Jaguars hire someone NOT named Jesse Minter as DC

Submitted by MightyMatt13 on January 22nd, 2024 at 5:50 PM

The Jags went with Atlanta DC Ryan Nielsen to fill their DC opening, just days after "reports" suggested Jesse Minter was their top candidate. Those reports were from Sam Webb, who did say it was Jesse's job if he wanted it... so I guess there's some possibility he turned them down.

One more off the board.

Minter and his family might off just fallen in love with Ann Arbor and the community.  Who knows what’s going on in his head but it’s not always about money or titles for some people.  Hopefully he stays.  That’ll be huge for us.

Its kind of crazy when it was Harbaugh at UM everyone in the media rails on about his "cheating" and "scandal" and all of that. When he is up for an NFL job none of them say a word or possibly critique a team that may be employing a cheater soon. Curious how that narrative goes completely fucking silent if it means he is on his way out of Ann Arbor.

It is all bullshit of course but the ESPN writers seem ok with Harbaugh the cheater possible going to one of their NFL teams. Nobody from the October/November writings has issue anymore with Jim Harbaugh huh? Curious indeed.

I think there are only four possibilities:

  1. Jim Harbaugh stays as head coach and Jesse Minter stays as DC
  2. Jim Harbaugh leaves Michigan, and Jesse Minter stays at Michigan in some capacity
  3. Jesse Minter leaves Michigan to coach somewhere else
  4. Jesse Minter doesn't coach at all next year

I think that about covers it.

Minter's got lots of options. He could end up DC for Harbaugh if he's coaching an NFL team or for the Ravens if Macdonald leaves for a head job. I'd guess him not going to the Jags means he's holding out for one of those to happen. And if neither does, he can come back to Michigan and look for a great situation again next year. He's only 40

Seems like the odds are fairly high that at least one of Jim or MacDonald land a head coaching job in the NFL.

If it’s Jim, Minter is a no-brainer to join his staff.

If it’s MacDonald, that opens up the Ravens DC job as well as being a seamless fit on MacDonald’s staff.

If BOTH get a head coaching job, that’s three DC spots that make a ton of sense. In addition to being an attractive candidate for any of the other new head coaching hires.

Or Jim comes back and Minter stays too. So… could be anything

My pure speculation, assuming he likes working with JH: if he wants to go to NFL, seems like he’d also want to follow JH bc he’s a known quantity as a boss.

Maybe, just maybe, Jesse declined the job because he wants to build a dynasty with Jim at Michigan.

Besides, we all know that Jon Gruden is going to destroy the NFL so why would anyone want to work for a broke league?

Trent Baalke strikes again, no?

Same douche that was in higher management with the 49ers when Harbaugh was the HC.

Same genius that thought selecting Travon Walker #1 overall over Aidan was a wise move.

I'm willing to bet Harbaugh had a 'chat' with Jesse Minter as to what to expect from Trent.

Here's hoping. Still a long way to go though. Probably 1st choice in Baltimore if MacDonald leaves and 1st choice for MacDonald wherever he goes. And don't sleep on Eagles. And that's assuming Jim does come back.

Yeah I saw that. My guess is they will have an offer for him before he steps out of the interview. I think they want to strike while the iron is hot. The question is...Will they let Coach Harbaugh have full control....I know they recently denied Kellen Moore a chance to interview for the Bears OC role...So is that Spanos saying "we want you as our Head Coach..... but.....we also want to retain our current OC"

Things will start to move fast starting tomorrow is my guess.

I'm sure they realized that Minter needs a few more years at Michigan before he has the skills and experience to move up.

Sam admits he's not nearly as well connected to the NFL scene, as compared to college football.

Also, I think Minter stays with JH, whether at M (for another year anyway) or in the NFL.

JH supposedly has 2nd interviews with both Atlanta and the LAC this week.

I'm curious about Washington and why there's been no news of a JH interview there.

I live in the DMV and I dont believe Baltimore generally would be considered part of it. I mean technically Charm City is in “M” but then again Richmond and Va Beach are in “V” and neither is part of the DMV.  Baltimore is juuuuuust outside what normally might be considerd the DMV

And the WFT Commodes are probably hiring one of the two young OCs.
