Besides brisket, Viet food…

Besides brisket, Viet food for one. One of the larger Viet populations for sure, outside of Los Angeles.

I'll ask the important question ... it's Houston, which strip club would you recommend?

Who could have predicted trying to create a new revenue stream based from the free FEELS you previously gave away would result in waning customer interest and transitioning those who visited frequently to will visit occasionally while concurrently being able to subsidize those same FEELS from home via internet or media stream could go so poorly?

Besides practice time and…

Besides practice time and the ability to play players deeper down the depth chart, I feel bowl games are nearly meaningless outside of the Playoff, NYD, and perhaps a handful of the more marquee bowl games (Peach, Holiday, or Alamo as examples). I hope with megaconferences, it creates or pushes nonconference scheduling similar to basketball with potential SEC/Big 10 a/o a Big 12 ("other")/Big 10 challenge games, while populating the remaining schedule with conference opponents. (E: to add, NFL bound players probably feel this way too as they are sitting out from bowl games. At least with a "challenge" game, you have a bowl game like experience on the schedule except on a college campus ... or not. I would also try to schedule it to have an SEC team play a game in Nov in the midwest.)

I also think it would be interesting to revisit Rich Rodriguez's idea of an exhibition game (Week 0) so teams can fine tune the week prior to entering the regular schedule. (Maybe even limit the quarters to 10/12 minutes as no one cares to stay long for a 54-10 game anyways. Perhaps Notre Dame could keep Navy on the schedule this way too, while rotating other traditional rivalries as their challenge games.)

I tuned in thinking they…

I tuned in thinking they were going for a nostalgia factor by using the exact same cameras from when Howard was playing.

Their 15 class was boosted by the "Florida 5" that became the "Florida 1". Cannot remember the details but believe Charlie recruited/ signed them knowing they probably couldn't qualify for enrollment, but did it anyway to have a "Top 10" class.

Also, they're going to hurt on their DL front unless every single recruit pans out at the position. They've had one or two classes without a single recruit at the position. I've also heard some rumors that recruits are staying away from the Big 12 recognizing it's a dying league (besides Stoops.)

Kind of Poor Logic

Poor logic to equate the Tennessee team that played Alabama as the same that played TAMU. They were down 11 to 14 starters or significant players (according to reddit source) prior to Alabama (they were down some even to A&M but if you watched TAMU-Tenn and the number of injured Tenn players, then you knew they were not going to match or be competitive against Alabama.)

Ultimately, it's a little silly to get in a big argument over who should be 4, 5, or 6 when both have some of their best games ahead (State and Ohio State for Michigan; Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss for TAMU) and they have have both beaten weaker teams (Praire View A&M, Hawaii, Rutgers, heck maybe even Illinois could be in this category) 0 to 40++.

It could use a poorly drawn

It could use a poorly drawn Wolverine.

Apologies for being off

Apologies for being off topic, but CFB browsing as momentum is obviously biased towards that school down south. Speaking of Hoke, Texas sending 10 out on special teams. Sound familiar? On iPad, so sorry if this doesn't embed correctly:

Minor Correction

Texas A&M is in the SEC(w) and not the Big 12.

Not true, at least yet.

There were some rumors Richt may leave after years of pressure from the AD.  Also, Chavis to TAMU is supposedly a done deal after some dysfunction between Les Miles and their AD.

Didn't think it would be much of a contest, so decided to commit time to one of these recipes in the series.  Already smells good and I'm counting on this being a better outcome.

Re: non-conference games

One benefit of non-conference play was measuring one conference strength (relatively, of course) to another's.  It's kind of lost already when schools schedule MAC-like teams, but should be on the rebound again with strength of schedule on a playoff voter's mind.  Heck, even a Georgia Tech, Washington, or others would be more exciting than a Miami-OH.

I also wish the Big Ten would schedule non-conference games later in the season, similar to the SEC.  Invite a Florida, etc. during November (at night even, for kicks) and use Indiana as a season opener/ exhibition game.

Well, one is now gone

Well, one is now gone (Zaycoven Henderson).  Hope I linked this correctly.

I believe TAMU's McKinney was

I believe TAMU's McKinney was demoted from play calling duties in the bowl game against Duke.  I wouldn't take him necessarily, but I do enjoy watching their offense.

As a former graduate student/

As a former graduate student/ TA, emo apologies or excuses are certainly irritating.  I give you that; heck, I cannot recall how many times we would share over beer the excuses coming from the mouths of 18-20(-ish) year olds.   Professors loved them too.

As far as attention whore, sure it certainly helps bring attention.  It probably helped win the Heisman, lifted his draft stock, etc., but do you think he really wanted THIS level of attention.  The dude is decently smart, assuming he knows the difference between first round money versus second round money, and right now he's likely first round money.  Factor in the success of his NFL comparables, i.e. the Russell Wilson's or Drew Bree's, more NFL teams would be willing to risk drafting him in the first round.  Why would he take a 5-digit figure, when he obviously can afford the lifestyle he has now thanks to family funds, risk being suspended and drop to post-first round money.  I'm just saying, a report from two people who said they saw him sign X, Y, and Z (which is true), and then allege why he signed X, Y, and Z without evidence just smells fishy.  JF has stated he has been dupped before by someone in a military uniform asking him to sign memorabilia for charity, only to then to later find it on ebay.  I think he's stated it has occurred a number of times, and I

Apologies if I'm overly defending him, I just think he's got some serious skills.  I liked Cam Newton for his on-field performance, athletic ability, and command of his offense/team.  Newton had more serious history and violations when compared to JF, but people didn't hesitate giving him the Heisman.  A freshman with a little bit of swagger, the means, and access to live it up some and it's on both ESPN and TMZ.

Please, some of you are

Please, some of you are funny. What exactly has he done to be vilified so much? Gone to NBA finals game, and be invited back into the locker room? How many here wouldn't go, even LeBron feelings aside? How many wouldn't hang out with Drake, or whichever singer's poster you have hanging on your wall, if given a chance? Who wouldn't dance with a hot blonde in a Scooby costume? I don't even think he's a dbag really, I've seen bigger dbags on campus by people who have done nothing to earn it, see the business school.

Dude can ball though. He outplayed Alabama's QB all day that game. Hell, McCarron's last interception would have been a pick six if he threw the ball accurately. Don't say crap about Bama playing a tough one the week before when A&M went an entire season without a bye week.

The game should be interesting, no doubt. Saban has had time to plan, but JF is still learning the offense if anyone watched him through the year. Their O-line is still solid, the left tackle replacing the second overall draft pick was a projected top 15 pick this year. Their front seven on defense is a worry but if A&M gets up quick on Bama again, then they force them to play a game they're not accustomed to.

Round 2

Michigan vs. Texas A&M.  Hold on folks.

He'll be fine,

even with Joekel gone.  The RT, now LT, Matthews was a top 15-ish pick himself, and Ifedi at RT is a more natural fit for him.  The center, another Matthews, gained some game experience last year and will pick it up quickly.  Manziel was still learning the offense last year, and the team incorporated more into it as the year progressed.  It was fun watching his progression, and he does have a heck of an arm.

Also, Manziel's girlfriend isn't hard on the eyes either.

Edit:

Edit: Texas A&M just picked up the commitment of QB Kyle Allen.  Michigan now has the second ranked team in 247's composite ranking.  That was fast.

LOLz

I first read the license plate as "STD MSU".

If I could just throw in a

If I could just throw in a few more restaurant and or bar suggestions:

Ella's, I suggest Soul Food Sundays for Chicken & Waffles and the ribs are good too.

Fly Bar and Restaurant, a bit more $$ but not too ridiculous

The Refinery, I suggest making a reservation on-line before going.

Bricks of Ybor, deli in Ybor with a decent selection of beer.

The Indepent, small delicious deli and an impressive selection of beer.

Taco Bus, Tacos & a Bus duh.

Ribbit's, a bar-b-que joint in the middle of SoHo bars owned by a Alabama fan.

Ceviche, Spanish tapas and live music for the fun times.

4 Green Fields, a thatched roof bar/ restaurant.

Red Mesa Cantina, St. Pete near downtown that has a great patio bar and delicious food.

Tampa Brewing Co and Cigar City for the local beer joints.

Ybor is great for the crazy nights and will have eveything from gay bars, biker bar, dance clubs, a Barbarella-themed bar, tamer outdoor bars, etc.

SoHo is a bit more the collar-pooping crowd with UT(ampa) students and young college grads.

Channelside,  I only really went for date nights with the fiancee when the movie theater was there.  It closed down a few months ago, so yeah it's that bad.  The aquarium is there, so that may be a bonus.

I wouldn't recommend Columbia

I wouldn't recommend Columbia for a latin flavor, it's a bit overrated and I feel a tourist trap.  Ceviche is far better near So Ho.

... easy on the tini!

Appletini ... easy on the tini!

The front doorway area looks like it is frowning.  Someone should post it on Faces in Places with a title along the lines of "Sad House Not a Ohio State Fan."

Without Ricky Williams or Cedric Benson around, there's not a lot of RB's that can toke the ball like they did.

I don't know why, but I received my copy on Monday.  Amazon sent it a day early, no complaints.

Not to mention graffiti A&M's campus with their Interlocking TT.

Hodges . . .

He was also their tackle leader and the soul of the defense, despite having Von Miller on their defense.  Hodges went out in the first quater and and Les Miles just exploited that hole in the defense like crazy.  It was a completely different defense and game once Hodges went out.  I don't know if A&M would have won it had Hodges not went out, because LSU's defense was pretty good too, but it doesn't matter now.

A&M returns 19/22 starters and they should be good.  I think 10-ish is appropriate.  They have an explosive offense and the defense should improve over last year.  They loose Hodges and Von Miller, but the 9 other returning defensive players should help their replacements.

T-shirts

Someone needs to make a new t-shirt design with the Michigan - OSU series record:

Wins - Losses - Ties - Vacated

I don't think Hoke, by

I don't think Hoke, by himself, is that great of a coach or a coaching genius.  His record / C.V. just doesn't scream anything special.  What I am hoping for, is a CEO type of coach.  His strategy is this:

1) Hire great people around you (OC, DC, etc.)

2) Recruit like hell.

3) ???

4) Profit.

Von is a helluva' athelete.

Von is a helluva' athelete.  Watching players develope like him is just fun to watch.  To go from talented, but kind of lost, sophmore to a dominant senior is remarkable.  It was like watching Brandom Graham again.

He should come back and score

He should come back and score just one more FG for his career total.  Bad vodoo man, bad vodoo.   ;)

"But he can only win in the Big East, not the Big Ten." I think people nagged on RR saying something similar to that. Looking at the CV's of the last two coaching hires, erasing the names, and tell me who you would of hired. I'm hoping Hoke will be a Mack Brown type of coach; more of an executive type and will surround himself with good coordinators.

Although it's still early, it

Although it's still early, it looked rough.  I am hoping for a Texas A&M style of "Pro Style" football; still fast paced when needed, incorporating elements of spread and allowing the QB to tuck it under and run when needed.  They just looked confused.  I'm not even convinced the defense is THAT much better, since the interceptions were bad decisions by the QBs.  We'll see how it is come September.
