Hello: Aidan Falk (sb)
Now with the Football season all but over (save #beat ohio), it is time to talk about our most recently successful varsity sport: Softball. National Signing Day is Friday so I will give the board a run-down of the latest verbal commitments that are expected to sign with us on Friday.
Coach Hutch seems to be focusing on power with this class in the mold of Chiddy and Ashley. We are expected to get 3 kids from Orange County, California along with the player profiled below.
First up is Aidan Falk. Aidan Hails from Rochester New York where she plays for Our Lady of Mercy. Her summer team is the elite Battery Lightning gold. She plays catcher and 1B, she bats and throws left. In her junior year, Aidan’s batting average is .556 and her on-base percentage was .682. Last year as a junior, Aidan was a Second-Team All-State selection. MaxPreps ranks her in the top 60 nationally.
Aidan received an offer from ND, amongst other smaller D1 schools. Welcome to the family Aidan. We are happy to have you. We hope your stay in AA is rewarding, your softball career is outstanding but more importantly; your education and studies bring enlightenment that only the Michigan Difference can bring.

Not to bash softball at al but:
"it is time to talk about our most recently successful varsity sport: Softball. "
Basketball anybody?

The correct answer is men's swimming; they are the only sport to win the NCAA championship in their most recently completed season.
Great update, MGoSoftball; always appreciated!

But Men's Gymnastics also won the NCAA championship this past season, including #1 and #2 in the all-around, and will be hosting the championships right here in A2 this coming spring. (Okay, I'm not there anymore, but when I talk about sports I am.)
But if we're talking about the traditional team sports, softball at M is hard to beat for consistency of excellence.
Welcome, Aidan!

Oh, right; of course Men's gymnastics (also a varsity sport) won the national championship last year too.
Agreed that for team sports softball might just edge out hockey for most success over the recent several years, especially if you take into account the number of teams nationally.

I'm not saying I'm not interested, I in fact am, which is why I commented And I'm not bashing softball, I think their acheivements are outstanding. But I don't think we should be overlooking the achievements of the basketball team(and all others, swimming and gymnastics included) and downplaying them by saying softball is the most succesful team from last year like it's a fact.
So please, don't tell me what to do.

She apologized and everything and you still dinged her? Lighten up Francis.

Now if you want to throw some successful fall sports up for comparison, that's worth discussing :)

Over .500 BA? I'm not a softball fanatic but that seems really good.
Congratulations on the offer and welcome to the team!

Never knew Aidan was a girl's name. Learn something every day.
Hope she does well at UM.

Hutch continues to reel in talent from across the country. One can never emphasize enough how impressive her recruiting efforts are given the systemic disadvantages Michigan faces in this sport. A testament to her tremendous work over the years and to the kids who believe in her & what she's built. Hopefully it'll be four strong years in A2 for Falk!

As a longtime M softball fan I welcome updates on recruiting and on the team's progress. Maybe on occasion when you come across news of some former players you could pass it along. For example, one of my all-time favorite players is Dexter native Jennie Ritter. What's she doing these days? Any chance she could ever join the coaching staff? Unfortunately Hutch won't be around forever. If her succession plans could include Jennie, that'd be great for M softball. During her time with the team Jennie was a great athlete, a great competitor, and showed exceptional poise and character. Sound like there's a coach in there somewhere.

See Ritter's website: www.jennieritter15.com/About-Us.html. She is involved in some youth coaching.

She's also done some color commentary for BTN softall broadcasts.
