My sincere thanks, respect, and admiration for all who have served.

Prayers for those, and their families, who made the ultimate sacrifice to support and advance the ideals of our country.

On the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th the “war to end all war” ended on this day 105 years ago.

But not the violence and  horror. That was just beginning. Civil war, revolutions, ethnic violence, genocide, and political decisions that continue to impact our world to this day would be the legacy of the “Great War”.

People are dying today for decisions made in 1917.

I would respectfully say that there is nothing happy about being a veteran of war. Your nation asked you to participate in one of the worst acts known to mankind. It may have left you with long term physical and psychological ailments. For that all I can say is that I am sorry. I hope we do right by you.

I personally chose to view this as Europeans do—-Remembrance of a catastrophe that killed 20 million and would lead to the deaths of tens of millions more in successor conflicts.

I remember the veterans of war every day. I urge people to do the same. I am not suggesting people dwell on it, but simply to spare a brief thought every day for those who have “borne the battle”.

Major Dick Winters at the end of Band of Brothers: “…there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of the men I served with who never got to enjoy the world without war. “
