It's over, we made it, hallelujah. What did you get?
We had a wonderful, if stressful and utterly exhausting, Christmas. Midnight mass was beautiful and everyone avoided talking politics. No serious arguments, stabbings, or other shenanigans.
Now I'm wondering what everyone around here got for presents? Were your gifts to others well received?
My son got me a Michigan baseball cap, which just happens to fit his head perfectly. Mine not so much.
December 25th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
I finally got my “Michigan” in Cyrillic shirt, from my father in law.
Pretty stoked.
December 25th, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
Got a juwan Howard bobble head to put next to my super soaker one of beilein. Now the kids will have a new person to call bobble head guy.

Some paint to go up on the drywall I installed! Also a Ditto looper pedal so I can jam with myself.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
That's a solid gift, paint is expensive. I scored some HD gift cards from the inlaws. Thinking about a new kitchen floor.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
I got a PornHub subscription so I can jam with myself
December 25th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
Lol any chance the drywall was acoustic drywall, maybe something like QuietRock? I'm thinking of doing some sound proofing of my shared bedroom wall...
December 26th, 2019 at 7:46 AM ^
I had no idea that product existed. I'll be needing A LOT of that for the next house.
December 25th, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
I got a stress ball and a stress wrist band from my future parents in law.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
This seems like a red flag.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
I got a hammock and EnChroma sunglasses (I'm color blind). It wasn't one of those sobbing videos, but it was pretty amazing to see red for the first time.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
I took their color blindness test online but it said my eyes may be too broken for their glasses to fix. Would be very curious to give it a try!
December 26th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
The biggest shock was what red looked like.
I've always seen red as this very dark color. I was unprepared for how "red" red is.
I'm not sure how else to describe it. It was like seeing 3d for the first time.
The crappy part is that there's not a lot of red around outside right now.

Do yourself a favor, and don't wear them to The Game in two years. It will make you cry.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Bought myself some new Orvis fishing waders, as my present from from my wife.
When you have a joint bank account, gift giving between spouses loses some of its allure to me. “Look what I bought you, with your own money!”
I like our pragmatic approach - pick out exactly what you want and call it your present.
Merry Christmas!
December 25th, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
So where are you gonna use those waders? Head out to the PM for some winter steelhead? Weather couldn’t be better for it
December 25th, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
I love that river but I don’t fish it any more unless I’m in a drift boat. I lose some enjoyment when I’m competing with so many other anglers for spots. I think I’ll get out the centerpin and target some of the other worse-but-less-pressured waters that West MI has to offer.
December 25th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
That’s why you need to go out in the winter, usually pretty lonely. But I am partial to the Mo or just heading up to the Jordan where there really isn’t anyone
December 25th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
My wife and I tried out allowances for each of us and we love it. We can buy whatever the hell we want... as long as it comes from the allowance. No more squabbling about salon bills, or the price of my new Gore-tex waders. Gifts for each other come from allowance too.

I got some cool new board games and some Disney gift cards. Woo-hoo!
December 25th, 2019 at 9:38 PM ^
We had an uneventful, 12 hour 45 minute drive back home. Left c-bus under the cover of darkness and got home to good old Newton, KS at 4:20 PM...I'll take that as a gift. Otherwise, at age 66, I pretty much have no gift list...can buy most everything I need/want.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
We still haven’t opened gifts yet. I think this is my punishment for always waking up my parents REALLY early. My son’s just not excited about getting gifts. Odd boy. He slept in until 10:30, church was at 11:30, and then it was off to my cousin’s for Christmas dinner. We might not open gifts until tomorrow depending on how long dinner lasts.
December 25th, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
I have never heard of a boy who didn’t want gifts. How old is your son?
December 25th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
15, but he’s always been that way. He just values sleep above all else, except video games.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
Buy him Video Games...he will wake up sooner. Works at my house.
Go Blue!!!!

Part of my gift from my dad was a betting ticket (he was in Vegas last week) for the over on the Michigan /Alabama game as I told him on the phone before that that I liked the over on the game (I didn’t tell him I already bet it on my offshore account ;) )
feels good to be done with Christmas though . I always like the week between Christmas and the New Year to relax , watch football, but also get some stuff done before the new year begins

Ironically my boss actually did get me a jar of Jelly....
Apparently 1 per month is too expensive.
If only I had a crazy cousin living in a run down RV to help me out.

A tranquility weighted blanket from my wife. Helps calm people with stress, anxiety, autism, ADHD and PTSD. I guess I better make an appointment with my primary care doc.
December 26th, 2019 at 7:42 AM ^
You sound paranoid, maybe hop under that blanket until that goes away

Still at the in-laws so not done yet. Die Hard marathons help. Big gifts I received were shop vac and random orbital sander. Gifts I gave were original pieces of art by me (photography) framed in frames I made. Since its all for family, of course they like that kind of thing. Plus all the random crap my wife bought them.
December 25th, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
Oldest son, 9, woke us up shortly after 4am.... ready and excited to open presents. Spent the next three hours trying to get him to stay quiet so he didn't wake up 5 younger siblings. Once everyone woke up we had cinnamon rolls. I got to learn what "we" bought all the kids right along with then as they opened their presents. My wife got me a new insulated coffee mug (need a LOT of coffee around here) and some fancy Garmin watch that tells me 1000things besides just the time, but I have no clue how to use. Also got some new supplies for the grill from the kids. Bought Mrs. Jumbo a remote starter for her car, which she was pretty stoked about and a few other small things. Kids loved all their stuff and it kept them busy most of the day. Life is good

I got this gift the first Christmas Harbaugh was hired as our coach. I've been hanging it on every Christmas tree since. I'm still waiting! I think our next best chance will be 2021. Washington looked good and I think we will lose on the road next season. OSU of course will beat us on the road. I'm sure there will be one more loss in the mix. Another 9-3 season in 2020. I'm thinking our starting QB will have an entire season under his belt in 2021. Our defense will probably be better in 2021 as well. I have high hopes for 2021 at 11-1 with a win or OSU, B1G championship and a playoff appearance.

I didn't get nothin'. I had to pay fifty dollars and pick up the garbage.
(Is 'Alice's Restaurant' a Thanksgiving song, yes or no? Please start a new, useful thread to express your opinions.)
But seriously, folks, I got to spend another Christmas with my wife. Twelve months ago that wasn't a sure thing. Twelve months from now isn't a sure thing, either, but it's looking more likely every day. Yay for chemo pills that make her nauseous, constipated, neuropathic, weak, and with painful joints, but keep the cancer from advancing. Best Christmas Ever.

For whatever the points are or aren't worth, +1000 to you, and also my prayers for your wife and you, her loving hubby.
And an additional upvote for your "Alice's Restaurant" reference.
