I've seen a couple of bowl projections with us playing LSU or Auburn

Submitted by Patrick_Star on October 5th, 2020 at 5:08 AM

This is the first post that I've created here so, thank you for the upvotes.  Now, please don't beat me up when I say that I'm not expecting huge things for our team this year.  With that said, I'll be happy playing in a January 1st bowl against someone like LSU or Auburn.  I believe those are beatable opponents and getting a win to finish the season would set us up nicely for the 2021 season.  We should have a ton of players returning and we'll get tOSU at home and they'll have a new QB and a bunch of other new faces.  To me, though, we gotta find a way to finish the season on a winning note by beating an SEC team in a bowl.

How about it?

Here is an article I read this morning that has about as much predictive value as a bowl prognostication in early October.

“Oct 5, 2020 - An unexpected package could arrive, possibly shipped from far away. The circumstances could be rather strange. Friends or relatives that you might not expect could suddenly call or text, and you could an hour or more catching up. This can be very gratifying, Aries, but don't wear yourself out. You’ll have a good time no matter what you talk about.”

I'll help you out pal.  When posting a forum topic people are looking for likely some new and/or relevant news or possibly some analysis of something new they haven't seen before.  While your information may be new, it would be considered a hot take because we haven't played a game yet, so no one really knows how good UM will be yet.  Some people may be interested in discussing that, but as you've seen most probably think it's too early and/or too speculative to be topic worthy.  So, people are probably not very interested in reading about a bowl projection before we've played a game yet.  Don't take it too hard.  Most people's first posts are not great.

Speak for yourself pallie. Even though I have no fucking idea what it was about im pretty damn sure my first post was EPIC!!!

And yeah, other than that mistake your advice is 100% spot-on.  Most people here don't like hawt taeke threads when there actually is stuff to discuss (hence the snowflake threads), even less so when it's 100% pure speculation.

based on the resume's of the respective teams so far these pairings just seems like an obvious conclusion.                                                          /s

Let's grade your first ever post to figure out why the negs are overpowering the ups, shall we?

1) You titled it by saying you saw prognostications, but didn't reference anything of the sort.  -1

2) You took credit for posting, and essentially demanded upvotes.  -1

3) Right after asking for ups, you begged for clemency for your unsubstantiated claims of a bad team this year.  -1

4) You've already given up on this team before even a single game is played ("I'm not expecting huge things").  -1

5) You give OSU the respect they ask for by using 'tOSU'.  That is NOT the school's name. -1

6) It contains nothing but feelings.  -1

7) Your name seems appropriate. +1

So lets add it up!  1-6=(5)!  So, -5.  Unfortunately, I only have one vote to give...

(EDIT:  One Reco - proof read your post before posting!  I always try to do so, but I sometimes miss things - including on this post, two edits on it already!)

As an engineer, I struggle with punctuation. 1-6=(5)! to me means one minus six is five factorial, which would be 120. But the parentheses confuse me. But I did take a couple business school classes to boost my GPA, and there they used parentheses on occasion to represent a negative number....but the factorial of a negative number can't be calculated....but somehow all this equals -5.   I'm going to have to have a few drinks and return to this....

C'mon man, we haven't even played a game yet. We have no idea if we'll even play all 9 games yet. We have no idea if there will even be a bowl season yet.

Yet you want us all to analyze these potential matchups? No thanks.
