Cowherd picks WMU to cover the spread.
this may be of some local interest
Nice misleading title.
In the car, sorry. He has WMU as his "Herdle" potential upset pick. It is Cowherd so take it for what it is.

#1 rule of Mgoblog is always talk about Mgoblog
#2 rule of Mgoblog is make a damn title that is informative to the post.
because the people who read this blog still have dial-up and it takes 5 minutes for the page to load so they end up wasting way too much time clicking on a topic they didnt actually care about
Action News: President Reagan Dies... His Hair!
It is Cowherd, who cares.
Colin Cowherd is a major assclown who needs to be banned from radio and media broadcasts everywhere.
clearly anyone that says things you don't like should be banned. Freedom of speech and the press is so 1700's.
No excuse for the subpar title. I accept all ridicule.
wouldn't you say picking the spread? and picking WMU to win are two different things?
good cause I would too
Its a topic of discussion to help time go by, because with 3 days till kickoff everything is moving in slow motion.....I got a question...whats the spread
Michigan +14.5. First week of cf some money can be made. I'm picking Michigan to cover I haven't bet on sports in years but that spread has me wanting to. Every gambler I work with has Michigan on a ticket.
Michigan -14.5, right?
If your bookie has Michigan +14.5, can I get his number? I could wipe out all my student loans before I graduate.
I would honestly put $10,000 on Michigan +14.5.
Same bet of anything YOU do not want to be on it.
There is a reason casinos are billion dollar palaces and enterprises, the public as a whole are losers(gambling wise at a minimum.) haha
It's basketball on grass (or field turf).
isn't Cowherd's agent a Michigan grad? He should be careful not to anger the person that got him where is in the first place.
No wonder - he must be the best agent in the history of agenting because Cowherd is the least talented guy on TV and Radio and i don't believe I'm exaggerating.
Not exaggerating at all. I remember when Sportsnation came to campus last year to do a live show and Colin did his morning radio show also on campus live. It was hilarious just watching everyone walk by not giving a damn what he was talking about (as opposed to Sportsnation which was flooded with people).
OMG LOOK AT WHAT I WAS DARING ENOUGH TO DO EVERYONE GOOGLE ME AND FIND OUT WHO THE HECK I AM AND LISTEN TO MY SHOW PLEASE PLEASE NOTICE ME
This is the same team that was passed over for a bowl game, even though they had 6 wins. We will crush them.
Why are we discussing Cowherd's opinions. He is the worst host/expert/tool on the ESPN payroll.
Rob Parker. Its like finding a needle in a stack of needles.
Dr. Lou dishagreesh ash that title not only belongsh to him but ish forever retired and ish now named after him.
Mark May and Woody Paige are both bigger douches.
No way. I'm not a big fan of either of those guys, but Cowherd seriously takes the cake.
made me think of a field of cow droppings
Which is an accurate representaion of his show.
I don't think it's crazy to pick WMU in this game. They have an excellent QB and a very good coach who has been in place for the better part of a decade. Michigan's D might come out not really knowing what it's supposed to do, and Carder could do enough damage to score more than a Michigan offense that doesn't have any game experience running some of its schemes.
I don't think it's crazy to bet either way on any game. Vegas has spreads for a reason.
I misunderstood your post at first.
I agree that picking WMU to cover isn't crazy, but picking them striaght up? UM beat WMU 31-7 two years ago with a inferior unit to the team that should be put out this year.
1. 2009 wasn't a particularly good WMU team by its standards;
2. We have reason to believe that Michigan's D will be much-improved, but we haven't seen that yet;
3. WMU has a really good QB and a 1,000 yard (6th-year) WR coming back;
4. WMU's players are all familiar w/ their systems;
5. There's good reason to think that Michigan won't be great at running the pro-style parts of its offense.
Don't get me wrong. The above information is only so valuable. I would not pick WMU in this game. I'm just saying that I don't think predicting a WMU win is crazy.
I think picking a WMU win is crazy. We are going to steamroll them. This isn't 2008 anymore, Sally.
You DO realize that last year's Western team wasn't good, either? I fail to see how they were so much better than 2009, or that this year's team will be so much better than 2010. Picking a 6-6 MAC team to upset M is just stupid.
Phil Steele is unusually good at making predictions about such things. WMU has knocked off Iowa and Illinois in the last five or so years.
The fact that Michigan should be better than it's 2008 incarnation doesn't mean that it will beat WMU this year.
If you're going to refer to me by a woman's name, I prefer my drag name, Chesty LaRoux.
To devil's advocate you back:
WMU's QB that year was as good or better than Carder. They return their top WR, but lose all others, including Nunez who was nearly a 1,000 yard guy himself.
We'll be starting a junior Heisman finalist instead of a true frosh at QB.
Our D will be better. That's final.
1. Will Denard be a Heisman-caliber QB in this offense?
2. I think Carder hasn an excellent chance of being better than Hiller. He finised the last part of last year with a 20-3 TD/Int ratio;
3. We haven't seen the D do anything yet.
Again, I'm not picking WMU. But, if I bet on football (which I don't), I would gladly put down $10 (or whatever) if someone were to give me 10-1 odds on WMU.
Ehh, that number 2 point looks much less impressive when you consider the opponents were the meat of the MAC schedule. NIU excepted of course, since they were pretty good last year (also the game where he threw 2 picks).
Yes. During that stretch, he threw 13 TDs and no picks against Akron, BGSU and EMU, the three worst teams he played. However, he threw 4 picks against Toledo, 2 against NIU and 2 against ND. He managed 104 yards passing in a loss to Idaho.
Basically, the guy padded his stats big time against not just MAC teams, but the terrible MAC teams. And he had a huge game against Nicholls State. And although he's bringing back his "top" WR, his top two receivers were almost the same (same TDs, within 3 receptions, relatively close in yardage) and the other one is gone. Really, they're returning half their receiving production, and only 2 OLs.
WIth a worse receiving corps and a worse OL, I don't expect this guy to do much damage against us.
I will give you eleventy billion to 1 odds. If we lose to Western, we will struggle to win 2 games
WMU has a good coach that can't beat Central.
Do you have us missing an extra point, or making two field goals?
sad when that's a real question, isn't it. One is left wondering if the poster thinks UM can actually make 2 field goals within one game (madness on a SPARTA level last year), or miss a chip shot extra point....which really isnt unreasonable, even pros miss that kick every now and again.
2 FGs. But Denard throws for 275, runs for 160, and would have scored another TD but for a bad call which forces UM to kick the FG instead. Also, no injuries and Hoke points at a lot of players.
Neither. 3 TDs + 3 extra points, plus our D comes out pisssssed offffffff from having sucked for three years and racks up 3 safeties.
What I do like on this game is the Under. 61.5 is way too high, in my opinion.
Nobody *knows* what to expect from the defense, and most will assume that the improvement will be slight to substantial, which would still result in a very average defense (by whose standards is up for debate). They're probably also assuming the offense will take a step back simply because of the OC/philosophy switch.
Couple that with what should be a good offense for WMU (by MAC standards, at the least) and you've the elements necessary to possibly cover the spread.
And...it's Colin. So yeah.
I cant stand The Herd. I try to listen to his show but am turned off immediately but his "know it all" attitude. An opinion is one thing, but to think your opinion is the only one that matters and is always right, cant stand it.
I turn on SVP for my drive to work.
I was trying to read up a bit more on Carder and once you get past the fluffy, fluffy articles ("Carder Has a Few Cards of His Own," "WMU QB Will Play on Sundays," "Kansas Product Heady, Untamed Beast of Quarterbacking"), I still don't really know anything more about him than I did the QB they trotted out in '09.
His stats last year were big, but WMU played a ridiculous schedule. Notre Dame and MSU were the two largest OOC game, the other two being Nichols State and Idaho. Maybe, just maybe, a tad inflated?
there's a legit chance they cover the spread. there's a lot of unanswered questions going in so 14.5 might be a bit big. i expect michigan to cover and win the game 34-17. picking western straight up though is crazy. they've got a good qb but their offensive line play hasn't been good and they haven't had much of a rushing attack at all. their defense hasn't been anything spectacular either. obviously they're a different team then the 09 version that opened against michigan but i remember hearing a lot of talk then that michigan was going to lose and western got rolled. i expect a tight game up until the half and michigan pulls away.
The offense may start off a little slow but I still see us winning by three touchdowns.
Cowherd is a jackass.
Your comment is unfair to jackasses. I would be more likely to describe him as lower than whales*it.
Whalesh*t probably isn't low enough. What are those funky looking creatures that live at the bottom of the Marianas trench? Maybe he's lower than thier sh*t.
OH MY GOD, NO, HOW DARE HE? I AM SO OFFENDED! GET A BRAIN, MORAN!
I don't listen to sports radio at all. I used to listen to the WTKA podcast, but they are not on itunes for some reason. That was the only show I could stand. Cowherd is a jack ass and he looks like a ferret.
I just got off the phone with whaleshit.
It's filing a lawsuit charging that comparing it to Cowherd is libelous.
What is happening in this thread? Is the OP Lee Corso?
The fact that Dann O'Niell is their starting LT should tell us a lot about their line. He was a guy that people in our program said wasn't cut out for college football, and wasn't anywhere near the discussion as even a contributor when we didn't have good tackles.
Now, he may have gone a long way since then, but I'm doubting that's the case.
Michigan's defense has been great in opening days the last two years.
.....I thought this was something about WMU players offering to cover furniture.
He hates the Wolverines...
He's a turd.
This thread is making me realize we have no idea what to expect. None. At least last year, you knew what RRod was trying to do and trying to build on. This season is a complete mystery: what will Denard's game look like? How will the RB's fit in, and will they be able to step up? What will the defense do differently that will make a difference? What about special teams? It's hard to imagine any of it.
To be fair, you could have asked those same questions last year too.
