Both Seinfeld and Friends were really popular when I was in undergrad and I just couldn’t get into them, much like Saturday Night Live it felt like there were bolts of hilarity surrounded by hours of drudgery(plus with Friends I hated Ross) and if I just waited the funny parts would be acted out or quoted at length enough for me so I could at least keep up with what was going on.  Similar dynamic with HIMYM.

Originally I thought it was just something the writers of Seinfeld created but evidently it predated the show.

It was something the father of one of the writers had created, and when the producers heard the strange tale, they insisted it be worked into an episode because " It's crazy and hilarious and just so funny and so disturbing. It's awesome."

My favorite thing about Festivus in the past 10 years has been the look on my daughters faces when I make them watch that scene. Unfortunately, this is the first year my daughters wont be with me for Christmas so we wont have that experience.

I still don't get the pole thing? Should I go to a strip club and watch a pole dancer? Even though Today is not my gym day, I can go up to the gym and max out my bench press. The easiest thing will be shouting out your grievances after dinner.

My favorite holiday.

I shared this episode with my daughter when she was 10 on Festivus. She did not find it funny or worth her time. I aired my grievances later that evening.

This isn't a grievance so much as a perplexity...why is Ryan Global Tax Services sponsoring a bowl game? Precisely how many potential clients are watching Miami (O) vs North Texas? One? Zero?

OK, it is a grievance...if I can find a sponsor for it. "That dunk [first down/third down stop/three-point shot/etc] was brought to you by" has made it impossible to listen to sports on the radio.
