Jordan Kovacs on Lott Trophy Watchlist
Per Adam Rittenberg, Kovcas on the the preseason Lott watchlist. Good for him.

I love Kovacs and would love to see him keep making the lists and they slim down throughout the season, but as much as it pains me, I see this as being about as close as he gets to winning that award...
a Lott.
I see what you did there...
lotts of luck
Always wondered if Kovacs would be better in a weakside LB spot but since we're not exactly depth-filled in the safety world, I doubt we'll see that experiment.
I think he might be too small to play at LB, but he might be able to read run/pass better than some of our LBs.
Yeah, Kovacs would get destroyed as a linebacker. If he was 6"3, 230 he'd be a multiple-time All-American.
exactly.
Ronnie down anyone with the ball.
See. Now that he is getting good coaching, the awards are starting to stream in. Kovacs is the next Ronny Lott cept he hits a little better.
Jordan is a great young man. No sure if he will start next year, let alone win a prestigious award, but it won't be for lack of effort.
Kovacs will tell you he owes everything to RichRod when it comes to playing football at Michigan and he will defend RichRod and the old coaching staff for the rest of his life.
Fred Jackson IS on this board!

You're being a hater.... just sayin.
the exact process by which these watch lists are put together. Please tell me it does not involve a Google search.
Well, since you take a google search out of the equation than, I won't say anything at all...
you are basically on the watch list.
Not to take anything away from Kovacs, but I know Ronnie Lott and he is no Ronnie Lott.
No Mike Martin?
I think I'm on that list too.
With all due respect to Jordan, isn't the list quite lengthy?
EDIT: It is not, as I just opened it. Nothing to see here.
There are over 30 names on the list.
Love me some GRITvacs
"The honor recognizes players who excel both on and off the field and reflect the following values (IMPACT): Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity."
Love the guy. Congrats.
If that list included GRITTINESS, then the watch list would be one name long: 1) Jordan Kovacs.
But I'm trying to figure out how to fit it into the acronym...
TENMPACT
It is very possible that Kovacs will not have a place on this defense. Too small to play LB'er, too slow to play safety. I think he could play in some schemes if he is surrounded by athletes who can cover his liabilites. There is no doubt in my mind he is technically one of the most sound players on the entire defense. I really enjoyed his football IQ. Hopefully, there will be a role for him on the team even if it is not every down.

I think Kovacs has enough speed to play SS in a 4-3, especially one that's focused on stopping the run first. His experience, solid football instincts and tackling ability will get him on the field.
Think back (ok don't think back if you don't like pain) and there is a lot of recent Carr-era history of safeties who weren't really very fast -- Ernest Shazor and his 4.7 40 say hello.
I could see him coming out on third down in nickel and dime packages, but that reminds me -- who exactly is going to replace him?
WIth all due respect to Kovacs, a 4.70 is generous. Also his agility is questionable.
As for starting. I doubt he will for the whole season. RR had a soft spot for walk-ons because he was one himself and Kovacs did fit the Bandit scheme well. In true 4-3 Cover 2 he doesn't fit well. Go back to 2009 when they had him at true strong trying cover half the field. It ended poorly resulting in more cover 3 to take him out of those situations. Look for guys Marvin Robinson, Thomas Gordon, and maybe Furman to unseat him by the end of the year.
Taking one of them out.
GO BLUE!
I am just saying....
Seriously though, Good for Senor Grit
