Hackenberg thanks everyone except Franklin while declaring for draft

Submitted by Michigan Eaglet on

As many of you are aware, Hackenberg decided to not stay and play behind a paper mache OL at PSU and take his chances in the draft. What you probably didn't know is that he thanked pretty much everyone except his current head coach James Franklin, including 2 former coaches, a video director and some guy with a communications specialty. Not sure if there's bad blood between them after the poor protection he's received all year or he just forget after taking one of the 7,364 sacks this season. (Ok so it's not that high, but he was sacked over 100 times in his career at PSU)

"MDog:" Michigan's inappropriate treatment of Rich Rod has been documented by JUB and discussed here thousands of times.  The "mistake" was sabotaging his tenure and subsequently hiring Brady Hoke to be a sock puppet for David Brandon just as Rich Rod had finally amassed enough upperclassmen to field a representative team.

Gratuitious mention of Rich Rod as a "mistake" is unnecessary and, frankly, stupid.  Please think before you "contribute."

He's not their RR, he's their Brady Hoke. Great recruiter whose awful offensive line is holding back a criminally misused QB and quality defense and he just brought in a new OC to fix everything in what is probably his last year.

...that's an even worse comparison.

We're talking about a guy who...ahem..."may or may not" have intervened in rape accusations against four of his players by confronting the alleged victim, may or may not have personally encouraged the alleged victim to join his recruiting-hostess program a week prior to the incident, may or may not have viewed video of the alleged assault, said he did, then said he didn't, then when asked under oath if he had lied about it said "no". (How you can say both that you did and that you didn't and not have lied either time is unclear.) We're talking about a guy who admits...well, it didn't come off as an admission, he didn't seem to realize it was even problematic until he heard the public reaction...that he vets prospective assistants by ogling their wives.

And we're comparing that to Brady Hoke and Rich Rodriguez? Think you what like about their coaching abilities, the word "vile" doesn't quickly come to mind when discussing either man.

And Penn State, of all football programs, hires him, of all coaches? It's not just a bad hire, it's the worst imaginable hire, no matter what happens on the field.

I wouldn't be thankful either, Franklin was gifted an amazing raw talent and completely botched it. However, Hackenburg really should've thanked him to save face, or at least thanked the current staff.

Regardless of the relationship (or lack of one), this is not a very classy move.  While he does not need to be effusive in his kind words towards Franklin, but not to mention him at all, WOW!

Devin Gardner, who could have left earlier, would have never done anything like that and people will always remember what a classy young man he was while at Michigan.

He didn't say anything bad about him. What are you talking about?

Haven't you heard "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?"

He didn't have anything nice to say...so he didn't say anything. You want him to lie? Fuck that.

It wouldn't be classy if he badmouthed Franklin on the way out. But he just didn't say anything, how does that show poor class? He literally said nothing. I commend him for just moving on and thanking the people he wanted to thank.

There was nothing wrong with his statement.

...from someone he seemed to trust that Franklin is 100% about putting on a slick presentation when it comes to recruiting. Sam's source said PSU would struggle to get smart kids for this reason. Combine that with Franklin's use of hostesses at Vanderbilt and nonsense-speak at the Big Ten media convention, and I don't have a good impression of him.
