Irish Schadenfreude

(Apologies to my best friend, Bill, a Domer from Winetka who was a senior when the Irish last won a National Championship (and Reagan was President!))

Let’s enjoy some salty Leprechaun tears, for the leaves have not yet fully turned by Saint Mary’s Lake, and yet their shall be no Playoff appearance for those lads with the Golden Helmets…

Well, as the NBC announcers pointed out last night, their lads were busy studying for midterms last week, and couldn’t be bothered to show up in Louisville.

Next year I’m sure they’ll make room for a two (or three?!!) loss team from South Bend, but, alas, this fall they can only drown their sorrows at their girlfriend’s dorm (oh, sorry, no premarital relations allowed, so must head to the ole pub instead!)

NDNation making coaching analogies.

I posted something along the lines of MF was a beautiful girl you meet online and she swipes on you and all of her pictures look good and she says all the right things. Things progress as nature takes its course and one thing leads to another and you find out she has a huge lower back tattoo. A few weeks later she gets one on her wrist and then on her foot and finally a sleeve and then she quickly develops a crank addiction. All the while she’s still gorgeous and wears her clothes well and says all of the right things. It’s the exact same thing with MF. I wish I had been wrong but it’s time to piss on the fire and call in the dogs. It’s over Johnny. It’s so fkng over. At least we have this place we can come to and vent with kindred miserable souls that share in the misery.

LOL

I remember during the 90’s (during the Lou Holtz years) when a huge favorite Domer team struggled all day at home against Stanford and ended up losing.  The NBC announcers said the crappy showing was because ND was tired from mid-terms and didn’t have as much time to practice.  I was young but that was when I learned that Notre Dame is the only school to have mid-terms.

Seriously, fuck those guys.  They were never deserving of having that NBC contract 25 years ago and they don’t deserve it now.

From checking out The Athletic ND fans seem to be in one of two camps.

Either, "Fire Freeman right now." or "ND has played the toughest CFB schedule the world has ever seen and ND with two losses is better than anyone, including OSU."

This Saturday evening, USC plays a game in South Bend.  The game time temperature will be around 50 degrees.  And, as in Ann Arbor - there’s a chance of rain - yes, I know it six days away.

Any thoughts about this ND vs USC game?

USC has a potent offense that should overcome the ND defense. While the ND defense stinks, this could allow ND QB Sam Hartman to have a good day.

Someone tell  ND HC Freeman that he'll need 11 guys on the field on defense at all times.

USC to come out with another close win.

Anyone remember that ND fan boy who was all jacked up on steroids and always seemed to be on the verge of crying!! Those videos were always funny!

Interesting point. I suspect if ND ends up 9-3 he'll still go there, even if they fall to 8-4. He's clearly on track to start given they had two guys transfer out after Hartman came in. I don't see him coming our way with Jadyn Davis coming in, who fits our style of play better. I think Carr is more of a dropback passer. After seeing what JJ can do, having a QB with legs is a big plus.

One wild card: Tommy Rees was his biggest recruiter but is now at Bama. Could Bama take a run at him? Saban's been known to pull away players who seemed bound for elsewhere.

Don’t want Carr…. Hope he flops wherever he goes.  His grandfather was a mediocre coach who walked into third base and thought he hit a triple.  His lack of loyalty when transitioning out echoes to this day through his grandson.  Aidan Hutchinson and his father are the perfect counterpoints.

I think ND beats USC. Home game, USC has really been beatable. I doubt USC will be able to slow the ND running game like Louisville did. ND probably loses at Clemson to finish 9-3, followed by a bowl loss.
