I can't help but wonder: …

I can't help but wonder:  How will NIL impact the transfer portal?

One would think if the NIL deal is facilitated by a company affiliated with an alum of a specific university that the terms might include verbiage preventing or at least reducing the likelihood of a player transfering.

On the other side,  will schools offer more lucrative NIL deals under the table as a way of persuading an athlete to transfer to their school?

Ironically my boss actually…

Ironically my boss actually did get me a jar of Jelly....

Apparently 1 per month is too expensive.

If only I had a crazy cousin living in a run down RV to help me out.

Congrats! I've got an almost…

Congrats! I've got an almost 4 yo and another on the way in March.  One of the most challenging but by far the most rewarding experience of my life.

Hang in there, the tough times are worth it.  The toddler years are a blast!  As long as your raising them Michigan fans your doing it right!  Go Blue!

The most important thing now…

The most important thing now:  Beat Notre Dame.  Go Blue!

Please No! Please dear God do not let this happen!
Two Hearted Bells Two Hearted and Old Nation M43. Only Michigan beers tonight! LET'S GO!!! GO BLUE!
Yes Please! Yes Please!
Oh Canada Duplicate post, sorry. Mobile is tricky.
Oh Canada Go get Canada to pair with Enos. Hopefully Enos is not being hired as more than a position coach, but if he is, and if Jimmy still wants multiple OC's, Canada needs to be the other.
Agree. Completely agree. Curious as to who we would target though. Preferably someone known for creativity and innovation.
MSU Night Game

Normally I would be completely against having the MSU game at night, but this year I'm all for it. My cousin (who I am considering disowning for this) decided to schedule his wedding in Columbus of all places the day of the MSU game.  I would skip but my son is the ring bearer.  A night game gives me a fighting chance I can get back to AA in time for kickoff!

Georgia I am getting sick of Georgia.
I'd love to have him, but I'd love to have him, but unfortunately it appears your comment is irrelevant as he is likely heading to Bama. I am SO sick of Bama.
He's going to Bama. He's He's going to Bama. He's been trolling the M fans and coaches this whole time. I get trolling the fans, as annoying as it is for us, but lying to or misleading the coaches is totally bush league. ICYMI, he's still in Texas kickin' it with Bama recruits per the Twitters. I am so f'ing sick of Bama and OSU dominating recruiting every year.
I feel for the kid. I feel for the kid. I can't imagine the pressure of having millions of crazy adults (myself included) watching and criticizing your every move.
It's classless both ways. If It's classless both ways. If he has actually made a decision the right thing to do is let the other coaches know. He's not that naive, he knows both schools are waiting for an answer. Maybe he has let them know by now, or maybe he truly doesn't know yet, I'm just offering my opinion on the matter.
This whole thing just seems This whole thing just seems beyond odd to me. If the kid didn't want the attention why wouldn't he just confirm he is stinking with Bama? Maybe he didn't know as of a couple days ago, but if the rumors are true that he made up his mind and booked his flight, why would he not let Michigan coaches know. Sam said they didn't as of today. If he just decided to go to Bama and not let the M staff know that's a pretty classless move IMO as M has no contingency plan because they believe he's coming. If this is indeed a massive troll job (which it appears to be) he's trolling the coaches as well as the fans. That said, I'd love to have him in this class!
Long Day All of this recruiting talk (both positive and negative) has worn me out. I say let's all just have a drink and enjoy the ride. Go Blue!
Trained Monkey To be fair, a trained monkey WOULD be trained....
Section 35 wasn't much Section 35 wasn't much better, but having spent time in both, you have a legit gripe. Can we start requiring auditions? Or force anyone who brings a cowbell to the big house to take lessons in the summer?
Amen. Go Blue! Amen. Go Blue!
I am also joining the ranks!

I am also joining the ranks!  Stoked to finally be able to make it to the Big House every fall Saturday, and even more stoked to take my son to games as he grows up.   I just wish they would let me get more than 2!  Go Blue!!

Bells I've had several Bells Two Hearted throughout the day (golf, etc). It's my go to when necessary. Now I'm settling in with a nice glass of Pinot and hoping the Tigers get it together. Go Blue!!
Go Blue!

All around great game from start to finish!  I couldn't ask for a more entertaining way to waste a few hours at work.  I love college sports ( aside from the obvious corruption, etc).

Hopefully it's enough to go dancing!  GO BLUE!

Gold

This is pure gold!  Well done Brian!

Hilangryous?

I'm not sure whether to laugh at the hypocrisy or be angry about this....

WOOHOOO!

So thankful for everyone here to celebrate with.  I am surrounded by nothing but the enemy at work.  GARY!!!!!! WOOOHOOOO!

Some Insight

I won't claim to be a football genius by any means, but I do coach 8th grade so I can try and shed some light.

Thing #1:  To simplify, your point indicating the defense selling out is the most likely cause.  It is mostly system and or play call dependent.  Run defense is largely gap based.  In a base 4-3 for example (I realize this isn't what M runs, but this simplifies it nicely) the DT's may be responsible for A gap, the ILB for B gap, DE's for C gap, and OLB's for D-gap.  Because the LB's are off the ball, the DE's are responsible for the initial contain.

We teach our DE's to hold the edge and compress down the line of scrimmage.  A lot of time what happens is the DE's will chase.  When they see a run up the middle they will bail on their contain too soon trying to take a persuit angle to where they expect the RB to be if he gets through the line.  Other times they will get too far up field allowing the RB to bounce underneath them and get outside.  If the DE holds the edge and compresses down the line he should pick up any RB before he can bounce outside, or, at the very least force him to bounce even deeper into the backfield where he should have help from the LB's or CB's.

This will all very by scheme of course, but it's a general example of how it should be played.

Thing #2:  As a guy who coaches CB's I can tell you what we teach our kids.  In man coverage what we teach is simple.  Stick with your reciever and watch his eyes.  Most recievers will give away with their eyes the moment just before the ball arrives.  We teach our kids when you see his eyes get big and/or hands go up, turn and look for the ball. When they turn and look we also teach them to simultaneously rip their arm up through the recievers arms to knock the ball away. This way if they turn and look just as the ball is going over their head they are still in position to make a play even though they may not see the ball.  The second part of that is very difficult to master.

Again, this may not be how the M coaches are teaching it, but this is how we teach it in our defense at the lower levels.

I hope I was able to shed some light on your questions.  Go Blue!
