Jeff Goodman Mock Draft 2.0: Stauskas and McGary both to Suns
Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Jeff Goodman released his new mock draft here ($) http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/mock/?season=2014&version=2&sourceId=3&preview=true
Goodman has Stauskas going to the Suns with their first pick in the first round at 14, then has Phoenix grabbing McGary at 27.
Also has Noah Vonleh at 6, Gary Harris at 10, and Adreian Payne at 21. Has the Pistons grabbing Tyler Ennis at 8 (and my Cavs taking Douggie McBuckets at 9).
would be the best move of the draft, right there.
Phoenix WOLVERINES
You say that as if somebody out there wants Jennings and his contract.
how tradeable he is at this exact moment, but with only two years left on his deal they'll be able to move him at some point between the 2015 trade deadline and the 2015 offseason. Ennis isn't exactly a sure thing either, so having both for half a season or a full season wouldn't be the worst thing. Would be okay with me because it would mean Will Bynum is probably out.
there would have been an opportunity to take care of the point guard position before this. Oh, right.....
Where does he have him?
And he doesn't have GRIII in the first round
He'll probably be like Timmy and come on strong in workouts. Someone will get all flustered with his jumpy-dunkyness and spend a 1st round pick on him
He went through the eval process and I bet those people know more than Jeff Goodman.
they will give him the ball and say "now go up strong" and he will glare at them with a puzzled look on his face.
Phoenix is a good up and coming team, they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league and almost made the playoffs in the west (their record would've been tied for 3rd in the east). Would be fun to see Stauskas and/or McGary there
Goran Dragic is a magician.
Goran MaDragician, amirite?
do you believe in dragic?
I want them all to go to Utah or NY
I look pretty good in purple.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really want the Pistons to draft Mcdermott. Let Monroe go to FA or do a sign and trade, put Josh Smith at PF, and Mcdermott at SF.
to Smith at PF if the Pistons can get a good return for Monroe. Smith's offense isn't anywhere near Monroe's level, but Greg is an atrocious defender. I think moving Monroe is the best way to improve the team here and now, because what's anybody going to give you for Smith after the season he just had? Just a matter of different philosophies.
McDermott is a great college player, but can anyone explain why he would be different than Adam Morrison in the NBA?
is a much better shooter than Morrison. The year that Morrison burst onto the scene he shot 43% from three. HIs other two years in college were 31% and 30% and he never shot above 33.7% as a pro. McDermott is a career 45.8 3P% shooter on more attempts per game. So even if McDermott struggles inside the arc like Morrison did when he got to the NBA where he couldn't match up athletically, he'll have a skill to fall back on, unlike Morrison.
They're very different players. Morrison was a ball dominant, mediocre efficiency, high volume guy who was a solid jump shooter but not special in that regard. McDermott doesn't need the ball to be effective, is an absolutely elite jumpshooter, and is much more versatile on the whole offensively than Morrison was.
Defense will be an issue. I don't expect his post game to translate super effectively, and his finishing might be an issue against bigger players. But his shooting isn't going anywhere, and he's special in that regard, hard to see him not being an effective off ball scorer in the NBA. If that's worth the defensive issues is another conversation, but I think you can do much worse in the mid 1st.
Perfect fit for both of them. McGary's got the motor and the passing for that offense. It almost goes without saying for Stauskas. He could jump in and be the third guard behind Dragic and Bledsoe with his skill set. Though I am a bit surprised to see McGary in the 1st round, I thought with his injuries and missing a season he was a sure second rounder.
Sad to see GRIII isn't there, but not surprised at that one.
With all of the Michigan people in PHX, that'd be great...and I'd actually watch an NBA game.
Can one of them go to the Clippers please? I'm like 80% on that bandawgon and having a recent Michigan guy (in addition to Jamal Crawford) would make it all that much better. GRIII to the Clips would be a good fit because they're an athletic team that likes to run and dunk, and SF is a position they don't have a bona fide guy.
If they both went to Phoenix I'd spend money to see them play (living in Phoenix) occasionally and watch the Suns on TV plenty. That'd be weird initially b/c I kind of can't stand Suns fans.
McDermott. What a disater that would be. Two straight wasted drafts.
I think Stauskas will be gone by then, either the Nuggets or T-Wolves. It seems like Nik, Harris and Young are somewhat interchangeable across mock drafts. I think it's going to be:
11. Denver - Harris
13. Minn - Nik
14. Phoenix - Young
Probably good fits for all three teams.
I would like to see the Raptors drafting Nik. Toronto deserves a Canadian star, and Wiggins and Ennis are too good for the Raptors' pick.
As for Mitch, definitely the Denver Nuggets...
Or the Seattle.....dammit. You're right, definitely the Denver Nuggets.
he has them taking Amadou Ba and with their second pick he has them going with Graham Brown.
...but I want Stauskas to go to the Thunder.
He's literally the best player on the entire board for that team and a PERFECT fit for what they do.
the Bulls so he can learn what defense is under Thibodeau. That would really help his NBA career and the Bulls need a player on their roster that can score, it's a win-win.
The Suns are one of the more exciting teams in the league, Stauskas and McGary both seem like they'd be pretty good fits there, could always use more shooting, and McGary's rebounding would be much needed. I'd love to be able to watch a few of my favorite college players play alongside the guy in my avatar.
I was hoping the silver lining of the pot thing was him sliding to the Pistons in the second round. Not that they're smart enough to take him.
Assuming the Pistons do draft 8th, it's a really bad year for them. They need guards and pretty much everyone projected as being worthy in the top ten is a forward/center except for Smart and Exum, who will probably both be gone.
Tyler Ennis is not worth the #8 pick in the NBA Draft. Sorry.
