Herm Edwards might have been fired on the field immediately after losing to EMU

Well this would be a first...

Herm Edwards was met by the ASU President and AD on the way off the field last night.

I’ve heard of getting tarmac’d but I think Herm is the first coach I’ve seen to get end zone’d… pic.twitter.com/GLQXU5XC9F

I've seen loads of comments like this regarding the video, which I find funny given that we have absolutely zero clue what was said there. It seems far more likely to have been a "come see me in my office after you get postgame stuff taken care of" than a literal firing. But the amount of people automatically jumping to the conclusion that they actually fired him on the sideline because the tweet implies it with no evidence is kinda absurd.

Reading lips a bit it looks like Herm says something about "Ok, tomorrow" or something like that after listening. Setting up a meeting in the morning.

Which Herm clearly understands the meaning of. Handles it classily.

I like Herm, it's a pity it didn't work, but it was bizarre from the outset and this was inevitable.

From the body language and facial expressions, it does seem like the conversation has a "I think you know what this means" tenor about it.

I suspect that Herm's departure has been in the works for weeks and that the EMU loss probably had the effect of forcing an immediate decision by the AD to stop prolonging the inevitable, which was subtly communicated to Herm in that conversation.

And our eagerness to glory in someone's humiliation. . . little messy, and I say that as a person who finds Edwards pretty messy himself.

My wife often looks over my shoulder when I'm reading and comments that men are bigger gossips than women. This kind of thing--pretty far down the scale of the mean and trivial--tends to suggest we can't be much different, anyway. I mean, when dim bulbs like Edwards are making such absurd sums, I get that they are fair game, but he just looks vulnerable and a little lost here. And I agree with those who see this as pretty inconclusive.

"Any assistant coach who did that should be black-balled from the industry forever."

Forever? That seems a little black 'n white.

From a great distance Herm seems like a good guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he had the support of his players.

Imagine, though, a case where the coach was putting players in harmful positions and blaming them and the assistants for everything. You could see where the assistants might be acting in the interest of the players by undermining the coach. Shady, but the situation could be complicated.

But the thing to do in a case like that would be to go to the AD or university president.  These guys were apparently leaking gameplans and such to opposing teams.

If this was just one coach, I hope for the sake of the others that he'd be outed.  Otherwise they're all going to be under a cloud of suspicion.

I would really just like to know wth went wrong here? Herm was kinda the shining star after his first season and he seems to have had a fairly good rep going in but within a year or two that was obviously not the case. I think there is more to this than meets the eye.

There is a woman on Twitter who does lip reading, because she is hearing impaired, and she concluded it wasn't a firing. Herm said something about having just given the game ball out and then basically said "ok, will. we will." They probably just told him they needed to talk the next day.

I think that, if I were Herm Edwards, the sensible solution would have been to walk immediately to probate court and change your name, that way when they fire Herm Edwards the next morning, you can say, "Well, that sucks for Herm, but I am Paul Jennings" (or whatever name was chosen).

This has been thoroughly debunked. According to ASU fans, the AD and President meet him on the field at the end of every game and lip readers have said the convo is a benign "what happened?" "we got beat, that's what happened" and then "let's talk tomorrow."

I could read the AD's lips perfectly. He was saying, "Hey, don't feel bad. Eastern Michigan is a heck of a good team and a great school. Did you know that George Gervin went there? Also, they have a water tower right next to campus that looks like a huge penis."

So it had nothing to do with Herm getting fired.

I know for a fact that he was not terminated on the field.  He was called into the office to have a private

meeting with Crow and Ray Anderson the following morning where he was let go.  The 3 of them typically met on the field after the game.

Chris Karpman, an ASU insider, did a podcast on this.

Nothing to see here!

This just in LSU gets 1 year probation for visiting with a recruit during virus dead period.     ASU hosted like 10 recruits on campus during this period.  That should be like 4 years probation if you base punishment it gave out to LSU for an asst. Coach doing that.  They also fired coach for that cause and still got 1 year probation.
