How would you grade Bredeson's season?

Submitted by hailtoyourvictor on

Bredeson is going to play a big role next season. I'm wondering what the general consensus of how his freshman season went. I'm not sure how the +/- system is rated for UFR, but here are his UFR grades:

Vs Rutgers +1

Vs Illinois +6

Vs MSU -2.5

Vs Maryland +3

Vs Iowa -3

Vs IN .5

For those of you familiar with UFR, what letter grade would you translate that to?

He struggled, no way around it, but as a true freshman, I think he overachieved, and will be our best lineman his junior year.

Both Clemson and Alabama had true freshman RTs start the National Championship game. If Filiaga starts at RT vs. Florida, we are winning it all next year.

Same here, Grade A. 247 did a re-rank of the Freshman class and based on his perfomance, his "re-rank"  was in the mid-20s (as in 24th best player in the class). You expect a true freshman to struggle more than he did to be honest. Not to mention he spent the better half of fall camp competing for the LT spot. Was forced to switch to LG when Braden ended up being dinged up to start the year, and then went back in once Braden had to go out to LT.

Also, when you have a true freshman playing guard. You hope your center is a little more polished than Center version Mason Cole, who  played his 2nd position in 2 years in a Harbaughffense.

I'm hesitant to assign a letter grade since he was a true freshman who wouldn't have been forced into action if we had a Michigan-caliber O-line, but I liked what I saw of him. I'm expecting a huge freshman-to-sophomre jump from him and Onwenu.

A great learning experience which was above average, especially considering he was a true freshman. It was the framework that he can build upon for next year where he will have a chance to become a star.

The reason I ask is because someone referred to him as a player that "struggled mightily" and cited UFR. I didn't think Bredeson was that bad as a freshman and wondered why UFR would imply that.

He was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. Maybe we are expecting a little much from our Freshman Lineman?

Enough with the apologies for mediocrity. Everybody knows that Harbaugh is all sizzle and no steak, and Drevno isn't any better than Fred Funk since Bredeson isn't a consensus All-American nor a first-rounder in the upcoming NFL draft. Time to clean house and fire them all. We need to contact Jon Gruden or Chip Kelly or Bob Stitt. This program is mired in unacceptableness because fans aren't angry enough.

We are fortunate to have one of the very best coaches in college football. Bright, funny, bleeds Maize and Blue.  We have got to take a deep breath and realize how far we have come.

In Year Harbaugh -1: 5-7, terrible team, embarrassingly disorganized.  Led to ouster of HC and AD, rightly so.

In Year Harbaugh 1: we overachieved at 10-3, could easily have been 8-5 (losses against Minny and Hoosiers).  If that occurred we would have been understandingly a little less rosy about prospects for the next (this) year, but would know we were headed in the right direction.  Instead, we set the bar very high for Year Harbaugh 2 because we were ahead of schedule, fortunate in a couple of very close games.

In Year Harbaugh 2: we hit it about right at 10-3.  Yes our three losses were by a combined 5 points (pretty remarkable), and yes some of the good fortune from Year 1 did not make it to Year 2, but 10-3 in Year 2 is pretty damn good.  Yes I'd like to have 8 more strategically placed points, but we are headed in the right direction.

In Year Harbaugh 3 we had better be careful, knowing how much we lose in senior leadership, Peppers and Newsome, that we don't risk Harbaugh wondering if he can "feel the love" somewhere besides A2.  Yes I want a BIG title and Nattie 4.  We will get there.

Perspective people. If we chase Harbaugh off, or 18 year old recruits with stupid Twottters, who's going to take the helm at Schembechler Hall.

Perspective people.

Oh dear lord, how did you guys politicize the problem of grade inflation? It's been slowing evolving for decades, and involves kids and parents of literally every political stripe. In this case, if the Millennial kids are the "problem," it's only because their Boomer and Gen X parents made them that way! Good God...

I think of it this way... He was the no. 2 ranked OG in the country coming out of high school and his offer sheet reads like a who's who of elite O-lineman factories (Alabama, Stanford, et al). He did well enough as a true freshman forced into action by depth issues to justify his recruiting ranking and offer sheet as a high schooler.

Imma say that gets him an "A".  It's tough to get juniors in a position to play that position well.  To come in and play at all as a freshman is impressive.  To be recognized as one of the best freshmen in CFB?

That'll do, Ben.  That'll do.
