thanks for sharing. It was an interesting read, if nothing else.

one of the reasons i finally joined this board is the level of negativity shown towards others, for just sharing their opinion, has become beyond ridiculous and deserves to be called out. 

i'm all for people sharing as much as they want, good or bad. if you disagree with something, say so – just don't get all emo whiny.

I think it's a totally fair point... and true.  So many people are out there checking to make sure that "X" has already been posted and are not actually interested in the content.  They just want to get their snarky comment in before the other jackels are able to.

What is the major issue with Bleacher Report? I'm sincerely asking because I don't know. Since I've been avidly reading MGoBlog only recently, I think i've missed the history. Every time I saw a Bleacher Report post the OP would get flamed so I didn't even bother reading. But the last couple of times the articles haven't been so bad. Can someone enlighten me?

 

EDIT: OMG Shirtless pointed out this is originally from Big House Blog, which might explain why this is good content. But still wondering Bleacher Report is so bad.

I use to think the same thing.  I like getting some info from other sports on it.  I thought people are on here were too sensitive.  Boy, was I wrong.  BR had an article on the 10 worst things about being a Michigan Wolverine or something along those lines.  Pure crap.  Written be a MSU student that had no business writing anything.  I cancelled my subscriptions.

I was wrong and learned my lesson to never doubt MGoblog ever again.  I plead guilty for my act of stupidity.

Bleacher report is not per se bad.  It's just not per se anything.  If Bruce Feldman wants to publish a column through Bleacher Report, he can.  If your 12 year old nephew wants to publish, he can too.  It's open.  So making a comment about whether Bleacher Report is good/bad is sort of like saying blogs are good/bad.  I'm sure there is some well reasoned content on Bleacher Report, but a lot of it is terrible (as some blogs are terrible).  With Bleacher Report you are often not getting anything more as a reader than if you wrote out your own thoughts.  Writing for Bleacher Report is sort of like commenting on this thread except you enter your text into a standardized format that is published at a central clearinghouse.  Making it look super official.

I think the effect of Bleacher Report is kind of fun, because it illustrates the superficiality of the veneer of "official" sports writing.  It looks like real content because it is dressed that way.

And everyone else, too. Now I see what the deal is. I guess I was also thrown off by the guise of it looking like a real website. That would probably explain all the generic titles like "Analyst" and "Contributor." As with the newspapers or talk radio around here, I'll prepare myself for the worst and hope to be pleasantly surprised with reasoned analysis. Or more likely just keep reading MGoBlog for all my Michigan related news.

that are just plain stupid, but a few of tend to put out good material. The main thing that caught me attention was the 1st question asked by Bob (and answered by Bob) about Dr. Phillips / Alabama hypothetical contact and the consequences of them.

neg a poster that brings a bleacher report article here.  It's okay because I know that some of the posters here are just searching for Michigan related topics to read for the most part.   Of course there are others that contribute and in return get hits on their blogs.  and an even smaller contengent that just drop links like they are almost spamming.

 Bleacher Report doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a place for fans to post their own work.  Some of it is good and some of it sucks.  I usually don't take it very seriously and don't read it often anymore, but there are still occasional good pieces there. 

 Pieces aren't automatically bad because they are on BR, any more than they are automatically good because they are in the MSM.  Each piece should be judged on its own merit.

Nothing earth-shattering, but good info.

  1. Alabama at Dr. Phillips:  hope his take is correct. Who will be monitoring this situation? Seems ripe for abuse. It would be nice for there to be an independent monitor on the ground.
  2. RR Coaching situation. Who knows. I agree with his bias, and believe RR will be back, but that's just me.
  3. Recruiting class. If his names and numbers pan out, I'll be ecstatic (adding Zettel, Frost, Rawls, Taylor, Bryant, and maybe Lyons to the existing class.) Adding Lucien or another WR, and a TE, and that would be awesome. I tend to agree that finding a QB to want to sit behind Denard, Tate, and Gardner is going to be tough. And this board has said the pickings are very slim at DT.
  4. RR does well with lots of time to prepare (for a bowl game.) Assume this is true, and that's a great thing.
  5. Defense to improve by bowl game. Hope this is true. Am glad for the extra practice time in general.
  6. Defense to improve next year. I think it has to, with the added experience, the increased depth, and the return of Woolfolk.

All in all, a nice article and synopsis of some of the key issues on the minds of many Michigan fans.
