Hello Prince Holloway soon?

Submitted by MHNet on

Josh Helmholdt's latest article is on Florida slot receiver Prince Holloway.  Here's the print version.

Helmholdt says that Holloway has already decided to commit to Michigan, just waiting for the right time to inform the coaches.

“Dallas (Crawford) is my cousin and for a month we planned on committing to Michigan,” Holloway said.

Our roommate's nephew is always over and is completely spoiled. I can't do anything about it for fear of retribution from my roommate's "Mama Bear"-type sister.

He's about four and cries about everything - hungry, tired, his mac and cheese is too orange, or we're watching college football on Saturday instead of Dora the 'splora. Swiper, no swiping.

I was a lifeguard for 5 years, so I enjoy having kids around, but I'm with you DG - some of them become scarier than Freddie Krueger when you're around them.

Corey Long's recruiting blog, dated 12/3 - the first bit is public

'West Virginia was still thought to be the leader for wide receiver Prince Holloway (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) but things have since changed and the 5-foot-10, 175-pounder has a new leader.

"It's all Michigan," Holloway said. "They are my number one school and if all goes as plans I will be a Wolverine."'

I think we need another slot. Against the grain I know, but I prefer depth anywhere we can get it. I do not like being 1 or 2 injuries away from starting freshman at any position. Sounds to me like he may be able to play both inside and outside. Come to Michigan Prince, we loves us some fast Florida guys.

Per ESPN,

However he is also undersized and lacks bulk and strength and we feel that if not in the spread offense where he can be utilized in space, he may be a better fit as a cornerback/nickel on defense. He has very impressive acceleration traits. Reaches top gear quickly and is a decisive runner with darter-type movement skills. Is at his best in space on offense.

They also call him a homerun threat with good plant and break - but he needs to develop. I'll take a kid that wants to play at Michigan, has family playing at Michigan, and can play multiple positions - oh and is supposedly really fast and from Florida. All these things say you take him.

Not hurting for depth, but a good position to have a lot of depth. Imagine when the defense starts stuffing opponents and forcing 3 and outs. Now imagine Denard or Tate with 4 or 5 more possessions a game. Add on top of that a rested stable of slot receivers to blow past tired defenders and you have RichRods recipe for interstellar domination. Just sayin

I don't understand the need to bag on these kids.  Especially before they even set foot on campus.

Last year Kovacs was too small, too slow, too (fill in blank) and he's turned out to be the only sure tackler on defense and emerged as a leader.  Yet to hear the "experts" on this board pontificate, if the kid isn't 4 stars or better he's not good enough for Michigan.

Posters were similarly down on Carvin, Ray, and a host of other contributors.

Kovacs is "the only sure tackler"    that makes me laugh.  He missed plenty of tackles.

Demens is much more of a sure tackler.  His form is great, and he brings the wood a lot harder than Kovacs.      Not bagging on Kovacs.      Just don't forget about Demens,

He could be the game changer we've been missing at Kick returner/punt returner ever since Breaston left...

And some of you guys talk about depth at slot...but Grady/Gallon/Robinson haven't exactly lit the world on fire since they have been on campus.

For me, he sounds a bit like WVU's Tavon Austin, so as long as the scholarship isn't taking away from a potential defensive player then I'm all for it.

How do you know? As far as I'm concerned the only people who can know that is the coaching staff. If they get their guys on defense and still have one or two available then why not?

I'd have a problem with it if the staff decided to give it to him over...say a LB...but if they end up getting their guys on D and still have a scholarship left then I don't see the problem with it.

Thank you. I was looking for someone to state exactly what you did about Grady/Gallon/Robinson not exactly setting the world on fire. They are good athletes, but lets not make them out to be game changers just yet. Im not saying Prince is either, but to say we cant use him or need him is puzzling. I know we have depth at slot, I know we need guys at other positions, but lets not count him out. Like MGoTrey mentioned, he could be our next threat at return man. This kid loves Michigan and is all in. I know that doesnt automatically warrant a scholarship, but arent those the type of kids you'd want on the team?

Come on people he's not THAT small at 5'10" 175 or whatever.  If he has great speed and a willingness to be here, bring him on.  It's not like Justice or Prince would be wedded to the slot position - either could be moved to defense, Justice could (obviously) be a RB, they could be return guys, etc.

Think outside the box here OMG DEFENSE people.

...Michigan could soon have a Prince and a Countess on the team.  It would certainly make for a lot of great puns from the media for the next four or five years.
