#1) Michigan is NOT Jim Harbaugh's 'dream job.' He wants an NFL job, because him and his brother are so competitive. SD, SF, Oak and Car (and maybe even Dal and Min) are all going to be fighting over him this off-season.
#2) Dave Brandon is going to be doing absolutely everything he can to convince him to come to Michigan over the next month.
#3) In all likelihood, Rich Rod will be brought back (signing a two year extension after the bowl game), and Greg Robinson will be replaced (along with the 3-3-5). Ron English is supposedly an early DC candidate.

I've been wondering about this. If Harbaugh goes pro this year, then it probably would have been a bad move to hire him, since he would be demonstrating that he, you know, wants to go pro. If he stays at Stanford and M ends up firing RR after next year, then what have we lost? Other than then energy it takes to e-scream UNACCEPTABLE ten thousand times, I mean.

His value may never be hotter than right now. What if Rich stays and has a great year? Then Harbaugh is never getting the Michigan job and may have missed out on some other great opportunity and passed on some cash. Can't think of it that everyone should just wait until when and IF we need them.

and this shouldn't even be debated.. if rich stays, he returns 19 starters, and Junor Denard (zing) + Dee Hart = TotallyEpicOmgUnstoppableOffense!
plus a solid year of in game experience under the secondaries belts all come down to a great season and becoming a solid competitor for the big ten crown!

These coaches have f'd up a lot of things these last three years and their judgement in many cases has been very questionable. You really trust these same coaches to be able to maximize what's returning next year?? I don't.

that these coaches can maximize our returning talent than I am that a new coaching staff can come in and hold this team together and not allow Michigan to spiral out of relevence for 3+ additional years.
These coaches turned around the offense. Give them a year to see what they can do with a defense that finally has experience and depth.
And explain the questionable judegement comment? Are you talking about taking a chance on a guy like Dorsey? What would you do as a head coach with your job on the line, knowing that your defense, particularly your secondary, is going to struggle because of lack of talent, and you have a chance in the 11th hour to land a blue chip prospect? If I'm that coach, I think it's more risky not to take the chance.

Good football coaches (Harbaugh) coach a football team. RR coaches a scheme.
Just because RR came in and turned Michigan into a rebuilding project doesn't mean that Harbaugh would. There is some talent on the roster and Harbaugh would make the most of it. He has coached both the spread and pro set before so he has shown he can adapt his offense to his talent, something RR couldn't do.
Arguing that Michigan will be irrelevant for 3+ years just because we are switching coaches is a ridiculous and baseless argument.

The justification is that Harbaugh has succeeded in a power conference (sorry the big east does not qualify as such). He did so at Stanford where it is harder to recruit both because of academic standards and resources. Rich Rod did not succeed in a power conference and while he didn't have the resources at WVU, he had much less stringent academic qualifications for his recruits (Demar Dorsey could have played at WVU).
Succeeding in the Big East doesn't nearly correlate to succeeding in the Big 10. Just for the record, this year's Michigan team likely would have won the Big East considering we beat the Big East champion soundly and looked completely superior in doing so. Did you ever think that maybe even Rich Rod's WVU Big East championship teams wouldn't have done so well in the Big 10?

But I think we would be making a huge mistake to not see what this coaching staff can do with experience and depth.
If Hardbaugh comes in, there will be decommitments. There will be attrition. He will install a new system and there will be growing pains associated with that.
If my gut is wrong, and the defense doesn't improve significantly, I will be the first to admit that the experiment has failed.

I totally understand Harbaugh's side, and agree with you on this (that's 1 out of 794 recently, so there's a chance we can see eye to eye on some things). This is his year to make some kind of leap. I foresee a post-senior Luck regression to the mean next year, and I'm guessing he does too (not sure about the rest of their depth chart). Anyway, I care fuck all for Harbaugh unless and until he is our coach, so I was arguing from M's side.

And I don't disagree with you. We in no way should make a decision based on Harbaugh's feelings. I just don't think the idea that he should be beholding to wait at your heels, just IN CASE there's an opportunity is the way he can look at it, and it doesn't make him a guy who "never wanted to be here anyway" if he takes a pro job because the M job wasn't offered to him (and may never be). Which the other poster was basically saying.

If the Michigan job is not available next year because we bring RR back, and he really wants the Michigan job, then he should wait.
If RR has a great year and stays, then JH is no worse off than he is now. If he wants to go pro, there will easily be jobs open.
This is our decison to make. If JH says "take me now or I am going pro", then he should just go pro now.

Even if he comes to Michigan I think that he still wants to go pro. I would take for granted that he would spends about 3 years here then be off to the NFL. I don't have anything to support it, but I believe that he views the NFL as the destination for him as a coach, not college. Even if that college team is Michigan.

I think the whole saga of Coach Rod getting fired is pure media hype and nothing else. You see when one thinks about a Football Program one has to think long term.
To be very honest, Michigan has been one of those programs which has never stumbled in the past so it is very hard to see such a thing happening to us. I think until last year we were all pretty mad that we were not being able to make it to a bowl game. I understand that we have some bad streaks against rivals but we should also realize that its been that one time only.
I mean c'mon even GM went bankrupt once. There was a time when GM issued centenary (100 yr) bonds. The thing to realize is that we have regained momentum. We are back to be a wining program and our march will only move forward. Since we have never been through this phase we really don't know what patience is.
Our offense was explosive this year. People were wary of our offense and stopping Denard is still a big threat to any of those teams. We have faced a lot of injury/depth problems - for which we cannot blame anyone specially not the coach. We were lucky that Denard inspite of being knocked several times was always starting. He never was injured which was a blessing in disguise.
We need to be patient and believe that not only will we win a bowl game but also be a much better program next year and the coming years.
My prediction for next year: 11-1 next year.
We will beat OSU and State next year. Mark my words.
All great programs go through a bad phase: Texas is, Florida is and OSU will soon also. It's all a matter of time.

Trust me, I know people" and our fan base goes berserk. Before this diseased elephant dick of a writer made this story up, our Uncle Jimmys and Joes were the only strong voices with the inside information that RR is getting canned sometime after every single one of our losses this year. What's changed? For the past few years, our fan base has stood together on very few issue but the one thing we had in common is that we hated newspaper writers like whoever the fuck wrote this article, why all of a sudden are some of you listening to what he has to say?

How does a dying enterprise attempt to stave off death? More drama, more lies, more BS. Not more news. Because they forgot how to do "news" a long time ago.
Ignore those freaks coming out of the closet at the Detroit Newspaper Agency...their scribblings no longer have value to you or me.
