Twitter lied to me. He's on right now.

listening now and it seems I missed Mr. U, what did he have to offer?

Bakes said that Brandon's support among the Regents breaks down along party lines. The six Democrats want him gone. The two Republicans support him. So, bad for Brandon, good for us.
October 15th, 2014 at 5:39 PM ^
That's interesting. But "Bakes"?
October 15th, 2014 at 5:42 PM ^
It's actually his nickname. It's a hockey thing.
October 15th, 2014 at 5:53 PM ^
I thought hockey nicknames are all about the "y" sound at the end. Is that just the Red Wings? Ozzie, Stevie Y, Shanny, Chelly (Cheli? Chelli?), ...
October 15th, 2014 at 6:22 PM ^
Or kind of "pluralizing" the first syllable of their name. "Drapes" and "Malts" for Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby.
October 15th, 2014 at 7:32 PM ^
is ALWAYS the nickname of the chubby guy.

Call me pathetically naive, but how in the holy hell is this a party politics issue?
October 15th, 2014 at 5:47 PM ^
...the composition of moon dust becomes a partisan issue.
October 15th, 2014 at 5:53 PM ^
For the record, I think moon dust is composed of whatever Section 1 doesn't think it's composed of.
October 15th, 2014 at 5:55 PM ^
Guy is currently sending an angry FOIA request to NASA and the Smithsonian as we speak. The moondust is not what it seems!
October 15th, 2014 at 5:57 PM ^
Section 1 was fine with moondust until Title IX got involved and messed everything up.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:08 PM ^
Do I get my 5K jacket in the mail or do I have to pick it up somewhere?

Negged in hopes of getting you below 5,000 so that you can experience the joy of getting to 5,000 all over again.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:11 PM ^
you're a pal.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:15 PM ^
No problem. Now if you don't mind downvoting me 7,300 times, I'd appreciate it.
EDIT: Upvoted to get you closer to 7,300 points so that you have enough points to do that.
October 16th, 2014 at 7:44 AM ^
remember the Bellomy Nebraska game? I said it was pretty clear to me that Hoke was in over his head......didnt even have a propper #2 QB to back up injury plagued Denard.
I love seeing people with tons of MgoBlog points who post trivia or their own personal inside joke dialogs......because if you dont toe the party line here, you get neg bombed.
Not my fault I saw Hoke for a clown years ago.
October 16th, 2014 at 9:53 AM ^
Does the MGoPoints meter go to 7 digits? You're only 494 downvotes from finding out. so tempting...

That's no joking matter to us Darksiders (which ironically is not how I break along Jedi lines).
October 15th, 2014 at 5:49 PM ^
Brandon is a big donor in GOP circles.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:53 PM ^
he is also a big wheel in the party. i would not be surprised to find out that the two regents supporting him owe him a favor or two.

I think that the regents are all 1%ers FWIW
October 16th, 2014 at 12:53 AM ^
yeah, those six Democrats include an Ilitch and a Bernstein.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:26 PM ^
Have you not been watching for the past 20 years? It's an opportunity to claim the scalp of a big name from the other side, pols of either party will jump at that.
October 15th, 2014 at 8:48 PM ^
October 15th, 2014 at 9:11 PM ^
Well, Denise Ilitch already kind of did, at least as much as I'd expect from somebody in the role of a Regent.
October 16th, 2014 at 12:01 AM ^
Regents don't say much about the university, they never have, they don't have to and it's not very conducive to how they and others want the place run.
October 16th, 2014 at 9:05 AM ^
That's definitely why it's very interesting to hear their comments come out regarding Brandon. That public meeting where they shot down the fireworks and essentially slapped DB was quite enlightening in seeing their stance on the way the Athletic Department is being run.

Yeesh. No one is saying this is a completely partisan issue.
At the same time, DB's party affiliation and one-time (and perhaps continued) political ambitions are well known. It's not surprising the two regents affiliated with said political party would probably support him in the face of what should be a rather unified front against an astonishingly unpopular Athletic Director.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:00 PM ^
If they have half a brain each, they'll put up a fight just long enough to say they tried to save their buddy, then cut him loose. If I'm a Republican in Michigan I do NOT want to be tied to this guy going forward.
October 15th, 2014 at 6:25 PM ^
... are their interests aligned with the Universities. DB is a power player in the state GOP, even if unpopular currently with University students. If they betray him here, and pretty much admit he is a failure, it will ruin his political career and may also ruin the regents political careers.
At the end of the day, they will stick with him, and have a united front so it mitigates the long term fallout.

October 15th, 2014 at 7:58 PM ^
... what I was thinking. Cold, calculated.
October 16th, 2014 at 9:59 AM ^
that makes sense. I hate politics.

October 15th, 2014 at 9:58 PM ^
applies equally, yes?
October 16th, 2014 at 8:00 AM ^
that Brandon's business-oriented approach would naturally appeal more to Republicans than Democrats? Why the need to look for conspiracy theories?
October 15th, 2014 at 10:42 PM ^
Handing an athletic department should transcend party affiliations. He's a failure no matter how you slice it. Time to cut the losses and move on.
