pounder that has to drop weight in order to add "good weight" so he take a couple of years.

4 NGs...that's it. Even if they can only play 33% of the snaps it's worth it.

yeah this would be big time with Mazi and Hinton ..hopefully..continuing to get stronger and more technically sound.  Could be a nice DT rotation

And why wouldnt he not want to come back, another year to gain more weight, get stronger and possibly ball out next year to become a draft pick.

Get on that healthy weight gain program stat

We need Hinton and Smith to start and Kemp to shed that artificial weight and play OLB where he belongs.   Not a fan of bulking up smaller framed tweeners.
