Jayru Campbell Plea Deal
Jayru plead guilty to a misdemeanor, aggravated assault. He has to undergo psychological counseling, take anger management classes and apologize for body slamming the school security guard.
I think it was a tough case for the prosecution to pursue since there is a lot of sympathy for Jayru (judges and juries tend to feel bad for those who come from rough backgrounds) and it would be tough to win a felony conviction that could potentially send him to jail for up to 10 years.
From Jayru's perspective, this puts an end to this chapter and hopefully, he has learned his lesson that you can't assault another person, period. I hope Jayru learns that everyone makes mistakes, but it's how you react and learn from your mistakes that makes you into a man.
It's a good result for MSU as well, who may look again at pursuing Jayru (and in my opinion, I feel that he will end up at MSU down the line).
Under a plea agreement, Cass Tech football standout Jayru Campbell will be able to avoid a criminal record if he is able to complete a youth probation program, a Wayne County Circuit Court judge ruled Friday.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny agreed to a plea deal between Campbell’s attorney and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to sentence Campbell under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act in the case in which Campbell admitted to assaulting a school security guard in a body-slamming incident Jan. 22, which was caught on video.
“It doesn’t have anything to do with you being a good athlete,” Kenny told Campbell on Friday.
The judge told the teen it is because of his family situation and background.
Campbell, 17, had been charged with felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, which was dropped under the plea agreement. He instead pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, a misdemeanor. Under the original charge in the case, Campbell could have been sentenced up to 10 years in prison.
The sun now revolves around the earth because I've heard multiple rumors from anonymous sources.
I will hence ignore the facts regarding heliocentricity within our universe.
but that was such an egregious example of an unprovoked and vicious assault that I'm very skeptical that this will be the last time he's involved in the criminal justice system.
Glenn Winston all over again?
I had seen an edited, shortened version of this before...not this whole piece.
I can't decide which is more disgusting - the actual assault, Jaryu's stomp and look at me taunts, or the taunts and reaction of the other students.
"Knock knock...."
REALLY? Knockout game?
He's already hit a guy in the handshake line and now this...MSU can have him.

Two things from the audio on that clip. First, the sound of the thump. The security guard went down hard. Second, a girl screams "Jayru!" as he stands in front of his victim.
I especially like how Jayru scampers backwards when the security guard gets up to go after him. Now that's a real man taking ownership of his actions.
Three cheers for the legal system. No criminal record? Apologize personally in court? Anger management classes?
Dantonio pulled his offer? Looks like he's still a commit there. The next qb for the dean of discipline.
Hope he makes the most of this chance.
I'd be really pissed if I were the security guard. He suffered a vicious attack for simply doing his job. If it were me, I'd want Jayru Campbell to receive the full wrath of the law (as a minor, not the bs where they often find some loophole to charge kids as adults), not some slap on the wrist.
Counciling and anger management classes.....what a joke.
MSU has already taken a commitment from a higher rated kid at QB. With O'Connor, Cook, and Terry already in the fold and coming back there's no way they're taking on Jayru.
I'd like to believe that MSU will part ways with Jayru, but their obsession with beating UM is far too great. Come bleed or blister, he'll end up on their team.
You don't have the slightest fucking idea what you're talking about. The obvious fact that you're completely ignorant about Bo Schembechler does ignorance a disservice.
That need to be addressed. If not and if this represents his normal personality, then he is in deep shit.....as is whatever community he is in.
I do suspect he'll wind up someone pretty soon; I figure MSU will get some buzz but I have to think that ship has sailed.
wow what a joke. does the guard need to be a drooling permanently handicapped mess in order for people to hold this punk accountable for this actions? community service and counseling for agg assault? he did not get into a scrap with another kid where both parties squared off and acted like kids...he brutally attacked an authority figure / officer in the middle of his public school. if they really want to wipe his record and give the kid a second chance (or third or fourth since by all accounts hes a punk) then lock him up for 90 days min where he must complete the counseling etc and signed off prior to release...then wipe his record and allow him to move on. "growing up rough" has become acceptable justification for agg assault? wish i were born 70 yrs ago, this is pathetic. and it just gets worse every day. legit crimes warrant legit penalties, period...otherwise whats the point?
Hopefully he'll get the help he needs and be surrouned by good influences in his life. The odds of that happening are not great based on the fact he's never had positive influences in his life but his story is just on of many millions in the black community that has been absolutely devastated by the break up fo the black two parent family and the replacement of the family by our all benevolent Government agencies. Until there is a cultural and political change in the severly disfunctional black community, don't expect any changes. The race hustlers will never let their money train stop running.
